"Convenient location but zero charm."
If you're looking for a cheaper stay in downtown, this is your place. That said, everything looks old and outdated. The moldings on the doors are chewed up and coming off, the fixtures are tarnished and unclean. The balcony sliding glass door in my room was foggy and when I tried to open it, it took considerable effort (and I'm a big guy). The workstation […] was thrown together, it's as if they were told put a desk, chair, lamp, and painting in the room and the person who put them in there dumped the items into the corner. The hotel was clean, the people were nice and always willing to help. The laundry room was clean and well maintained. The pool was clean and safe to have kids around. The in-house gym was great, clean and up to date.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Convenient if you stay at downtown area"
we booked hotel in quite short time so most of hotels are expensive but Red lion has a reasonable price at the time and rating is not bad. I saw some people complained that they were assigned a room to the elevator and it is quite noisy, and unfortunately I got the same room. I talked to staff at front desk and they changed the room for the next day. […] All I can say is if you get a right room, then it will be nothing else I can complain. "Bed was horrible"
Every morning it took a hour for my husbands back and mi e to recover. The beds were horrible! Also I left all my makeup and hair supplies on the vanity. While there the vent leaked and got all my stuff soaking wet!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
They did not clean room well. Trash from garbage can was on floor after servicing room.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The area in which the hotel is in attracts a lot of pan handlers. Once we got there cop cars were there asking people to leave and this seem to go on throughout our stay. See enough of this in LA and don't want to see on vacation.Genuine Expedia guest review
"okay, not great."
We could hear the wind whirring outside out floor to ceiling window, (window was nice other than that). The maid took out our used towels and did not replace them. Had to call house keeping. Fridge didn't work in room.Genuine Expedia guest review
"soso hotel in the downtown area"
Staff is friendly. however the facilities are sort of old.Genuine Expedia guest review

We are also partial to our building, and we try to give it the TLC it deserves. The good news is we will be updating the property to make it even more welcoming and give it a fresh look. We certainly hope you will enjoy the improvements on your next visit. Again, we greatly appreciate your kind words. Have a wonderful day!
"Great views from a non functioning room."
The tub did not hold water, the sink didn't drain. The balcony door wouldn't open, the ac wouldn't cool the room. The maintenance person was terribly overworked, and had no patience.Genuine Expedia guest review
Loved the room! Was very clean, and had a great view!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I am not a complainer by nature but I do believe in quality service when paying a lot per night in a hotel and unfortunately my first experience to downtown Salt Lake City was not at all satisfying. I moved and arrived late to Salt Lake City on Wednesday night. I parked my U-Haul in the hotel parking lot and was immediately approached by some homeless […] men for money. The receptionist was semi adequate and the hotel "offers" water in the lobby that was empty. Once I checked-in, I went back outside to get my luggage and a homeless man was LITERALLY vomiting on my U-Haul. Hotel security should have been more attentive to unwelcomed guest bothering their customers. Once I was in my room, it was hot, the closet door was broken, and the floor's ice machine was not working. In the morning, I called to ask the receptionist if they had complimentary breakfast. She said yes and that it was in the lobby. Wrong. It was a buffet for $8 a person. I immediately left and walked (saw someone being arrested right outside the hotel) to the coffee shop next door. "Nice hotel near Temple Square"
Stayed one night and felt very relaxed and safe. Staff was excellent.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice, clean hotel"
Hotel could use some updating but is very clean and staff was wonderful.Genuine Expedia guest review
Our room (bed, chair, TV, bathroom, and such) were all very comfortable. The bed for sure. We came to Salt Lake City a few days before our Spartan Run to acclimate to the elevation and the hotel definitely helped with that. I also liked that it was close enough to the downtown area that we could walk. Also very close to public transportation. We had […] a rental car, but we didn't use it much. "Great location, great staff"
Great location for viewing the sites in downtown SLC. The staff was helpful, courteous and professional. After coming from the mountains and "quaint" accomodations, the Red Lion was like an oasis.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Pleasant hotel, just off the Traxx line."
Airport transportation was easy and prompt, only about a ten minute ride from SLC. The hotel is welcoming with a large pleasant lobby, sitting areas and a cafe'. The quasi-concierge/transportation position was always filled and the staff was friendly and prompt. The elevators were easily accessed and actually have room for more than three people! Room […] access was easy (the key worked first time) and upon entry everything seemed in order. After a couple days of use I have nothing negative to report other than as usual in most hotels the A/C unit struggled mid-day during 97* temperatures, but the room stayed 'comfortable' regardless. The sliding door onto the patio was almost impossible to open without a mano a mano struggle... Otherwise having to hold the toilet handle down through the entire flush cycle was the only other flaw I noticed. Yes, a first world problem, but it was annoying. To compensate, the shower was excellent. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
A nice older vintage hotel in which the rooms can vary from a bit shaggy to fair condition. Although the place is a bit shopworn it has good energy loads of foreign tourists and airline workers who are preternaturally friendly. Good beds and not so good TVs.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Very clean, in good repair with a comfortable bedGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Avoid the Restaurant "Reds""
There is a smell in the hallways and the on-site restaurant "Reds" is disgusting. I had a few bites of the chicken pot pie and my stomach wasn't right for almost a week.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Clean and friendly"
Overall I was happy with my stay at Red Lion. The hotel is dog friendly and the staff was helpful when asked for info. We had to get the maintenance person to take the bolt off the sliding patio door so we could open it for some fresh air. I was surprised that it wasn't functioning properly when we first checked in. Also the outside of the windows really […] could use a good cleaning, could hardly see the view with all the years of grime accumulated. Also I think that the front desk staff could have offered us a better room for our stay since we did have my dog. We got our room right next to the elevators and the ice machine so that my dog was constantly growling and barking at noises out the door. Pet friendly should mean a quieter room so that me and my dog wouldn't be interrupted constantly with people going by. Should have put us at the end of the hallway or something, I know I'll ask for that next time. The food was good at the café and the lobby and grounds were clean and well kept. Had a good time on vacation and hope to visit again in the future. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Low Cost, Just an OK hotel"
For one night, stay was the adequate and was one of the lowest costs in downtown SLC. Had trouble with the internet office computer to printout plane passes. Slower that 1980's dial-up and then it froze. Office knew of the issue and let you use their private computer. Only had 1 business office computer. Breakfast was very nice in a diner style restaurant. […] Is close to several nice dinner and brewpub restaurants for nightly dining. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Overall good hotel"
Good hotel in good location. Older and could use a little maintenance in some areas but overall good condition.Genuine Expedia guest review
good experience. but nit that new. anyway, recommend itGenuine Expedia guest review
Good: The diner was pretty good. Bad: But no breakfast was provided for a quick get up and go. Parkinglot is DARK @ night, with a lot of bums looking for handouts, the dark lot could make for some shady business @ night. I thought the balcony windows were broken, but they have been intentionally locked down. Plumbing is getting old or needs maintenance. […] Check-in was very slow... Computer system needed help too. Although the Staff was helpful and the rooms were fair, I wouldn't choose this hotel again, it certainly wasn't worth the price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Nice hotel in downtown Salt Lake City"
I needed a hotel close to the convention center in Salt Lake City. The website said it was 4 blocks from the convention center and in reality it was more like 7 blocks to the FRONT of the convention center. The blocks are VERY long blocks and it was not realistic to walk. Hotel staff informed us that they provide a shuttle and that there is also train […] that is free to ride. We were able to board the train about a block and a half away from the hotel and ride most of the distance. The room was comfortable and clean, the beds were comfortable. The only thing I didn't like about the room was that they are in the process of sealing off the sliding glass doors that open onto the balcony in an effort to be more energy efficient. Our door was not sealed and we were able to open it and enjoy some fresh air, but next time we go to Salt Lake their doors will be sealed closed. Also, there were not very many electrical outlets in the room which made using laptop computers and charging cell phones difficult. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Would have been good if i could see the mountains"

Response by Red Lion Hotel Salt Lake Downtown :We at the Red Lion Salt Lake Downtown appreciate you for taking the time to comment on your recent visit with us. We hope your stay was comfortable and your visit to Salt Lake was enjoyable. We take exceptional pride in the beauty that surrounds our hotel, whether it’s the view of the Wasatch or Oquirrh mountains or downtown, but we certainly can understand your disappointment in being assigned a room that faced one direction when you preferred another. We certainly hope your next visit will be different, and we will be able to provide the view you hoped for. Have a wonderful day, and we hope to see you again soon.

"Small things make big differences"
I set the temp of my room to 74 degrees the first night I was there. The next day my room was still at a cool 61 degrees. So I turned the temp up to 80 degrees, sad to say my room never once got passed 67 degrees. Not a big deal but nevertheless small details make big differences, and many small details seem to go overlooked at this hotel.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice, mid-range hotel."
There was a glitch when we checked in because our room was never cleaned. When we checked out, they had no record of us checking in which explained why housekeeping didn't stop by. They were very embarrassed when we told them each evening that the room had not been cleaned; it would have been nice if we had been compted a breakfast or had a credit of […] some kind. "Friendly staff, clean room"
Great place to stay, price was fantastic. The room was no-frills, but very clean. The staff was extremely pleasant and helpful. The parking lot was a little sketchy at night. Could use better lighting. But that seemed the only drawback.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Worn and dog eared"

"good price for downtown"
Rooms were clean. Nice location. A few pet peeves..... The staff were not very accommodating with requests. We ended up needing maintenance on our room as the closest broke... No conditioner in the bathroom. Housekeeping skipped our room one day. Pool was closed. But i liked the location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Clean and affordable"

"A few flaws, but good considering price."
Halls were not well lit around the elevators. There were scratch marks around the elevator openings, service carts caused. The bed & mattress were great. The room with a king size bed was large with a sliding glass door next to a 6 inch deep balcony opening on a good view of some of the city and Wasatch Mountains with snow cover. Temperature control […] worked well when we wanted to change the temperature. The diner connected to the hotel served us a good lunch. The room was clean and well stocked with towels, shampoo, etc. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"good for the price"
For the price it was pretty good. Big TV, comfortable beds. The bathroom lock was broken and 1 of our rooms had an issue w/ their toilet overflowing, but aside from that it was good. Not the nicest hotel I've stayed in, but far from the worst.Genuine Expedia guest review
"easy to get to."
Usually get a great deal. Rooms are big, but need to be updated. Very easy to get to and avoid city center traffic although its downtown. The restaurant and bar closes too early. And all rooms are non-smoking which I don't mind. But you used to be able to use the balcony but now those are closed off.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"You get what you pay for"
Although the Red Lion is an all non-smoking hotel, every entry way had a group of smokers that you have to go through to enter the hotel. The smoke carries up to your room and makes it uncomfortable to go in and out and walk your dog (since we were traveling with one).Genuine Hotels.com guest review
