The girls behind reception were so friendly and helpful, and the hotel was well placed for the motorcycle museum (but my ancient satnav had problems finding it even though we could see it!) I did find that the walls were very thin in my room and I could hear every word of next door's conversation.

Stayed for 1 night when attending a concert in the LG Arena. Impressed with the quality of the room and with the hotel in general. Probably the best value for money hotel I've ever stayed in. if booking the hotel due attending show / concert at the NEC it is not within walking distance but the hotel will book you a taxi very cheap at £5. Note retuern taxi can only be obtained by either walking to the train station or taxi stand near the station. would reccommend to anyone good all round service and cleanliness.

Me and my boyfriend booked the holiday inn express as we were going to the gadget show at the nec arena. We were giving the wrong room i booked us a double room and we were given a twin room with single beds! The cooked breakfast is ridiculous sausage egg and beans is all they had or stale tasting cereal! The hotel is in the middle of no where it is […] a 30 min walk to the arena. Not sure why they charge parking, its not exactly in the city center. Ok airport is close but they know who is staying and who is flying. I stayed in December and there was no charge. I did email them before arriving when I realised I would be charged. Email was ignored. Later I emailed the same email address for an receipt and hey presto I got a response. […] . Wasn't happy about paying it. Being a priority customer made no difference. Other things - the childrens sofa bed was not set up when we arrived though they did sort this out very quickly after I popped to reception. The irons they have are awful ours had wires sticking out. Perfect for proximity to NEC but only 1 issue was that hotel courtesy bus was not running to transport guests to NEC or airport and staff did not appear to know why not.

The room was small but comfortable and contained everything needed for a short stay, I found the staff very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was not so good, everything was cold or luke warm and the ingredients of a poor standard, for instance watered down orange juice and a cheap brand of coffee.

Stayed here for an event at NEC. The hotel is a good 20 minute walk from the NEC and there are stretches with no footpaths. When I arrived on a Saturday afternoon there was no sign of any shuttle buses either. First impressions of the room were good too but various other issues came to light which let it down. TV speaker had a problem - very muffled sound. Several cracked tiles on bathroom floor. Room heater was fully on but the room remained chilly all night ( and it wasn't that cold outside). Also noticed next morning that previous residents had been smoking in this and adjacent rooms and chucking their butts out the window where they still lay on the adjacent roof in various states of decomposition - nice. We arrived off our flight from Aberdeen to find that we had to get a taxi to the hotel, the receptionist was cheery & friendly and suggested we leave our bag and our room would be ready later in the day. We then headed back to the NEC (in another taxi!) to go and see the show we'd travelled for but had a few hours to kill before it started. After the […] show we had to get yet another taxi back to the hotel, I think that with all the to-ing & fro-ing in hindsight we should have stayed at another hotel like the Crowne Plaza or the Novotel which ARE both walking distance to both the airport and the NEC. This was a treat for my 5 year old Daughter to go and see Disney on Ice but she didn't seem to mind and found it all rather exciting! The room was clean & comfortable and the restaurant next door was a bonus. The evening staff on Reception weren't as welcoming or friendly as the 1st member of staff we'd met earlier in the day, quite the opposite actually. hotel was comfortable and clean, most of the staff were friendly and helpful, close to nec. Only negative was the shuttle was £2.oo per person, after spending just over two hundred pounds for a two night stay I would have expected this be part of the booking.

I was really looking forward to spending the start of my birthday weekend in Birmingham NEC, I quickly found out that I would have much rather driven the 2.5 hour journey straight home after the concert as this particular hotel was a shambles. The room was okay, provided with sufficient amenities to have a restless sleep. I was very disappointed that […] there was only one available plug socket for me to charge and to have it used on a kettle that couldn't hold water in, let alone boil was a mystery. I could over look that as it was only a one night stay, it was the morning that really shocked me. I had gone down into the breakfast hall at 10am to have a hot breakfast ahead of my journey back, and was told to wait for 10 minutes for some fresh hot food to come out, which I understood. But then when new food came out I was shown a plateful of half burnt sausages, and the member of staff tell me "What you see, is what you get.". I nearly hit him for misleading me to believe i could have breakfast and for being so rude!I had waited 45 minutes for nothing, and had to leave on an empty stomach. I was told there was no delivery in, but surely as a hotel you would know that you were going to be housing hundreds of guests each day? So shouldn't they really have orders come in every morning? I'm not asking for much, but a can of beans can keep for a couple of weeks, eggs last a while, and you can freeze sausages, so being told there wasn't a delivery, I find truly hard to believe! The overall stay was good, however on my confirmation it was noted that the room included a bath with over head shower. This didn't turn out to be the case it only had a shower. We enjoyed a very reasonably priced evening meal in the bar area and I have to say that it was lovely. The only moan that I can think of is that the orange juice at breakfast was fairly poor and well watered down but apart from that - very enjoyable.
