"Nice room, convenient location"
Very cold in the room at night. We called down to ask about how to turn up the heat and were told to turn the knob on the radiator, which we of course had already done (and tried again), but it remained very cold all night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"2 major problems here"
The mattress in my room was the hardest I've ever encountered. There was no bed spread, just 2 sheets and a thin blanket. Something is going on at this hotel, I can't believe that this bed is what they normally offer their guests. The other serious problem is the shower. You can't control the temperature! The water went from ice cold to scalding hot […] in a second. I've never had this problem before. The room is small but sufficient for 1 person, and it's clean. As convenient as it was, I won't stay here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Surprisingly good option"
All of the major hotel chains were full when I decided to book here. The reviews and the relatively low cost of the hotel made me nervous. However, I had a surprisingly pleasant stay here. The rooms were typical New York sized hotel rooms, but the bathroom was clean and updated. The hotel staff was extremely helpful and nice. Also, free wifi was available […] in my room and throughout the hotel. The location was the best thing about this hotel. I could not have picked a more convenient mid town location for my various meetings. It is also within walking distance of most major tourist atractions in the area. Should have offered access to ice. Also, the street noise at all hours of the night was offputting, even for New York. It was like rooming next to a Sopranos-managed carting site.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"GOOD HOTEL FOR LOCATION."
Good. area. close to everthing we wanted to see. Elevators small, rooms could habve been bigger.. NO CLOSETS.Genuine Expedia guest review

Pretty basic. Very convenient location, near subway and busses. Clean & quiet. Decent price.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Slipping A Bit Every Year"
I rent two rooms for Thanksgiving at this hotel and have for four years now. It is VERY convenient to NYC-based family--so we tolerate more than we would in other hotels. Each year, it gets a bit dirtier, a bit in less repair and a bit darker than the year before. Although they call themselves smoke-free, they ignore smoking in the rooms (guests will […] notice ashtrays placed in each room), so it is increasingly difficult to get a room that doesn't stink. The heat register in one of the rooms did not work the entire stay--and although reported, there was no repair from the maintenance staff at all. Someone at the hotel said that this property had been recently sold. I wonder if attention to the basics will improve. And then I wonder if the rates will go up. Oh, well. It was nice while it lasted. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Generally Great"
First of all, the hotel has a really awesome location. It's so convenient to go sightseeing and shopping, or having a delicious Korean meal. The room is comfortable and quiet. The only weakness is that the free wifi connection in the room is always very poor.Genuine Expedia guest review

"It's OK if the price is right."
1. My room was very small and old. It could use a remodel. 2. My room was quiet, which is a BIG plus for me. This may have been my first hotel in NY where I didn't hear street noise. (I've learned that if you ask for a "quiet room" that also means a "room without a view", which is what I had.) 3. They don't have WiFi in the rooms. I was glad that my […] stay was only 2 nights and will be looking for something else for my next trip. The good news is it was quiet, clean and I felt safe. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Ok but nothing great"
Shower was awful... Very little water pressure and it was either HOT or COLD. There is absolutely no view, we were on the 10th (top) floor, all we could see were the other walls and windows. Room was so smallwe could barely change our minds.... Decent location, but expected more for my moneyGenuine Expedia guest review
Place was nice and located in a great area.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Low quality hotel in great location"
Nothing spectacular with the hotel or the room aside from its location. We lost power the same evening we checked in as a result of hurricane Sandy. No emergency lighting and no hot water. Checked out at 5 am making our way down 5 flights of stairs in total darkeness.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Money well spent"
A charmer! Old World ambiance yet reasonable in price. Certainly the cleanest New York City hotel for the money. We will use again when in NYC.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Not good!!"
Spend a little more and have a better experience!!!Tthe front desk staff wasn't at all helpful. The hotel room smelled like rotten food. It was very stuffy and the air conditioner worked as long as you sat directly in front of it. We stayed in October, outside temp was 55 but our room was still super hot. I found the location not very near much of what […] we wanted to see. It was close to the Empire State building. The rooms didn't have bed bugs and showed no evidence of bed bugs. However, the pillows and sheets had hair all over them. I found that so disgusting! We asked for new but never got them. In my opinion, the hotel was cheap through Hotels.com but I will pay a bit more to stay in a cleaner hotel that is in a better location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"My Stay"
I like this hotel very much. I've already recomended it for my friends.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"stay here!!"
I loved the lunch counter type cafe' located near the lobby. Room was clean, shower was hot, no noisy guests next to us. 4 pm check in is a little tough, but that would really be the only complaint. I would definitely stay there again. Price was reasonable for the area we stayed at.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Here goes my rating!"
The only good feedback I could leave for such a hotel is the fact that it's clean and a bit neat! ,other than that stay away as much as you possibly could and here is why :- 1- No wifi access in-room 2- There's only one elevator in it making you wait for ages to get to upper floors! 3- Furniture has seen better days!Genuine Expedia guest review

clean, centrally located, wifi in lobby only, reasonably priced No room wifi, no ice machine, no tissues, no view, no hot water kettle, no breakfastGenuine Expedia guest review
"cheapest I could find for location"
I won't be staying here again. They have a refrigerator but no microwave or coffee maker. Seems like I would have the other two if I was running the business. they don't run all the time like a refrigerator. If you stay in the center of the building, you have no view. the lights in the building make everything gray like a horror movie. We kept the main […] lights out and used the lamps for a warmer feel. The elevator was incredibly slow. We took the stairs a lot. The staff was friendly and the location was great for moving our daughter into college. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"unimpressed"
I was severely unimpressed with my stay, thank goodness it was only for one night. The room stunk of cigarette smoke, even though it was supposedly non-smoking. My room was right next to the loud elevator door and a door to the hallway. Both of these were loud and constantly being opened and closed throughout the night. There was free internet in the […] lobby, however you had to deal with about 35 other people in the lobby making video calls without headphones. The air conditioning was a window unit that was extremely loud. I would never stay at this hotel again. The phrase 'you get what you pay for' definitely applies to this hotel. "Inexpensive little hotel in a good location"
This hotel is a decent one to stay at. The subway, Times Square, Park Ave are all at your door step. There are convenient little breakfast joints and quite a bit of Asian food nearby. Also, there is an Iconic Parking garage that gives discounts to hotel guests. Overall, the stay was fine except that our bathroom walls needed to be cleaned and the beds […] were quite creaky. The hotel staff couldn't remember how many guests were in the room (2) which ensured our walking downstairs every night to get the adequate amount of towels, etc. I've gone to other hotels in the area that were less expensive and probably had a little bit better service than at the Grand Union, but i would certainly stay there again, depending on the price. "Nice Hotel"
Pleasantly surprised with the location of the hotel and condition of the room. Small, clean, adequate. Staff was pleasant. Four blocks from Empire State building. Can easily walk to Time Square. Subway access is very close. I'm glad I picked this hotel.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"convenient"
Good position, very close to the empire state building! Anyway the street where it is located was very noisy day and night. The room was small and the air conditioning very very noisy, definitely not usable during the night! Free internet available only in the lobby! Only one, small, elevator!!Genuine Expedia guest review

Great location with validated parking @ $20 close by. A/C in room blew on beds so we moved bed out of draft. Hallways were hot. Staff was cordial & helpful & Deli next door for breakfast. Internet in lobby area reliable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Good for price - 2 blocks from Empire State Bldg"
Generally a good place to stay - downsides are no views and/or 1 window looking at interior bricks of building; also air conditioner in our room was 2 feet from, and blowing directly at, the bed. Reception and staff were very friendly - replaced one of our mattresses that was far too soft (like sleepingin a hammock). Breakfast not included. WiFi only […] in hotel reception area - hotel could benefit from installing wifi availability for rooms. Wait for ONLY elevator in the 10-story hotel can be a bit long. Best qualities of the hotel are friendliness of staff and half block to subway - make sure you have right change or small bills for subway tickets. Would consider staying there again. "Good but not great location; neat hotel though"
Neat and cozy hotel but wifi needs improvement as it can only be accessed from the lobby area downstairs. Hotel staff were helpful and friendly.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good location but really avg hotel"
The location is good and room size also decent according to downtown NYC standards. However, the staff is not that cooperative. Moreover, our room had like 2 other fire doors before our room. So I had more luggage and it was very difficult for me to move luggage into my room. The hotel didnt allow me to store some of the luggage on the ground floor […] and I had to carry all luggage alone with only one elevator and 2 closed doors before I reach my room. This was a hectic experience considering I was there for only one night. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location"
The Hotel is in a good location near 34th Street and the garment district, Broadway and Herald Square, Macy's and my dance school and the subway and a little further Penn Station and Madison Square Garden. The Hotel was clean and the staff polite and helpful. The only problem was with the water for the shower ....the water thermostat seemed off...switching […] between hot and cold often but the room was spacious and comfortable on the 10th floor and compensated for that inadequacy. I would stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
They should invest more into improving the hotel for equipping rooms with free wifi, flat screen tv, coffee machine, ironing board and iron....especially new A/C covering the bath room as well. There is no light where the shower is so it is so dark i could not see things well. The hot water or cold water was so erratic that it was extremely hot or […] cold. The only thing i have something to say is that it was very hot in the hallways, elevator and even the room until I turned the AC on. And until I cleaned the filter myself, i wasn't getting much cool air. Also, the front desk rebooked my room and had a visit from another customer who had the same room key.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"bring your own soap & wahcloths"
Mostly this hotel was OK, but they do not have washcloths and we were given one hotel sized sliver of soap to share between the four of us for both the shower and the sink.the staff was nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Sketch hotel but great location"
The hotel is in a great location, with a subway stop at the end of the block. However, the room wasn't clean. There was hair all over the sink and a tube of toothpaste from a previous guest. The sink also did not drain properly. The hotel staff was unhelpful and unfriendly. The single elevator was extremely slow and only held 5 people. "Good buy for NYC hotel."
Room was more spacious than expected for a NYC hotel in this price range. Even had a table with 2 chairs and plenty of room around the bed. Bed was reasonably comfortable, bathroom was large, AC worked. Very convenient location. Only downside was very erratic hot water. Difficult to control temp.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"fantastic location!!!"
this was our 3rd time staying at the Grand Union - need I say more?Convenient to EVERYTHING, by foot , subway, cab,bus etc.., clean, comfortable, Captains restaurant has a GREAT breakfast! Really can't ask for more - almost forgot, the rates are GREAT,so reasonable!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Convenient location, good price."
I was satisfied with this experience. The hotel is not the fanciest, most spacious, or highest luxury place in NYC, but at the good price and accessible location, I have no complaints. For just a quick in-and-out business trip, I was pleased.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Grand Union is suitable for New York holiday..."
For New York, being at the center is very important that you save too much time and Hotel Grand Union is at the center.. Three or four minutes to Empire State buildind and ten miuntes to Times Square by walking.. Very near to subway station. Hotel has almost 100 rooms, 20 of them have street view. Other rooms' windows are looking at back ( a little […] bit dark) but no problemv for us. Hotel's reception was great, they were very helpful.. Our room was small but clean, we just used for sleeping so it was again OK for us.. For breakfast, next door of the hotel, there is a cafe called ''Captain's Cafe'', it's owners are very very frindly, clean and cheap place. No need to spend time for looking for a breakfast place. Just sleep at the hotel, have your breakfast at the cafe and explore New York.. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
