"Don't pay in advance"
I was very pleased with the hotel overall. The room was small but clean and neat with a comfortable bed. The television was the old box style but worked fine. The staff at the front desk were very friendly and helpful. The only complaint I had about the hotel was because I reserved and prepaid my room through an online travel agency. When I checked […] out, the front desk clerk verified that there was no balance due. However, a couple of days later a charge for the full room rate showed up on my debit card. After calling the hotel, I did receive a credit for the charge back to my account but it took several days for the refund to hit my account. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Tazewell Hotel review"
Nice old hotel, large rooms, decorated in an old style, but with modern beds/bedding & bathroomsGenuine Expedia guest review
"Needs another renovation stat"
Tazewell was in terrible shape. Our room was clean but crumbling--literally. The ancient AC unit in the wall had panels that kept falling off. It never worked properly during the whole visit, despite repeated visits by maintenance. All the furniture had a lot of wear & tear. The only decent part was the bathroom, which had nice granite features. Even […] the elevators & coffee machine in the lobby didn't work right. Stay away! Really have no idea how it got such good ratings on the web. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great place to stay in Downtown Norfolk"
The Hotel was very close to the Norva Theatre where we could walk to the show. I felt safe walking in the neighborhood. There were plenty of places to eat and shop.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great for the price & location"
This is an older hotel, so the rooms are a bit outdated, but you can't beat the price for the location. Right on Granby street within walking distance to downtown Norfolk's restaurant/bar scene. So, it was extremely convenient. Our toilet wasn't working, but the front desk sent a maintenance guy up right away who fixed it and brought us fresh towels. […] Overall, for $100 I was very pleased. "Lovely, older downtown hotel with convenientaccess"
Enjoyable as a stopover on our way south. Would stay here again if in the area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Stayed here overnight after a show at Chrysler Hall. I really enjoyed the charm of the hotel (and being able to walk to the venue). It is older and shows its age in some areas (small elevator, carpet stains, etc) but overall I was very pleased with my stay. The bed was super comfortable (one of the best hotel beds in my recent memory) and the hotel […] staff friendly and accommodating. We had a corner room with a big window and a decent view (remember the hotel is in the middle of the city). Parking could be an issue, however we arrived during the day and found a garage 1 1/2 blocks away - the process was mostly painless. There are many restaurants/ bars within walking distance and also a 7-11 for a late night beer/snack run, if desired. My boyfriend doesn't agree with my rating citing "the room was nice, but the lobby and hallways seemed old". Different strokes for different folks I guess - You either appreciate it for what it is, or you don't. If I ever visit downtown Norfolk again I will definitely stay at the Tazewell. "Charming historic hotel"
The Tazewell Hotel has that charm and character that give you a sense you are stepping back in time. The architectural details inside and out are impressive, even down to the elevator interior. The room was cozy and clean, and the staff were very friendly and helpful.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Tazewell Hotel is a charming older hotel but the current management is either bleeding it dry or lacks the resources to maintain adequate upkeep. Everything appears to be held together with a band aid.Genuine Expedia guest review
we have stayed at this hotel 2 times this year. very good location for what we come to Norfolk for. rooms are very clean and the beds are awesome!! feels like we are in a historical place.. very friendly employees. needs coffee in lounge though.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great service and great place to stay"
The service was terrific. The staff made you feel as if you were their friend.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good downtown hotel for the price."
The hotel room was nothing special: spacious, but slightly run down. Its location, though, right downtown, made it a great place to stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location for NORVA"
I was just here overnight for a concert at the NORVA and you cannot beat the location. Lots of food options within walking distance. Hotel is older and the walls in my bedroom were a little marked, but the hotel service was excellent. It was hot and humid but my room was cool and clean. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was large. I would definitely […] stay here again. The front desk even called me after I arrived to make sure everything in my room was good. "Close to things we wanted to see and do"
We really enjoyed our stay at the Tazewell Hotel. The staff were friendly and did not hestiate to make suggestions on local restaurants and other things to do. We will stay here again on our next trip to Norfolk.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel in a great location"
Large clean room and friendly staff at a reasonable rate. The hotel's excellent location in downtown Norfolk is also within walking distance to the cruise ship terminal. I will gladly stay there again.Genuine Expedia guest review
"moldy and nasty"
not what you may think...!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The location is perfect but the hotel is very old, not clean at all. The staff is not the most helpful. Our room was overlooking a huge construction which was noisy in the morning.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great location but needs updating"
Hotel is desperate need of new carpet and furniture. It has a worn appearance that makes it feel dirty. The ironing board was unusable because of stains on the cover and lack of cushion under it. It is in a fantastic location for touring the city.Genuine Expedia guest review
beautiful hotel, incredible room! the location was fantastic, everything is right there. the staff were super friendly. i will definitely go back there!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to college and mall!"
Very accommodating. Love the character of a historic hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel could use some needed maintenance. Two examples are: First, water from shower was barely warm, but hot from sink. Secondly, the curtains didn't come close to keeping out light..The rods were too short and the curtains were very worn and needed to be replaced. With the exception of those two major items, I would have been satisfied with my […] stay. The hotel is in a great location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent Value and Location"
I wish that there were more hotels like this available in America. Centrally located, comfortable, clean, and no frills. The building itself is older and the rooms do show some of their age, but in a way that does more to add character than detract from comfort. If you want a posh, modern, and sleek hotel in downtown Norfolk, you should look at one […] of the other options. If you want a nice hotel that is more than sufficient for a short stay and won't empty the wallet, you can't go wrong with the Tazewell. I'll certainly use it again if I find myself back in Norfolk. "Great price, clean rooms"
My stay at this hotel was extremely enjoyable and I would definitely stay there again . I originally booked a room with 2 double beds for myself and my mom, but when I checked in they gave us a king bed. Since the price was the same I didn't bother to switch rooms. I requested and received a fridge and microwave in the room at no extra charge. The building […] itself is old but our bathroom was recently renovated and quite large. My mother is extremely picky about hotels, especially bed cleanliness and was very impressed with the accomodations. We both agreed that the bed was easily one of the most comfortable hotel beds we had ever slept on. Guests had to pay $15/day for parking but that seemed reasonable given that we were in downtown Norfolk. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"You get what you pay for..."
Dirty linens, creaky elevator and loud bars outside should steer people away from this place. Wireless was free which was a plus though. I would not stay here again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Convenience location to get to the hospital"
The stay was overall pleasant. I especially like the location of the hotel, which is very close to the hospital where I had an interview the next day. If you are arriving on the weekend, there are plenty of street parking around hotel which are free on weekends. I love the historic look and feel of the hotel, and pleasantly surprised by how large the […] room was. If you have trouble sleeping with noise, the A/C and heater noise is fairly loud and turns on and off very frequently. Sadly no breakfast is offered, so do plan ahead for that. "nice downtown location"
Special rate ended up not so special. Thought ok so no breakfast we can go get that but then we either had to pay 15 a day for parking or park on the street if you can find a space. Lucky for us we were there on Saturday night and street parking was free on Sunday otherwise we would have to move the car or put money in meter by 6 am. Bathroom needed […] more lighting and a hook or two, no where to put anything down. Sink counter very small. Beds were comfortable, but room was cold and no way to adjust. Knobs taken of unit. "The time has come . . . ."
I'm afraid it's just plain tired out. Carpets are stained, the bathroom is worn out, the windows don't quite close, the heat is noisy . . . It's time for a big renovation at the Tazewell. The people at the front desk and the maintenance man were wonderful and helpful, and the location is excellent. But the hotel itself is getting pretty worn down. Norfolk […] would do well to help get it fixed, as the bones of this place are good. The potential is there to turn it into a gem. Please, bring it back to where it should be!! "Good hotel for a quick visit"
The hotel is in a wonderful location. There are many restaurants and shopping close by. I had the opportunity to visit the pub right next door and it offered a great ambiance! "It was okay except..."
A great location Walking distance to all the local restaurants and bars. The hotel was very old and took you back to the colonial days. But for the room it was a little dated for the price. The floors creaked when you walked over them and the curtains didn't fit the width of the window. And the heater made some noises throughout the night. "Convenient and Accommodating"
Room was spacious and clean with necessary and expected ammenities. The charm of this hotel, built in 1907, is in its updates rather than it's age. "An old building with difficult parking"
Parking is not very accessible--I got a parking ticket the first day. There was some question about the safety of the neighborhood at night, although I was assured it is very safe. Cute boutique hotel. Building originally built in 1906 has been restored including original elevators. Large room with down comforters and soft beds. Good location in downtown Norfolk. whats not to like?Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel but not worth the inconvenient parking"
Room was clean and comfortable. Staff was friendly and helpful. Couldn't find password for internet and phone in room didn't work so I had to get dressed to go down to front desk. Couldn't find anything in room with check out time. When I got my bill, it had someone else's credit card number on it. Parking was horrible. No parking in front of hotel […] to check in. Drove around block several times and finally pulled off to side of road and called the hotel to find out where to park. There is a small loading zone on side of building that is not well marked. Park there to check in and then they let you into a private parking garage - also not well marked so it took a while to figure out where to park and how to get back to street level. No accessible elevator to garage parking and the door to walk into the parking garage is locked too. You have to aske the front desk to let you back into the garage. "Great location and wonderful staff"
I'd recommend the Tazewell to anyone looking for a decent priced room with a great downtown location--close to good restaurants and shopping. The staff is very helpful and kind from the front desk to the maids. The […] hotel is old, needs some updating, but the beds are comfortable and the rooms clean-esp. the bathroom.
