"Central location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
The Convent Hotel is located on one of the main streets in Amsterdam and within easy walking distance to the Centraal Train station and Dam Square-so public transportation is a snap. The hotel is well kept and the staff is very friently. The one complaint about the staff is that they do not seem very knowledgeable about typical tourist activities in Amsterdam and we didn't find a concierge staff member to help with some of our questions. Our booking through hotels.com did not include the breakfast, which looked wonderful and was expensive, so we found a lovely little care within a block or two from the hotel for our breakfasts. Lots of tours seem to use the hotel, so the staff is very comfortable speaking in English with everyone. The entrance to the hotel faces the very busy street, but the rooms are all in the back of the hotel and are very quiet. We enjoyed our stay. I would suggest trying to get the breakfast included in the hotel price.

"Easy walk to must see sights"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The hotel was clean, nice, the staff friendly and helpful, especially the Concierge. The location was great, within walking distance of many restaurants, and things to see in Amsterdam.

Situated just south of the Museum Quarter, Apollolaan is an upscale residential area. It is approximately three kilometres from the city centre (10 minutes by bus), and is favoured by business travellers visiting the RAI Congress and Trade Fair Centre or World Trade Centre. Occasional major pop concerts and sporting events also take place here.

We arrived early and our room was not available. We were offered something close, but I declined as this was a special trip and I wanted no compromise. The hotel graciously upgraded our room for the entire week. The staff is excellent, however they are shorthanded. Expect to wait, but be patient. Their service is stellar. The room was spotless every […] day. The shower was roomy but the design lead to excessive water on the floor. Bring your own washcloth! The view of the canal was beautiful and calming, but the outside windows needed cleaning badly. A short walk to restaurants, busses, trams and stores. The location is a quiet neighborhood with only a short walk to restaurants, stores, busses and trams. Overall, we were highly satisfied with the Wyndam Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam. Thank you! Read more

"Spacious Rooms"
"Normal" size hotel room. Not the small rooms you'd expect in Europe. This place is a little further out, but in a nice quiet neighborhood. Excellent Thai restaurant in walking distance. We stayed one night here then moved in closer to be able to be in walking distance of the main attractions. Hotel is clean. Nothing fancy, just the basic ammenitie […] s. Read more
"Hotel Wyndham Apollo Amsterdam modern and comfort"
I was especially happy with finding a well appointed workout room. Using the new OV transportation card in th NL's makes getting around Amsterdam easier than ever. For visiting the Art Museums it is a great location.

"Good canal side hotel. A little dated."
Our room had a great view of the canal. Parking very expensive. No free parking option. If you have a motorcycle or scooter, or the omnipresent bicycle, don't pay. There is space to the right of the entry for two wheelers. Very expensive restaurant. Good value room with high priced amenities. Gym small.

"Great spot!"
The Wyndham Apollo Hotel is located in the perfect spot, on the confluence of 5 canals, with the bar/lounge/restaurants all on the water, this place is really a gem. Lovely service. The only drawback was the shower, which always flooded the bathroom floor b/c of a poor design. Otherwise, highly recommended!
"Friendly staff but not a 4 star hotel in my book"
3 stars is a more fair assessment. Teh view is very nice and it is quiet so you sleep well.
"STAY AWAY !!!"
THE PICTURES OF THE ROOMS ON THIS WEBSITE ARE NOT THE ACTUAL ROOM PHOTOS. STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL. THE LOBBY IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT THE ROOMS ARE DISGUSTING, OLD, WALL PAPER PEELING OFF, DIRTY CARPETS, SCRATCHED UP FURNITURE FROM 1970, ITS FAR FROM THE MAIN ATTRACTIONS, THE STAFF WAS NICE BUT THATS ABOUT IT. I WOULD NEVER EVER STAY HERE AGAIN. THANK […] GOD I ONLY HAD TO STAY FOR 1 NIGHT. Read more
"Expensive Wireless and no complimentary breakfast"
This hotel does not have free wireless. They charge 12 EURO for 24 hours wireless. I think being 4 star hotel and amount of money they charge for stay, they should have free wireless included. now a days wireless access is no longer luxury, it is neccessity. Also, the same thing for complimentary breakfast. most 4 star hotels do include free breakfast. Overall, […] expensive hotel with no perks....If I have known I would have chosen somewhere else. "Wyndham AMS"
Nice spacious location and close to WTC in south AMS for easy train from and to Schipho and eight euro cab. . Wifi signal was very weak in my section of hotel.
"not enough lights in the room"
we had a very pleasant stay the lights in the rooms are not enough, it is very difficult to read -the lamps near the beds have low watt bulbs and you cannot read the room has no lights except for these bedlamps and one standing lamp which is also very low watt also i musty add that avery small hotel in the middle of knowhere gives you as part of the […] service wifi! to pay 10 euro for one hour is outrageous Read more
"On the outskkirts"
While this is a very nice hotel it is way outside of the downtown area which may be a plus for some.
"A hotel with potential"
The hotel was ok but the bed was one of the worst I've ever slept on. The mattress felt as though it was stuffed with straw.

"Wyndham Hotel Amsterdam"
The hotel was wonderful. The staff and the concierge were extremely helpful. The rooms had good air conditioning. The breakfast was great. The location was off the center ring, making it quiet from the buses and trams. The walk to the tram was on 7 minutes- slowly- and we were able to walk to the National Museum. Only the internet was a bit costly - […] but available. Highly recommend the hotel. Read more
"Excellent all around"
We were totally pleased with one exception- the hotel provides very thick pillows which were uncomfortable for one of us. Location requires a bit of walking, but we liked that.
"quiet and comfort"
This hotel is convinient to the RAI and the VAN GOGH Museum it offers a great quiet setting with a friendly and helpful staff.
"Great room for the money"
We were lucky to get this hotel room last minute. It was sizable compared to other accommodations in Europe. The room was very comfortable and the hotel was beautiful. The hotel is located in a nicer part of town not too far from Amsterdam Zuid station.
"Very Nice Hotel"
Booked this room on short notice and the quality exceeded my expectations. A little far from the center of Amsterdam, but do-able for the adventurous walker. Hotel was very clean and comfortable, with lovely staff and terrific restaurant.
"Love to go back"
The suites are excellent value with active canal views. Little out, but rent a bike and you are at the station in 15 minutes. It's also very quiet. Breakfast is quite expensive, but the market is five minutes by bike.
"Great room, good location, excellent staff"
Newer property, quiet neighborhood, above-average sized rooms, very helpful staff. Electric scooters are available for rental and are a lot of fun.
"Good hotel out of town"
I was there with a small baby and hence it proved to be good to be out of town. The staff were ectremely friendly and the concierge in particular was very helpful with organising bike hire, giving information etc. It is about a 45 minute walk from Dam square but it is well served by two tram lines within 5 min walk either direction of the hotel. […] I marked down the cleanliness as the room was clean but the bathroom was not spectacularly clean. Also the bed linen was not changed in the 4 days that we spent there. Overall we enjoyed our trip and it suits if you do not want to stay in town. Food was quite expensive so we chose not to eat breakfast there, there are plenty of places within 10 minute walk to eat. "Expensive and not central there are better hotels in Amsterdam"
This hotel is at best average. My room was not cleaned properly as the bathroom was still dirtly on 2nd night of stay. Nothing is inclueded internet is at least 10 EUR per hour. Breakfast is not included. It does have parking. It is way out from the centre of Amsterdam (10 min walk, 10 min tram). Close to World trade Centre but that's its only plus […] point. Read more
"A Working and Restful Hotel"
The hotel is convenient and nearby the RAI Congress Hall and the Museum Plan. A great place to stay if your business is at the RAI. Friendly, Courteous and Attentive Staff. The room renovations are not yet completed. Will keep returning if the present standards are met and continued.
"Beautiful Hotel in a Great Location"
Super friendly staff and very very nice hotel.
"Amsterdam"
Wonderful hotel, located on the canal south of the city..easy access via the trams to the main city centre.
"Nice hotel, far from centre"
Good hotel, staff is friendly and willing to help (though not all the staff people have knowledge about the city). The hotel is quite far from the centre, need to take a tram/bike but people who like museums can stay there because it's very close to the museum quarter. All the services in the hotel are very expansive. WIFI is ridiculously expansive, […] you can get it for free in the city centre. Consumption of water from the mini-bar is more expansive than the beer (!?), breakfast is expansive, eating in a coffee is better. Parking is huge but really expansive, don't come with car. Very quite rooms, nice lobby, nice view to the canals, patio rooms are recommended, parks are close, tram is 500 metres walk. Bottom line: recommended hotel, but if you find the same price and level hotel in the centre, you should take it. Read more

"Good location, budget type service"
12£ for wifi, 30£ for parking, 14£ for Breakfast, so basically for everything u have to pay an extra offset.
Bar Service not professional good Food Breakfast very good food and very good service
"Wyndham Apollo Hotel"
Very comfortable hotel close to most places in the city you need to get to. Can walk to the museums in 15 minutes or take a tram nearby. Staff are friendly and helpful and everyone speaks English. There is even a nice new pub located a block away if you want some local flavour!

"Convenient location"
We spent 4 pleasant nights in Wyndham Apollo Hotel in Amsterdam last week. Our room was very nice, recently renovated and with the canal view. The hotel overall looks nice, and the staff is friendly and helpful. They offered us breakfast for a reduced price of 12,50 euros per day, but we didn't take it, cause we thought it would be nicer to have breakfast […] in the city. I think we would be better off, if we took that offer. It's very easy to reach the hotel from the Amsterdam Schiphol airport. You can take the train to Amsterdam Zuid station, and than either tram number 5 or bus number 65 from there. You can find the details on Google maps. The whole trip took less than half hour. It's also conveniently located in Amsterdam, cause you can take trams 5 or 21 to the center. It's less than 15 min. drive. We even walked to the hotel on 2 nights, and it took us less than an hour, and it was a very nice walk, since the hotel neighborhood looks safe. We haven't used night buses, so I don't know how easy it is to come back in the middle of night, but based on the experience with day time public transport in Amsterdam, which is great, I don't think there should be any problem with it either. I would definitely come back to this hotel. Read more
"Good but not 4*"
The room we booked into was a deluxe queen room; however upon entry we found the wallpaper had a chip in it, 2 white stains on the floor and ductape on the bathroom door. When I went down to reception with photographs I was instantly given the option with apologies for the executive room, slightly larger with a view over the marina which we took at […] no extra cost. The door to the bathroom didn’t have a lock on it and was made of glass with a good inch clearance on the bottom of it to the floor. In a 4 night stay there were two rather large spiders caught on the walls, this could have been because we'd left the windows open. During our stay, the highly rated fish restaurant which we were looking forward to going to was actually closed, and only serving a refined menu, the portions were small and the food was served out in the bar. The staff however were fine and smiley, signing up to the “wyndham hotel club” gives you free internet otherwise you will be charged. The hotel's location is good once you get to know the area and could be considered walking distance to the city centre however not with luggage. Would I stay at this hotel again, probably not, I would stay closer to the centre. Read more

"Ideal for a good vacation"
We stayed 4 nights in wyndham, and it was totally perfect. The guy at the reception stay at nights was so helpful, and although it is a little bit away from tourist atractions it was easy to walk there. Also tram is in 5 min walk.. I definetely recommend wyndham apollo hotel.
"Excellent stay"
Happy to recommend this and confirm several previous review comments. The location is very good if you are driving, quick and easy access from the motorway and plenty of secure parking (@30 euros per night). Nice views of the canals, room in excellent condition and clean Short easy walk to the tram stop for 5 and 24 which both go into the centre and […] stop at key spots on the way in like Leidseplein and Albert Cuyp Market Didn't eat there so can't comment on that Lots of impressive sculptures on Apollolaan at the moment because of the Zuid Art exhibition Would go back Read more
"Nice hotel..would stay again"
The hotel was easy to find from the motorway, lots of secure parking. Hotel staff very friendly, gave us a map of the city and recommended a few places. Room - okay - adequate for what we had paid. Ate in the hotel bar, nice food and ambiance to the place overlooking the canals. Staff friendly and food/drinks not too expensive. Hotel carparking […] fee was a little expensive, considering we were not right in the city and a little shocked to be charged tourist tax! Overall though, the hotel was lovely and I think we would stay there again if we were driving and had the car to park. Read more

"The only place we ever stay in Amsterdam"
For the last 10 years we've been staying only in Wyndham Apollo when we visit Amsterdam for short work periods in Optical Express, Apollo Laan. We absolutely love the Terrace and water activity. Most of the friendly and affecient staff are all still the same as 10 years ago. We look foreward to make our next reservation We would like to congratulate […] Wyndham Apollo for their warmness and excellent service. Read more
I enjoyed my stay and Windham Apollo Hotel. The neighborhood is quiet and residential, but is really close to the Tram line 5, which will take you to the center of the city and many interesting sites like the Van Gogh museum. The premises of the hotel are really nice. My main problem was that the bathroom in my room was not spotless as bathrooms usually […] are in a hotel of this price range, more specifically the tiles needed to be scrubbed carefully. I did not like the fact that wireless internet was not included in the price and you have to pay 12 euros for 24 hours, that's a lot. I'm not sure if this is common in the Netherlands, but in most hotels I have used, internet is included, and again, this is not a cheap hotel. I also found the breakfast price to be really high, I actually did not use it. But I liked the hotel because the room was quite comfortable and the location really nice. Read more
"Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam"
A 2 star room at 4 star prices. Tatty room and the bathroom floor was a lake after having a shower. Beds were uncomfortable as well. Not good value for money!
"Wyndham Apollo Hotel Amsterdam"
The Hotel was a bit further out that my wife and I thought, but once we mastered the Trams (5 or 24 to Appollolaan) it was a breeze. Incidentally you can buy a three day or 72 hour ticket at the Central Station for less than 15 euros each. The Hotel is very clean and the staff are very helpful. We chose not to eat in the hotel ourselves as the prices […] seemed a bit high for a family used hotel. Because it is only 5 minutes walk from the RAI centre it is predominately used by business people. Nice Hotel though and we would stay there again in Amstrdam Read more
Good value for money, nice big room with a sofa and views over the canal. Highly recommended!
"Location, location, location"
This hotel was very clean and comfortable. The location is off the "beaten path", located in a quiet neighborhood on a canal just south-east of Vondelpark. A 10-15 minute walk to the van Gogh museum. 5 minute walk to the closest tram line at Apollolaan. Hotel staff were extremely courteous and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
