The Sofitle is a quiet modern hotel tucked between 44th and 45 th streets within 100 yards of 5th Avenue shopping. It has good access to Times Square and local restaurants and is close to main attractions in mid-town. The rooms are mid-size, modern and spacious. It is one of the few hotels in New York with decent size baths as opposed to the ubiquitous US-style shower tubs. The bar is good but the restaurant is of a standard hotel type rather than being an independent destination though it is a favourite for business breakfats.

We have just celebrated my wifes 50th birthday in New York and guided by these sort of reviews we picked an absolute peach of a hotel. Between 5th Avenue and Broadway the locationof the hotel is excellent, central and believe it or not quiet despite all that is going on around. We received a complementary upgrade to the 26th floor with a superb view of the Chrysler Building and other landmarks. We also received a New York Cheescake in our room wishing my wife a happy birthday. It's these sorts of touches that make a holiday memorable and Sofitel got this absolutely right. The room was comfortable and cleaned daily - we couldn't find fault with it. All the staff we came into contact with desk staff, concierge, door staff and room staff were polite and helpful at all times.

First of all, I have to say I chose this hotel based upon the reviews of others on Hotels.com so I figured I should contribute a review myself of my two day stay. Overall, have to say we were very pleased with our choice and I'd definately stay at Sofitel again. Hotel staff were friendly, hotel location was within walking distance of everything and the location was in a tad bit quieter section which is something that was definately welcomed after fighting crowds all day and night. Room was clean...nice flatscreen TV in the room...but honestly, we didn't spend too much time in the room beyond sleeping. And I have to agree with other reviewers....these beds are some of the most comfortable hotel beds I've ever slept in. Overall, I think the reviews in general on hotels.com are pretty representative of what Sofitel offers. Was perfectly happy with our choice.

The hotel itself is extremely nice and the staff/service are excellent. The room was very nice, also. The bed felt like a cloud and I slept like a baby. The bathroom is huge and separate shower is a major bonus. My relatively minor gripes are twofold. One, I was in a room situated close to the elevators and I could hear them as I nodded off to sleep. I suppose I could understand why, given the very low rate I paid and the fact that it was my first stay there. But, it is a gripe, nonetheless. Second, the workspace is tight. There was hardly enough room to have my laptop, mouse, and some papers spread out without pushing right up next to the TV. Speaking of which, the TV is literally within 2' of you when you sit down to work. I wonder if there was any other setup possible.

I stayed initially in the queen "oh so attractive" room. Dont' do it. For a few dollars more, you can buy yourself a king size bed and therefore 50 or 70 more square feet, so you can actually breathe, and then take in the beauty of the surroundings and excitement of the neighborhood. I did complain and I was granted an upgrade. This is generous but also should be expected, in my book. Overall the hotel feels spacious for NYC and although the restaurant is pricey, the art is worthy, a Folon sculpture in the lobby, and the people, well, some employees are respectful and some are not all that attentive or friendly. Still, a find for Manhattan. Would recommend it.

I am really satisfied with this hotel. Fantastic location, clean and very nicely trained staff. Price is understandable for 4 star and New York, I guess. A little bit of renovation needs to be made.Minor! I will absoultely stay sofitel chain hotel anywhere.

My wife and I enjoyed the hotel, where it was located and although the room was a little small it and the bed were extremely comfortable. It appeared to be in a very safe area with shopping all around you. Cab fares anywhere in the city never exceeded $15. We will stay there again when visiting New York!
