Flagship stores ring Union Square, among the vanguard of West Coast retail. Chinatown begins at Grant Avenue and Bush Street, while Gold Rush-era mansions crown Nob Hill. South of Union Square, the convention center area includes the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. Cable cars turn around at Powell and Market streets to head back to Fisherman’s Wharf.

Our recent stay at the Wyndham was a great experience with one caveat, which subtracted a star from the four star expereince. Positives: - extremely helpful front desk staff and valets; always ready to help with a taxi or directions - very large and well appointed rooms; clean, well stocked kitchen - solid location -- close enough to all, but not right […] in the middle of "the zone" - Nice recreation facility, computer access, etc. For a longer term business stay this place is great. (One) Negative - This could be seen as a mild annoyance or a real issue depending on your temperment. The sales staff for the time share that is housed here is extremely aggressive. I had read about it in other reviews and avoided every "freebie" they offered, yet still they called my room EVERY DAY to try to get me to a sales meeting -- even waking up my toddler child by calling at 9PM one evening. They label them as "concierges" but they really are just sales reps. They will try to ply you with discuont coupons for marignal tourist trap restaurants (real conciereges send you to the best places, not where they get kickbacks) and then expect you to listen to a sales pitch in return. Tip: after you check in just head directly to your room. Do not have the desk staff walk you to the concierge for "tourist info". Bring your own map. The hotel only has one set of elevators and it is a straight shot to your room. You will thank me. Read more

"This is a timeshare"
I didn't understand that when I booked this on hotels.com that this was a timeshare. The service was great, the hotel was lovely but before I left I was given a high pressure "presentation" about buying in on the timeshare. Now, I did agree to this "presentation" under the pretence that it would only be one hour and in return I would get my parking […] comped and a gift certificate. Instead I was tag teamed by two representatives and kept there for three hours. It was not fun. Also, there was HUGE confusion while I was checking in about my reservation because it was not under my name. Very stressful. Read more
"Awesome place to stay in SF!"
I stay in hotels about 3-4 nights per month -- mostly business but also a few trips a year with family (3 teenage kids). We stayed at this hotel the first week in August for a few days for a combined business/vacation trip. The hotel is beautiful, new, clean, modern, the staff wonderfully helpful, concierge will tell you everything you need to know […] about what to do in SF and getting around SF. It was wonderful having a suite, especially traveling with kids, and the price was definitely right. Very roomy, and I loved the decor of the common areas and the rooms. One night my husband and I went and sat in one of the common areas (kind of a large living room with a tv) and watched a movie. No one else was there, the hotel does not feel crowded at all, although I'm sure it was close to full. I just can't say enough good about this place. They do try to get you to sit through a breakfast presentation for Wyndham time share, but we politely declined, and they did not push it further. The location is pretty convenient -- about a 10 minute walk to Union Square, if that. It is a few blocks from the Tenderloin (which we walked through a couple times, probably not a great idea), but the location of the hotel itself felt safe and was away from the crowds and tourists at Union Square. No question but that I will stay here again next time I'm in SF, especially with family. Read more
Did not appreciate at the time of check in staff insist we need to see resort person and schedule the time for presentation. We had a long flight, we had our grandkids with us and we were tired.
"Convenient to major attractions"
The hotel is in excellent condition and close to major attractions. In fact, it is only two blocks from the primary cable car lines. If you jump on the cable cars (e.g., Hyde-Powell) you can easily get to Fisherman's Wharf, the financial district, Golden Gate Park, or practically anywhere else in the downtown area. If the cable cars don't get you all […] of the way to your destination, the local buses will get you the rest of the way. Tranfers are pretty easy, but get the day pass to avoid the added expense. The decor is both contemporary and classy. Expect a beautiful room with a small kitchenette, but do not mistake it for a resort property. The rooms are efficiently designed and well-appointed, and there are some amenities on-site, but don't look for a large pool or much else on-site for amusement purposes. Read more
"Great location and amenities, but no housekeeping."
This hotel has a great location and the suites are very clean and nice. But I was surprised after my second day of stay when I found out the have no cleaning service for our room because we were only staying for 3 nights. Since is a time share Vacational Resort, they only have housekeeping service for stays of 7 days or longer. I requested to have someone […] to clean our room but it had an extra charge. I was so dissapointed. I booked my hotel by Hotels.com and there was no notification about this issue. Neither I was told at my time of check in at Hotel. Overall the hotel is great but i think guests should be notified about this important issue so we can plan ahead. Another point i want to mention for future guests is to let them know about the Welcome Breakfast the concierge will invite to the new guests: we were offered a free breakfast and a $100 gift cerificate i we attented to a breakfast reunion to fill out a survey about the hotel services and staff. Only to find ourselves in a time share buying propossal reunion, there was no breakfast at all, only bread and coffee and one sales agent waiting for us for a 1 and a half with a credit authorization form and a Wyndham Vacations Resort brochure ready to sell us a property. I told him right away i was noy interested on this. I believe this was a trick to get people to buy properties. We were on holiday so we decided to skip this "Free Breakfast" and our $100 gift certificate in order tp save 90 minutes of our day. I can only complain about these two issues. Everything else was amazing and the concierge staff was very nice. Read more
"Canterbury is great, friendly, warm and comforting."
We stayed at the Canterbury while having some tests and then surgery at Mt. Zion. I wanted a warm comforting place for my mom to rest. Canterbury was great. Kept car in valet parking and used the UCSF shuttle and a taxi. There is a great grocery store on the block behind the hotel, provided us with all we needed, even a great selection of Wine to choose […] from. Read more
I was very happy with my stay here. It was great to hve a small kitchen in the room. The room was really nice and the staff was very friendly. I would stay here again!
"Would definately recommend"
The hotel staff was very friendly. The room was beautiful and clean. The location was good. A short walk away from union square and lots of shopping. I would definately go back to the Wyndham!
