"Cosy small hotel with a great location"
Small but nice hotel. we had the weirdest room i have ever seen in an hotel. It was a room located just beneath the roof and to get there you had to walk though what looked like a closet door (the main door to the room), then go 2 levels up on a small winding stair, pass the toilet on the 1 level and then your will arrive at cosy room with a view to […] the Rialto bridge and the main canal though Venice. The only thing letting the room down was the maintenance. It was worn down and some effort to restore it should be prioritized. the toilet had been refurbished not so long ago so that was fine. We came to this hotel for our honeymoon stay. The location was amazing with a nice balcony that could be used on the second floor. The hotel and the room was pretty old and interent had to be paid for per night.Genuine Expedia guest review

Great time, staff really friendly, room was cleaned daily had clean sheets and towels daily. Overall great experience and would deffo stay againGenuine Expedia guest review
"Venetian AND practical"
I booked the hotel only a week or so before I arrived in Venice, and I chose it because it was the most affordable of the various hotels that still had rooms available for the whole of the 4-day period of my trip. I was actually expecting the worst - noise from the crowded Rialto area, rickety stairs up to my room that would overlook some dingy alley, […] sagging beds and a very cursory breakfast. The Ovidius turned out to be the most pleasant surprise - very Venetian but also very practical. First, there was a lift up to the second floor. Second, because my room did overlook the alley rather than the Grand Canal, it was quiet and pleasant. Third, the bed was firm, the chandelier was very pretty, the room was clean and air-conditioned, the bathroom was tiled in lovely pink and cream marble and the shower worked well. Fourth, the breakfast selection was not large, but it was certainly more than adequate and there was a good view of the Grand Canal plus another very lovely chandelier. Fifth, the hotel staff were all very friendly and helpful. All in all, the hotel provided a definite Venetian character to my trip plus a good place to rest and relax. My only suggestion: wholemeal bread option for breakfast? Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very nice staff and great location. The hotel itself is very basic-some furniture-shelves-for example-are just broken and falling apart (they just "look" like shelves but do not try to put anything on them). Every room seems to have different problems- Internet not free and not reliable. Breakfast is basic. Great restaurants nearby-with a better wi-fi. […] Shortly speaking: very nice staff but a run-down hotel. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel excellent location on Grand canal by the Rialto bridge.Food very expensive in restaurants on grand canal much cheaper away from the rialto area. You can see most of Venice by walking but recommend getting a pass for the water bus.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel next to Rialto Bridge"
The hotel was pleasant, nice sized room with a big bed and bathroom. The breakfast hall was close by with a great view out the balcony of the Rialto Bridge and the heart of Venice. The staff were friendly and courteous.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel, fantastic location."
The hotel is in a fantastic location, 100m from the Rialto Bridge on the Grand Canal. No chance of getting lost as you are right opposite the Rialto Water Bus Stop! Hotel could do with a freshen up, however, the hotel is very clean. The hotel staff are very friendly and left a bottle of Prosecco in our room on my partner's birthday..which was the purpose […] of our trip..a really nice touch! Breakfast is basic but does the job. This hotel is situated perfectly for visiting all landmarks you'd wish to see on your visit. By a waterbus ticket for your duration of stay rather than buying on each trip as this will save you a lot of money. All all we had a fantastic time and will be back! "Nice hotel in great location"
We stayed at the hotel for 3 nights in April 2014 and had a pleasent stay. The staff were friendly and helpful and always had a smile. The facilities are clean but fairly basic overall. Breakfast was basic with toast and cereal offered, could do with more choice e.g fruit of hot foods. On the plus side the hotel is in a great location just by the Rialto […] bridge which can be reached in less than 2 minutes. San Marco square is a 5 minute walk and the hotel is best placed to be able to explore Venice from a great location. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Fantastic location on the Grand Canal, reasonable price, clean. Old building, no elevator, modest rooms, modest breakfast - but all this was expected in this price range for an old city like Venice. On the other hand, amazing sitting rooms with balconies overlooking the Grand Canal were a great advantage. One even had a piano, very cozy. We would return […] to this hotel without hesitation. "Comfortable hotel on the edge of the Grand Canal."
Very much enjoyed our stay. Hotel was comfortable and staff very helpful. I had chosen to pay slightly more for a room overlooking the canal, and then we were then upgraded to an even better room. Watching all the activity on the canal was an experience in itself and well worth the extra cost (even without the upgrade). Having read some other reviews […] I was prepared for breakfast to be meagre, but in fact it was fine, with a good range of cereals, yoghurts, meats and bread products. Only slightly odd thing was that our room had a spa bath but no plug, and when we asked if we could have a plug it was refused because "people keep flooding". As there was no shower curtain either this meant we had to crouch in the bath trying desperately hard not to soak the floor - but we chose to view it as indicative of the madness that is the basic premise of Venice. If you are expecting sleek modernity and all the amenities then Venice is probably not the place for you. But if you just give yourself over to the charm of the place it captivates and entrances. "Old-fashioned and small"
Hotel room was small, had to check key everytime i left, keys were in reach of anyone and no one was at desk. Be prepared to pay a 3 euro per night tax. I felt the bed was a little dirty so i slept in my clothes and a hoody. Carpet was nasty and wood was rotting. Was located in the heart of a dumpy area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We stayed 6 days at Locanda Ovidius and loved every minute. Rooms were nice and kept really clean breakfast lovely with a fantastic view over the Grand Canal. The location was perfect for walking and catching the water ferries. All the staff were friendly and helpful. "Good location but overpriced"
We stayed at the Locanda Ovidius in September 2013. The location was very central, but the condition of the hotel was a little disappointing. Half of our shower door was missing, bed was uncomfortable and pillow was flat. The staff were excellent though, so that made it all worthwhile.Genuine Expedia guest review
"My visit to Venice"
The Hotel room was a little awkward. Our room was in a former attic, the only access was via a spiral staircase. The restroom was located at the mid level of the room and was accessed via the spiral staircase. That made things a little inconvieniant especially after a couple of glasses of wine. The other thing that was a little bit of a pain the sleeping […] area was split level meaning the floor under the head of the bed was about 8 inches lower than the foot of the bed. They made up the difference by shortening the legs of the bed at one end to level the bed. The only problem was the floor was all done in laminate of the same color. Making the 8 inch drop invisible to the eye, almost broke our neck in a couple of occasions . Given the cost of rooms in Venice the hotel was not a bad value. Would not stay there again if the same room was issued to me (301). Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Quaint hotel close to the canel"
Pretty easy to find/checkin. Breakfast was adequate and welcome. On the day we checked out they made sure we had something prepped even though it was outside the normal hours (had to check out at 6 am). WiFi is an extra fee if you book through an agency, but the biggest problem is it doesn't reach the rooms, so you only have access in the foyer or in […] the dining area. "Dont accept room 209 !!"
We felt this room would have been ok as a single room. It was sadly lacking in wardrobe space, the only small wardrobe had the bottom 1/3rd taken up with a mini bar fridge , and it had a safe box taking up part of the top 2/3rds. The result was having to live out of our suitcase for 6 days. We were not expecting a window view of the Rialto bridge, however […] a wall about 2 feet away was a bit of a shock !! This room was the only one on that side of the corridor , and it felt it was an after thought for a room purely to maximise profit. The shower leaked between hose and hand set resulting in reduced pressure at rose, also hand set holder could not be adjusted effectively as it would not tighten up ! We upgraded to a room with a view when we arrived. Definitely worth the money. The hotel is situated off the Canal near Rialto. The view was amazing at all times of the day. The furnishings were a little outdated but a very comfortable room. Great staff! Made us feel very welcome.Genuine Expedia guest review
"An ideal romantic getaway"
This hotel wont be for everyone, but for us it was amazing. The first thing to say is that the staff were amazing. Truly wonderful people who seemed happy to see us and always wanted to help. Breakfast was excellent, a choice of different things for all tastes. The location was outstanding, we had a superb Grand Canal view and just a short stroll to […] some lovely bars and restaurants that were great value. On a slight downside, the air con didn't work and the shower head kept falling off the wall and spaying the room, but these are small issues when put against all the great things. "OK place as it is steps from Rialto Bridge"
Room was very small, but then again what is not in Venice. My wife and I enjoyed the location of the hotel....steps from Rialto Bridge and on the grand canal, and all we did was just come in after a long day of shopping and site seeing to sleep.Genuine Expedia guest review
The room was small even compared to European standards. We requested and payed for an upgraded room overlooking the canal. The room we received was at the end of a hallway furthest from the canal. I did voice my concerns over this but English became a hard language for them to understand. The bathroom was small, the shower door did not work until "I" […] fixed it. The location was the only saving grace as it was meters away from the Realto bridge and great shops and restaurants. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"But what a view!"
Room interior probably looked the same in 1700 and may have been the same fabric on the walls. Looked moldy in spots but may have just been really old. No smell otherwise. Bathroom was more updated. Wifi is extra and only works in the breakfast area - disappointing. Our room had a lovely view of the wall next door BUT the breakfast area had a spectacular […] view of the Grand Canal out on the itty-bitty balcony. Breakfast was typical european fair but staff not the most friendly. Coffee and tea premade at some ungodly hour so that it was cold at 730. Not inexpensive but with the great location with water taxis, food and shops worth the price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice tucked away hotel near Rialto bridge"
The hotel's condition was a little bit worse than I was expecting for the ratings I had seen and the price of the hotel. But everything is more expensive in Venice, and more expensive to keep up, so I can't say it was terribly surprising. The location was great, just down the canal from the Rialto bridge. Very close to the Rialto market. The wi-fi was […] a pretty big rip-off. We had to pay 5 Euro for a wi-fi password that only worked in the common areas. So we paid 5 Euro to use wi-fi when there is a computer available anyway. The wi-fi showed up on devices in our room, but the connection was so slow I just used my 3G on my phone. "Reasonable place to stay in very central location"
Stayed there for 12 nights. Close to everything - 10 min walk to St Mark's square, 15 min to Pl Roma, waterbus stop across canal. very good location to explore Venice. We were initially disappointed that our room did not have a view of the canal, but that turned out to be good thing since the Canal Grande is noisy from the early morning to late night. Breakfast […] includes cofee, tea, milk, juices, toast bread, ham and salami, cake, cereal, variety of jams and is the same every day. If you need variety, something freshly cooked (i.e. eggs) or fruits and vegetables, you need to go outside of find a hotel with full kitchen. If you are not picky, there is enough food to fill you up until lunch. Just about the only complain we have is lack of WiFi signal in the room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Great for a weekend in Vinice!"
Fantastic location and excellent staff, who were incredibly helpful and very pleasent. Decor was in keeping with the whole Venice experience - shabby [but not too shabby] chic. This is a well kept and characterful hotel. If you prefer modern, spacious, glittering hotels, with restaurant and bars, this is not for you (though bars and plenty of trattoria are just round the corner). The location of this hotel was very conveniently located almost next to the Rialto Bridge where it was very easy to access vaporetto's (water bus), water taxis, gondolas, restaurants, and shopping. The room (triple) was quite tight with a cot squeezed in for my son but we didn't spend much time in the room anyway. Although the room had no view, the […] hotel did have a nice little balcony overlooking the Grand Canal and the Rialto where we could relax with a glass of wine and watch the world go by at night. The only thing that was a little awkward was that we were required to return the room key (no scan cards) to the front desk everytime we left the hotel and pick it up when we returned. There was always someone very nice at the front desk 24/7 so it became a non-issue. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Superb Venetian-style Decorations & Great Location"
Pros: - Great cleaning bedroom with Superb Venetian-style decoration - Room is equiped with Minibar & Small fridge, Venetian-style cupboard with cloth hangers & safe box - Big cleaning bathroom / toilet with Bidet (please google if you don't know what it is) - Jacuzzi bathtub and hair-dryer inside your bathroom. - Fantastic Location: very close to […] the Rialto Bridge (but not noisy), which is in the middle of Venezia, many choices of restaurants. - Breakfast: A proper Continental Breakfast with choices of cereal and yogurt, with salami and ham - Services are friendly and faithfully wonderful; no additional hidden charge (except the City Tax that you are supposed to pay) - You are allowed to leave luggage there; though, you've already checked out. Cons: - Breakfast: Continental Breakfast, so NO Salad and Hot food. - No shower curtain for the bathtub (leading to flooding floor when showering) - For our room, which is not on the Grand Canal side, windows are not supposed to be opened; however, the Air-conditioning unit in the room is very useful. - Our TV / remote control do not work properly; though, we did not ask for help because we're in Venice, which is not the time for watching TV. Fantastic location and a true Ventian hotel, steeped in history. Our room was spacious and immaculately clean with good quality snow white linen. "Great Location but thats all. Should be 1 star."
The Hotel is in a fantastic location. Thats where the positives end though. Considering the price it would be one of the worst hotels I`ve seen. "locanda oviduis-good location"
The hotel is just ok really, the location is the main plus point. Its nice that its a small more independent hotel not a chain, but i really felt that for the price, it should offer more all round. The room was fine! Although supposed to be a double superior so i wouldnt like to see a normal double. The buffet was a bit poor, but you are near a lot […] of cafes and bars, not on the water front, but some great ones around near the fish market. Its tricky as i expect that all hotels in venice are overpriced, and due to the nature of my work i am lucky enough to stay in alot of hotels in different couontries, which is why i expected more i think. Ultimately although there was nothing fundamentally wrong and the location is great, i wouldnt stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
