My review is fairly consistent with the other reviews of this hotel. Room was very basic with rather old furniture. Nothing exciting about the room at all. Very poor basic decor. Very cute girls and friendly attitude at the front desk. Parking is extra...$10 per car...per night! You will be fully charged on arrival!! Area is asian (chinatown) and seemed ok. Doors to stairs are locked from the outside at night so elevator is your only option. Bed linen smelled like a strong chemical the first night but was ok the second night. Remember to put the sign on your door early if you want to sleep in otherwise housekeeping will be knocking on your door at approx 9am and will try to come in. Close to downtown LA. 5 minute walk from the LA State Historic Park makes this worth every penny. If you are seeing a concert there, this is hands-down the most convenient hotel option around. Added bonuses are the quick walk to the Metro stations and free breakfast included.

The Good: 1) The room was very clean. 2) Staff was polite. The Not-so Good: 1) The room I had reserved, with confirmation number (2 queen-sized beds) was not available when I arrived. They asked if I would stay in a room with a king-sized bed. I agreed, but this would have been a problem had I been traveling with a companion. 2) There was a water leak […] in my room that the management apparently knew about, but rented the room to me anyway. There was standing water on the floor in front of the sink. They seemed to know about the leak when I reported it. 3) The "free" internet did not work at all: it required a data line for connection, which they provided on some recoil device. The data line connector was broken. The recoil on the data line would not hold in any position other than fully recoiled. When I manually held the connector in place within my computer jack, there was still no signal. 3) There was significant road noise. I suspect that this was due to single pane glass being used. 4) If you drive there, you must park in an alley and walk down the alley a few hundred feet to the corridor which leads to the lobby (safety concerns - I arrived after dark). 5) Once registered you must return to your car and drive down a tight, circular ramp to a basement where I was told a valet would park my car. I was given a slip to provide to the valet. There was no valet present when I arrived, nor when I left the following morning. In sum, my stay at the Best Western Plus Dragon's Gate Inn not a particularly pleasant experience. I won't be returning. Read more

We booked a 1 night stay at this hotel for it's close proximity to Union Station. We traveled in on the train to attend a Dodger game, spending the night and then taking the train home. Overall the hotel itself is nice, a good value for the price. Staff was very friendly both at the hotel and at the cafe where you can get your continental breakfast. […] The room itself was very clean and well kept. The bed and linens aren't the most comfy or luxurious, but did the trick for a night at a great price. There were a few flies in our room that I think snuck in when we went out on the little balcony (that had a nice view of the hills and Chinatown by the way). I think the flies were hanging out outside our balcony by the near by restaurant- sneaky buggars! The neighborhood is busy and bustling during the day, but be aware- not a hoppin' area at night (nothing stays open all that late) and if you're looking for eats other than Chinese or delicious Phillepe french dips then you don't want to stay in Chinatown. :) I would stay here again if taking the train up for a Dodger game again. The room was clean and comfortable. The purpose of our trip was to attend Dodger stadium, and the hotel was four minutes away. The continental breakfast left a lot to be desired. The staff was friendly and helpful. The parking fee was an irritation, but I felt that my vehicle was more secure being parked in the parking garage. We stayed here for a few days, and the hotel staff were courteous and the rooms were clean. The free breakfast came in the form of tickets that you would hand to the clerk at the little convenience store at the corner of the hotel complex. The main problem we had is our room was facing Hill Street and it had a balcony. The door to the balcony had no […] weather stripping on it, so we heard all of the street traffic on Hill Street all night long; obnoxious car exhausts, garbage trucks in the early morning, Laker fans honking their horns on the way home, etc. It was hard to get any restful sleep for the duration we were there. If you like Chinese food, that is what you're only going to find unless you want to do some walking! The Sam Woo BBQ Restaurant around the corner on Broadway is rather delicious, but they only take cash. The only place we at during our trip that wasn't cash-only was a Burger King. Make sure you bring money! The location of the hotel didn't feel unsafe or dangerous for a 2-star rating. It might be a good place to stay if you were there for a Dodger game, but it isn't very convenient if you're there for an event at the LA Convention Center or Staples Center. There is a public bus that stops across from the hotel and goes to the Staples Center. It is about a 15 minute bus ride. Read more
