Hotel Stratford, a C-Two Hotel

There was not hot water one morning - none what so ever, only very cold water. The rooms are very small but clean. Good location but my least favorite hotel in the Union Square area.

I knew how small the room would be prior to my stay. I'm a small person, and it was even hard for me to get around the room once I put my large suitcase. I had to place my luggage right by the heater as it was the only place that I could. My room did not have a bath tub, shower only. The shower does not have enough water pressure. On the second day, […] I got no hot water as there was a problem with the boiler. I had to take a cold shower... The hotel is in a great location, right by the union square. It was a little noisy as some street performers were playing music late at night. WiFi was good. The complimentary continental breakfast was not worth mentioning. They didn't even have bagels. Staff were nice, but I did not like the fact that some housekeeping lady started cleaning the elevator walls with strong fume chemicals when people were inside the elevator. Read more

Booked hotel mostly based on location and was not disappointed with area. I was in walking distance to the Moscone Center and other areas for a convention as well as shopping and restaurants. If you will be out most of the day and just need a bed to sleep in, then this is the hotel for you. However, if you want amenities, then don't book hotel. I do a lot of quick trips into the Bay Area for work, but try to avoid ultra-early flights, as I like using BART. No worries, the desk easily and quickly set up an early a.m. shuttle van to SFO, at a very surprisingly low rate, and a 25 minute trip, made everything easy and stressfree. Good location, with easy and varied eats surrounding the hotel.

We stayed in room 301. Clean, Clean, Clean! This room has two beds in one room and one bed in another room that also has a small sink. There is one bathroom in the middle. Very nice size closets in both rooms. You can enter each room from their own door and close the door inbetween for privacy if you want. The free breakfast is nice. If you are looking for somewhere that is cheap/budget friendly and clean and relatively safe near Union Square this is probably your best bet. An important thing to note is there is basically no where to park and no valet service so park in one of the city parking garages (around $36/day) if you are coming into the city with a car and keep in mind that […] you have to carry your luggage to the hotel and back. We had read on blogs about this hotel being "OK but small rooms". Well, after travelling on the train for 2 weeks, we found the hotel to be small but MOST welcoming, friendly, and plenty of room for us and our 11 pieces of luggage! The staff were beyond helpful--they saved us hours of travel and a LOT of money on a cab to San Jose for the Amtrak station […] by the simple means of letting us know that we didn't have to go all the way to San Jose--that the Jack London Station was MUCH closer--and that there was a shuttle from the Ferry Building! Made a couple of calls to Amtrak, where the people were MOST helpful, and cheerfully changed our reservations from San Jose to Jack London, and put us on the shuttle--"No problem, Maam, just part of the service!" Wow! The staff of the hotel then got us tickets for the Hop on-Hop off Bus Tour, and gave us maps and tips. We LOVED staying there, and if we ever go back to SF will ONLY stay there! It was comfortable and clean, but the staff is the true wealth of this hotel! And it is only half a block--just around the corner--from Union Square. GREAT HOTEL!!! Read more

Continuity would be nice. The first night we had a nice room overlooking Oferrell with two beds and a nice bath. When we came back later in the week we were relegated to a room the size of a walk-in closet with sink in room. If you have stayed in San Francisco and near Union Square you already know that most hotel rooms are SOOO old & musty. Rooms are tiny as well. When I arrived to check in it was a little early so I requested directions to Pearl's Hamburgers for a bite of lunch. The Front Desk staff gave me the wrong direction and I ended up on Turk St...not the safest […] place for a single female hauling around luggage. Like every major city there are going to be fringe areas...this was definitely it! I was cat called for two blocks and had to walk down a street with junkies when it was almost dusk.
