"close to metro stations"
For what we paid for our weeklong stay, there was no microwave or refrigerator that could be brought to our room. Microwave was in the snack area at the front desk, though we were offered to keep something in the fridge BEHIND the front desk...we declined. Hotel is older than I expected and had no elevator and we were on the 2nd floor. Was convenient […] to old town Alexandria and we did like the old time look of town. Was also close to metro rail by shuttle. (Breakfast was available but after 3 days we wanted a real breakfast, so we found a Dennys and an IHOP for the remainder of our stay.) Cold cereal, instant oatmeal, milk, yogurt, fruit, hard boiled eggs, juice were all good. Scrambled eggs were not good...I can only guess they were powdered. Sausage good. Waffles not so good...by the time it was done there was no soft middle, just 2 crispy sides. (Live in central Indiana and had to go to Elkhart for a weekend and stayed for 2 days in a Red Roof Inn. This place was also kind of old but there was a microwave and small fridge in the room. Fridge was not working very well but we still used it. We paid a little over half what we did at the Colony Inn.) Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The property is kinda run down. Not very clean. Unimpressive breakfast food.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Excellent hotel at a great price"
The hotel was extremely comfortable, the staff were friendly and helpful, the room was clean and elegantly decorated and the breakfast was first class. There were "real" bowls and silverware and plentiful food choices - both hot and cold. A shuttle provided access to the airport and Metro, and the location was an easy walk to Old Town Alexandria.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Right on edge of Old Town"
Loved the location, right on the GW Parkway on the north end of Old Town. The hotel is very old and there is no elevator so you have to lug your suitcases up the stairs if your room is on second floor. The room is outdated but clean. If you're looking for a reasonably priced room right in Old Town, this is a good place to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Suprisingly Very Bad Best Western Hotel Experience"
We stayed in the hotel assuming that it was a typical best western plus experience. However, the hotel was really in a bad condition, no microwave and fridges in the room, I have two little toddlers. Tried to use microwave at the checked-in counter, it was not cleaned for at least three months. Cleaning lady was not even available, and hotel do not […] have elevator, if you stayed at the upper floor with lots of belongings due to kids, it is not a good idea to stay. Hotel room was smelling and AC was not available, only fan was working, we hardly breathed all night. The toddlers beds were in bad conditions and they were all in broken conditions, very dirty, ugly spots on the bed. So we could not use the beds for the kids. It was a terrible experience for all the family. Never recommend to stay here. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel was clean and the room was convenient. We had a nice continental breakfast each morning. The shuttle service to Old Town Alexandria and the Metro into DC was extremely convenient.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Value for the location"
Nice little hide-away, easy access with very good rates. Easy walk to King Street (15-20 min). Beautiful area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Good Location"
We were quite happy with this hotel. While King Street was not walkable for us, it was an easy drive to the center of Old Town. The free parking, shuttle to the Metro, and good breakfast made this a very nice stay. Staff was helpful and rooms were large. Bathrooms could use some updating but overall a great stay. We would use this hotel again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Decent hotel,, good location"
I have stayed here three times in the last year and will probably stay here again. It's close to DCA and Old Town and the rooms are quiet. There is a supermarket a blovk away.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Threw key and no say hello"
Very supprised because just say "last name" and threw my room key. What I did wrong there? Room and cleaning was fare. But how they can threw key? Is it hotel?Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pleasant surprise in Alexandria"
My family and I were traveling to see a few baseball games in a few cities and needed to find affordable lodging in Washington DC. Due to the summer vacation season most DC hotels were booked and expensive so we booked the Best Western in Alexandria, VA. Home baked cookies met us on arrival at the front desk as well as a welcoming staff. Our room was […] neat, clean and comfortable. Most local hotels in DC only offer only double beds which was disappointing but we made due. The delicious breakfast was included in the price of the room and had many diet options. Coffee and lemon water were available in the lobby all day. The hotel shuttle to the Metro allowed us to park the car (free parking!) and travel into DC everyday. The shuttle driver Jeremiah was wonderful. We felt as if we had toured Alexandria as he was dropping off other guests on our way to the Metro station. The shuttle will also pick you up (during scheduled hours) if you call them. The housekeeping and dining staff were also friendly and helpful. The hotel is small so you see the same guests at breakfast and on the shuttles during your stay. King Street is within walking distance if you like to walk. The Food Giant is located one street away. The Tap Room (jumping at night) and the Haute Dog have good dining 2 blocks away. Murphy's Pub on King Street also has good food and pleasant service. We would stay here again now knowing that the area is quiet -away from the larger and busier hotels. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Economical stay in DC area"
The BW Old Colony Inn is an old hotel. We stayed three nights. Our double room was small. The beds were small (used to queen size). The room did not include a microwave or refrigerator. It did have thermostatically controlled central air which was a plus. They were having issues with the ac in some units but ours worked fine. The Old Colony is a two […] story hotel with no elevator service to second floor. The included breakfast was ample but is in the basement so it felt dark and confined. It was also very warm in there! The hotel is about 0.67 miles from King St which is the main, fun street of Old Alexandria. The drive (on the weekend) into DC is easy and fast. The nearest Metro stop is about half a mile away. A bonus that is not common to DC area hotels: parking is free! This hotel is just a few blocks from the running/walking/biking Potomac Trail. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We were disappointed! The first room had no working A/C, the second would not shut, there is no elevator. We were initially told that they were booked up, but when problems arose with our room, they mysteriously found us new ones. Not very handicap accessible. Ceiling was cracked and needed repair.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The room was 87 degrees, no ac. Only help from front desk was yes it was hot. Ask about near by hotels, he gave us a phone number to call one never offered to try to find us a room. The number he gave us was incorrect. Had to find another place on a Saturday night in Old Town VA - not easy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Okay place for the price."
Older hotel with air conditioner problems. The first night the air didn't work at all. After they "fixed" it, the temperature wouldn't go below 75 degrees regardless of what you have it set on. Rooms were clean and the staff was very friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"The price was affordable."
The room was small and the beds were small -- I would have preferred Queen beds instead of double beds. The breakfast was not the best -- the eggs did not taste very good and the bacon and sausage were very greasy.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Booked but never got to stay there... A pattern?!"
DOWNSIDE: I booked this hotel precisely because of its proximity to Reagan Airport, and because it has a complementary shuttle service. When I arrived at the Airport and called them for the shuttle pickup, they told me that the shuttle was done for the day, so I will have to take a taxi. I arrived at the hotel some 20 minutes later to be told that they […] overbooked the hotel, and I would have to go to another hotel. I told them that I had already spent my budget (that I NEVER budgeted!) on the cab. UPSIDE: The receptionist made a few phone calls, called me a cab, gave them the address of the other hotel they were handing me over, and gave me money for the cab. All in all, this was fair and courteous. The other hotel treated me right, so I have nothing bad to say about the chain or the staff, only about the crappiness of this particular hotel's logistics and overbooking. Good breakfast. Close to many DC and Alexandria attractions. Enjoyed shuttle to King Street.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It was fine. AC didn't work the first night, but we were moved across the hall with no hassle.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice hotel: reasonably clean, comfortable rooms, good staff, good breakfast and shuttle service is like clockwork.Genuine Expedia guest review
The location of the hotel is close to Washington DC and is in old town which has a lot to see. The staff was great helping solve problems. The air conditioner in my room didn't work and the hotel was booked full so the staff gave me a fan until the electrician could get there the next day. They did fix the a/c and it worked for the rest of our stay. […] The metro is not close to the hotel, but they have a shuttle that will take and pick you up from the metro station. Except it was broken down once so we had to take a taxi back to the hotel. The only 3 things that really disappointed me was that there was no elevator and I had my elderly parents with me. They had to walk up to the second floor for our rooms and down to the basement to eat breakfast, that was terrible. In addition, there breakfast was ok, but not much of a variety for hot food. The carpets were so dirty in the rooms that when I walked around in the room, my white socks turned black. Other than that, most of the staff was very friendly, the cost was great, it was in a good neighborhood so safe for the kids and it was inexpensive for a DC hotel. "Room a little run down"
The room was a little run down. Tried to make the room cooler, but was not able to . Set at 70degrees and would not adjust. Cobweb in the bathroom. There was 2 of us, but only 1 caffeniated coffee in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Get Away"
This was a good find. Close but not in DC. The only thing is they had no ice maker but they always had bags of packed ice in a large cooler. Where they could have had problems they excelled. Now is this area great, legendary old king street was 6 blocks away to give us another side we thought we wouldnt expect. Great stayGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Close to Old Towne, Alexandria - very convenient"
We wanted to stay close in without the high prices. This was a great option. We were close to Old Towne, our destination for the evening. But we were very close to downtown D.C. and walking at the monuments at night. Loved it.Genuine Expedia guest review

Very close to air port. Provided shuttle service to and from airport. Was told while making reservations that shuttle only provided transportation from airport to hotel and to metra. Later, found out depends on who you talk too.Genuine Expedia guest review
First - hard to find, on a small side street, the outside sign isnt even lit at night, cant even find entrance, no well lit signs, parking lot dismally dark. Second - check in and then "there's no elevator, good luck"... Go to stairway, its actually outside... one door closes behind me, the stairway door doesnt have a key entrance! The other door my […] key doesnt work. Locked out side in rain, have to carry bags all way around to front desk! The excuse.. "oh yeah, that door is broken, sorry about that.... use the other end of building!" So a long trek up stairs with bags at opposite end of building from my room. Then get in room, light switch doesnt work when you enter room, Get out cell phone just to hunt around within room for a light in the pitch dark... Then sit at desk. Chair is broken! wont raise or lower, sitting near ground... Overall carpet dingy and dark and dirty, furniture old, fixtures really old, hard to turn off water in sink. On checkout - "can I have a copy of my bill" answer = NO, its on expedia, get it there..." what a joke, never going near this place again!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Free breakfasts are often less than adequate; this was definitely one of the better ones. The only thing that would have made our brief stay better was a king bed - but the double was comfortable, at least.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"great location, great neighborhood"
Everything was great but when we checked in, the girl said they did not have a king bed room and I would get 2 double instead. She said guests had decided to stay over extra and they took priority. I was pleasant but indicated that was a problem. I said that was overbooking and she immediately said she is not allowed to use that word. She said she would […] give me someone else' room but she might be fired for it. It was very strange. But then, after that, the stay was great. Everyone was nice. Great, convenient location. Just a strange intro to the hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Second stay was dissapointing"
I stayed in this hotel prior to my most recent stay and it was great - convenient, nice neighborhood and clean. So I booked it again - I arrived at the hotel just before 8 pm and was told my room was not ready - already 5 hours past the normal check in time, I was annoyed, but tried to understand. I went out to eat and came back just after 9 - the room […] was still not ready. It was 9:30 before I got into my room. After spending most of the day traveling, I was exhausted, frustrated and extremely disappointed I had pre-paid this room. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Value, Not So Great Cleaner Customer Service"
The value of the hotel stay was fantastic. The rate includes breakfast and hotel amenities like a business center, small gym, continental breakfast (which was also fantastic), beverage center 24/7, and small mini-mart if you need a snack or drink on-the-go. Unfortunately, the room that we rented had hair when we got there and before we could explain […] ourselves with the cleaning staff, they were very defensive and somewhat hostile to our inquiry for additional cleaning. Besides that, our stay was very good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Really convenient in good neighborhood"
Old hotel but rooms refurbished with comfortable beds, older bathrooms and not that many amenities. Breakfast a low point, very basic. Great shuttle to take you to the metro, airport, close stops but stops at 9pm. Walking distance to a few restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
For the price I might have chosen a newer hotel closer to DC. The hotel shuttle service left lots to be desired. After sitting at the metro station for more than a half-hour waiting, we were admonished by the shuttle driver that we should have called only after we arrived rather than while on the metro enroute. Not compatible with info on the handout […] given at check-in. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
