I used the Marine Hotel as a base for golf in the area and its location is hard to beat. The view over Royal Troon's 18th and clubhouse is stunning and it is centrally located to get to courses like Prestwick, Western Gailes, Turnberry and some of the other great courses in the area. Breakfast was hearty (but paper napkins?) and the bar menu was fine […] for simple dinners. I'd recommend it strongly to any golfers headed to that area of Scotland. Checked in after a late night flight. Staff was extremely helpful getting us settled and a snack. Nice size room with a huge bathroom. Beautiful view overlooking the golf course and water.Wonderful breakfast buffet. Easy walk to the beach and town.

A wonderful place to stay, with personal service. Close to the Troon, Scotland to Larne, Ireland ferry landing. Top quality rooms, and the lounge serves drinks and generous tasty food.

Could only manage a one night stay but wish it had been longer. Great location facing the golf course and the beach. However the staff are the best asset of the hotel - professional, welcoming and friendly. The weather was great during the stay and that just enhanced the views and the whole experience. I'll be back!

Hotel is of a very high standard with pleasant and helpful staff. Breakfast is a must have and gets you off to a great start to the day. Only let down was the double room which was more like a single room with a double bed with no outlook unless you collect slates. As we were only there for one night it was adequate.

We had a lovely stay and our only grouse would be breakfast. The hot buffet never seemed to be fresh - eg fried eggs were like bullets (even when a new tray was brought in to replace an empty dish), and scrambled egg was always dry. The dinner was excellent both nights.

We were disappointed in our room – small, dark and nothing like the pictures online. The telephone did not work (they tried to fix this, but failed) the light in the hall outside the bathroom did not work (they did not try to fix this). The bed was comfy, the room clean but cold, fortunately we were able to turn up the heating. The waiting staff in […] the dining room and bar are all very young and seriously in need of training: reaching across in front of me to put bread down, pick up a dirty plate. Dirty water glass on our table and dirty glasses on the two tables on either side of us as well – guests had to ask for these to be replaced as the staff did not notice, or seem to care. They made a big mistake with our dinner bill and we had to wait for them to 'check the details of your booking' before it was corrected. My husband ordered our after dinner coffee at the bar, his order was completely forgotten – bar was very quiet at that time - it was impossible to catch the eye of the barstaff as he walked past with his head down. Breakfast service was very poor as well –tables left uncleared, staff just wandering about. We did not use the pool facilities, so I cannot comment on that. Reception staff (Heather & Andrew) were very helpful, but All in all we felt this hotel was not of 4 star standard, and definitely not value for money ‘luxury’ stay. Service not as I would expect for a 4 star hotel, room cramped and poor fixtures and fittings. Reception and health club service poor. Only saving grace was service at breakfast where staff were polite and friendly. Not worth money.

The room was certainly clean and adequate Whilst the reception staff were extremely pleasant, friendly and efficient, the same could not be said of the dining room staff. The service at breakfast was appalling. Despite at least 6 staff in the dining room the service was abysmal. There was no one in charge and whilst a couple of staff appeared to know […] what they were doing some staff had clearly never served tables before. There were no greetings or pleasantries from the staff. We were certainly not the only guests who waited for service (it was at least 20 mins before someone took our order - and even then we asked for tea and got coffee. When we pointed this out there was no apology but the tea appeared, (however we then had to ask for cups as ours were full of coffee). All in all the lack of service was extremely disappointing and far from acceptable. Read more

We were situated at the back of the hotel which I expected for a standard room, but it was very clean and well decorated.Staff were really nice and helpful, couldnt do enough for you. Saturday morning at breakfast was very busy we had to wait in the bar area until we were called through we waited about half an hour before being called through. We were […] seated in the dining room but it took half an hour to take our breakfast order. In the meantime we had cereal and fruit we weren't in any rush. We had full Scottish breakfast which was very nice. Rooms were cleaned and we were given fresh towels. They just forgot to replace the tea and coffee,but we just mentioned at reception and they couldnt be more helpful. Our toilet wouldnt flush, we mentioned to reception and it was sorted immediately. Breakfast on Sunday was totally different, it wasnt as busy and we were served immediately. It was very nice. The croisants were delicious. All in all our stay was very nice. As we have stayed at Barcelo previously we expected good standards and we were not disappointed. The Hotel was easy to find, convenient as an overnight stay for our onward trip to the Highlands.
