Very cold in the room at night. We called down to ask about how to turn up the heat and were told to turn the knob on the radiator, which we of course had already done (and tried again), but it remained very cold all night.

The mattress in my room was the hardest I've ever encountered. There was no bed spread, just 2 sheets and a thin blanket. I rent two rooms for Thanksgiving at this hotel and have for four years now. It is VERY convenient to NYC-based family--so we tolerate more than we would in other hotels. Each year, it gets a bit dirtier, a bit in less repair and a bit darker than the year before. Although they call themselves smoke-free, they ignore smoking in the rooms (guests will […] notice ashtrays placed in each room), so it is increasingly difficult to get a room that doesn't stink. The heat register in one of the rooms did not work the entire stay--and although reported, there was no repair from the maintenance staff at all. First of all, the hotel has a really awesome location. It's so convenient to go sightseeing and shopping, or having a delicious Korean meal. The room is comfortable and quiet. The only weakness is that the free wifi connection in the room is always very poor.

Nothing spectacular with the hotel or the room aside from its location. We lost power the same evening we checked in as a result of hurricane Sandy. No emergency lighting and no hot water. Checked out at 5 am making our way down 5 flights of stairs in total darkeness.

Spend a little more and have a better experience!!!Tthe front desk staff wasn't at all helpful. The hotel room smelled like rotten food. It was very stuffy and the air conditioner worked as long as you sat directly in front of it. We stayed in October, outside temp was 55 but our room was still super hot. I loved the lunch counter type cafe' located near the lobby. Room was clean, shower was hot, no noisy guests next to us. 4 pm check in is a little tough, but that would really be the only complaint. I would definitely stay there again. Price was reasonable for the area we stayed at.

The only good feedback I could leave for such a hotel is the fact that it's clean and a bit neat! ,other than that stay away as much as you possibly could and here is why :- 1- No wifi access in-room 2- There's only one elevator in it making you wait for ages to get to upper floors! 3- Furniture has seen better days!

I was severely unimpressed with my stay, thank goodness it was only for one night. The room stunk of cigarette smoke, even though it was supposedly non-smoking. My room was right next to the loud elevator door and a door to the hallway. Both of these were loud and constantly being opened and closed throughout the night. This hotel is a decent one to stay at. The subway, Times Square, Park Ave are all at your door step. There are convenient little breakfast joints and quite a bit of Asian food nearby. The only thing i have something to say is that it was very hot in the hallways, elevator and even the room until I turned the AC on. Room was more spacious than expected for a NYC hotel in this price range. Even had a table with 2 chairs and plenty of room around the bed. Bed was reasonably comfortable, bathroom was large, AC worked. Very convenient location. Only downside was very erratic hot water. Difficult to control temp.

For New York, being at the center is very important that you save too much time and Hotel Grand Union is at the center.. Three or four minutes to Empire State buildind and ten miuntes to Times Square by walking.. Very near to subway station. Hotel has almost 100 rooms, 20 of them have street view. Our room was small but clean, we just used for sleeping so it was again OK for us.. For breakfast, next door of the hotel, there is a cafe called ''Captain's Cafe'', it's owners are very very frindly, clean and cheap place. No need to spend time for looking for a breakfast place.
