I found it in hotels. Com for $96.00 per night it was a great deal for a hotel near the beach. If the hotel would've been somewhere else than the beach maybe I would've paid $25 per night. The hotel itself very very old the room had a very noisy Wall A/C ,no heater, toilet seat loose, only 2 sets of towels, the shower walls had rusty stains, the bottom […] of the tub needed attention it was all chipped . The building is really old with very narrow hallways painted with blue and has florescent blue lights. The wall paper and cabinets were old and peeling. It did not smell fresh. The location was the only benefit.Genuine Expedia guest review

"A day on the beach!!!"
I actually stumbled upon this hotel thanks to hotels.com. Well firstly, I pulled up in front of the hotel and the valet parking attendant was prompt. Twenty - five dollars to park, and you can call the service to retrieve your vechicle at any time. Not bad considering there was no parking on the street plus I was there for the weekend. Walked into the […] hotel, very quaint, a few guests having lunch and some people having drinks in the front. The front desk attendant went over my reservation and explained there's a $19 USA resort fee. In that resort fee it included (free towels to the beach, free wifi, 2 welcome drinks, free continental breakfast, 30% off the bar, and resturant, free local calls, two free bottles of water per day and free luggage service (very handy). Got to the room there was a huge king size bed, room was pretty clean. Very modern; flat screen tv, small fridge, iron, iron board, I pod radio, nice lighting. The bathroom was very clean, everything was modern, my only complaint about the bathroom was that the faucet in the sink dripped. Besides that the room was perfect. Got changed collected two towels for me and my mom and then hit the beach. Literally the beach is rite across the street. Which is the biggest appeal of this hotel. By the time we got back to the hotel the lights all along ocean drive were on. It kinda came alive, walked back to the hotel and there's people having dinner or drinks. I mean there's always something going on, it was very quiet though. Changed off and decided to have a few drinks in front the hotel ( got our 2 free drinks), also ordered a few beers and two shots of tequila. Hit the strip for dinner and a bar. Got back around 1am, there were still a bit of people in front the hotel having night caps or a very late meal. Called it a night. Now I got up at 5 am to make a run to the store. Booked a twin room through Expedia and on arrival were given a double room, when I asked for the twin I booked I was told this was not available as the hotel was full (it wasn't, several people checked in after our arrival) and a fold down bed offered as an alternative. "Excellent locaton but rooms were small and shabby"
We stayed here for a couple of days before going on a cruise. The rooms were a little run down. The hotel charges a resort fee which includes breakfast and beach towels. Drove 4 hours from Lakeland, FL to South Beach booking at the Penguin Hotel not knowing what kind of place it would be, knowing it was a old structure. The rooms were very nice and clean. Hotel was ruined and had hidden fees for example the resort fee of 19.99 for Continental Breakfast which you have to go run a marathon to get to, I was so confused on where to go. I thought a lot of issues where addressed when the Hotel Impossible renovated it but i guess not or they went back to normal. The hotel Breakfast is no where near resort quality […] i was disgusted and went to News Cafe for breakfast. There is not parking and valet is an extra 30 a day. Bed was very uncomfortable and not clean. The mirrors in the room were so old that they had internal stains. They charge you and extra 19.99 per person that stays in the room, I believe that makes no sense. Overall i would have not minded paying 40 extra and knowing that i am taken care of some where else. "Staff not on same page"
Paid for a double room (2 beds) - arrived to only be able to have one bed in room. They had wanted to charge me $30 for roll out bed. I demanded for it free because the mix up was unacceptable. Considering that I was being charged 21.00$ anyway for 2 "complimentary" bottles of water (2 pint size water bottles) and also for complimentary breakfast which […] was at another hotel which was a couple blocks away. Eventually the woman at front desk agreed and gave me the roll out bed for no charge. I realize though that the room mix up was not fault of hotel. Major issues I had was with valet. The waitresses, the front desk, and all staff were completely clueless on how to handle the valet service. Waitress literally made me go down to next hotel claiming that was the valet service for the hotel. Of course it wasn't. Then when I finally parked out front, front desk said that they were charge me in morning for valet and to not worry about giving them car keys. I woke up with a ticket for 42.00$ on my car and all staff claiming that someone should've taken my keys. Even though there were no "valet staff" anywhere to be found during check in or the next morning for check out. All of the staff is definitely NOT on the same page. It was ok. Our room was right next to the kitchen so every time someone went through the swinging door you could hear it squeak. And I guess when I'm paying that much for a room, I expect something a little nicer. This hotel is relaxing due to being just north of all the noise, parties, and ruckuz of South Beach.. yet it is within walking distance of everything.
