The Best Western Olimpia was the perfect hotel for our 3 days in Venice before a cruise. We took a bus from the airport (20 minutes) to Piazzale Roma and could see the hotel from there. Then a 5-minute walk and we were checking in. Be sure to get a room in the main building since it has the only elevator. The staff was super friendly, the breakfast […] and wifi were included. Because we were returning a car and had a great deal of luggage from a month of travel, we chose to stay close to the Piazza Roma transport hub which provides easy access to all of Venice on the ACTV Vapporetti System. Great location! We took a local city bus at airport to city square drop-off point, and hotel was right there! We walked to it! And just a short, one-block walk to the "People Mover" that took us to the cruise ship. And their buffet breakfast was a wonderful, delicious and a very large selection surprise that even had a waiter to refill coffee, water, […] etc... The bathroom was also spacious. This was a very fine hotel of its class. The staffs' English was very good, and they were very helpful. My room was in an annex to the hotel which did not have an elevator, but this was no problem for me, and the bellman helped bring my bags up stairs. The breakfast was a high point because they had scrambled eggs and a European style bacon on the menu. […] The location is only a short walk from the St. Lucia train station, and can be easily walked to. I wanted to visit the Church of St. Nicolas on the island of Lido. Looking at the map, it seemed that it would be impossible without a car. When I asked at the desk, they were able to give clear instructions on how to take the waterbus over to the island. The cab ride to the church was only 7.80 euros. It was fixed. There is a 20 euro 12-hour pass for the waterbus, and a person may want to consider that if one is moving around Venice. Finally, the downer was the canal bridge to the east of the train station. It does not have a ramp structure, and even though the steps are only 4-5 inches high, one has to carry one's bags up the bridge. Going down, with the small steps is no problem. Watch out for the folks who want to "help" you with your bags. They don't accept "no" easily. If they carry your bag, expect to be hounded by them for a tip. These guys aren't motivated out of charity to help the stranger. Read more

This hotel offers old world charm. Lovely decor, relatively large guest rooms, including bathroom (usually they are very small in Italy) very nice breakfast, great service, super location close to bus/train /water taxi terminals. All at a great price. A true find. We loved it.

This was a perfect hotel for our post cruise overnight stay. Located right across the canal from the bus station, there is only one easy bridge to cross with bags taking about 5 minutes to walk. After getting off the ship we were able to check in and drop our bags, then spent the day exploring Venice. Returning late afternoon, our bags were in our room. […] Our room was clean, quiet, and comfortable. We were able to make our 6:45am flight by leaving the hotel at 4:40am, walking to the bus station to take the 5am ATVO airport express bus to the Marco Polo Venice airport. I was in venice foe one night. The hotel is not even a 5 minutes walk to P. Roma, which has the express bus from and to the airport. When I got there, they had a map that was ready for a short walk tour of venice. Very friendly staff.

The accommodations were comfortable and clean. The room was tiny. Did I say tiny, I meant tiny. We were in the attic room with sloped ceilings and very tight accommodations. The rooms were non-smoking in our wing of the hotel, yet four days in a row, two times a day we lodged complaints about our downstairs neighbors smoking both in the room and with […] the window open and rolling into our room. Each time, we would hear the phone below us ring and arguing ensued in Italian. The smoking was terrible, it is one thing on the streets, but a completely different story when we are supposed to be in a non-smoking room and all of the rooms below us were non-smoking as well. Very, very disappointing. Other than that, the staff was very good, but the constant smoke seeping into our room was awful. If I had paid any more than we did, the hotel staff would have got a very large verbal confrontation from me, but, I wasn't willing to risk having to find new accommodations over the hotel's inability to deal with their issue. A (currently five euro) bus ride (or 80 euro taxi ride) from the airport will take you to the transportation hub of Venice, Piazalle Roma. where you can take a vaporetto (boat) down the Grand Canal, take the (currently 1 euro) PeopleMover to the Cruise ship terminal, ride a gondola, or walk over a small bridge to the Hotel Olimpia which can be readily […] seen- no searching back streets - it's RIGHT THERE! The English-speaking staff was very friendly and helpful. As we checked in, I asked if there was coffee in the room. They don't come with coffee, but the desk person went over to a room behind the bar and produced a tray with a hot water pot, instant coffee, tea, etc and handed it to me so I could take to the room (complimentary). The elevator is small (two people and a suitcase will fill it up) but they will deliver your luggage to your room. Just off the lobby is a dining room where a nice (again complimentary) breakfast (rolls, muffins, cold cereal, meats and cheeses - nothing hot 'cept coffee and tea) is served, a storage room for luggage if you need to leave some things for a few hours after you've checked out, and free internet. We probably had the smallest room they had - I glimpsed larger rooms as I walked around. The quad rooms are good sized, so if you need more room... This is not 4 or 5 star hotel. It IS a good basic room to stash your stuff while you're visiting. I'd highly recommend it and wouldn't even consider staying anywhere else on a Venice visit. Read more

The Olympia is located quite well in Venice with very easy access to buses and other transportation. It is only a block away from the "People Mover", which gives you absolute access to the wharves which dock the cruise ships and have only 1 canal bridge to cross, so your luggage won't have to be lugged too far. :) Also, Venice is a small city (as far […] as walking is concerned), so access to the streets is immediate. There are great maps available in the hotel which will get you anywhere you want to go in the city by foot. They also make good souvenirs, so get two. The hotel itself is quite nice with good decor and a very acceptable breakfast. The rooms are a nice size, not spacious, but usable. Our room overlooked the canal outside the entrance. The noise was not objectionable, even barely noticeable. The windows are easily opened so you can enjoy the outside sites and sounds as you desire. The temperature in the room was easily controlled, though I can't speak to any air conditioning since we visited in late October and it was cool. For those who like them, there is a bidet in the bath. The shower comes without a curtain, so shower carefully. The shower/tub is not at all cramped, something I've noted as a problem across Europe, so this was a plus for me. All in all, I found the Olympia a good resting place while visiting one of the most memorable places in Europe. I highly recommend it. Read more
