Expect a small room (this seems to be normal for Scotland. Stayed at two other hotels and they were all pretty small). It wasn't great but it wasn't awful either. The hotel is in a great location close to Haymarket station and lots of stores, bars and conveniences in the area. The breakfast was legendary however you must order the breakfast at time of check in to ensure that you receive the discounted rate (and pay for it). The rooms are nice and clean, the building itself is a little old and hallways are a bit run down. The elevators are somewhat claustrophobic. The staff are friendly and helpful. Its location is not very close to the center of town, but since my wife and I are fond of walking we enjoyed its location.

Considering this Hilton is in an older building it was alright. The staff was very helpful with whatever I needed. The restaurant has a decent selection and portions were adequate. Fantastic front of house service , friendly and very helpful. It then goes downhill very fast from there. I was given a disabled room (room 21) with low bathroom facilities, the bathroom itself was absolutely freezing and had no curtains at the windows. Not great. Location is fine, though not ideal. Edinburgh is compact, so you can make do. The amenities of the hotel and standard of rooms is really poor given the star rating. I was shunted into an annex building, which has no restaurant, bar etc. The rooms were rather tired and shabby, shockingly small, no minibar, no complimentary water - and interestingly […] no TV control, so I had to request a set. Bathroom fittings were loose, bits of the shower fell off as I used it. Bath products were not replaced day after day, and there was only the one towel - really poor. In addition, someone turned the radiator off while cleaning, so after a day out I returned on a February evening to a freezing cold room. Really not what you expect from a Hilton hotel. Poor. The main issue we had with this hotel was the cleanliness and upkeep of the room. When we entered our room it had quite a strong odour of a dead mouse. I looked under the bed and noticed that it was completely filthy and there was also an empty wine bottle that hadn't been removed. The main light in the room wasn't working, and none of the staff noticed or replaced it throughout our stay. Also there was no central heating in the room. There was only an electric heater which wasn't strong enough to warm the big room, and neither was the additional portable heater provided.

This is not a good place to go if you are looking for someplace handicapped accessible! There are stairs up to the main entrance, and I did not see another main route in. Likewise, getting to the rooms usually will require stairs. We were on the "ground floor" but had to take a flight of 7 or 8 stairs down to our room. It was inconvenient enough with […] my 60-pound suitcase; if you are in a wheelchair, this is probably not a good choice. The fact that wifi was an additional fee on top of the room charge was ridiculous; we went down the street to a café and used their (free!) wifi when we needed it rather than pay the ridiculous rates at the hotel. The hotel was in good repair in the main areas, but when we got into the corridor we discovered several fire doors that were broken and would get stuck open. We are still somewhat confused as to why we did not receive any washcloths in our whole room! We searched everywhere and there were none. Be prepared that if you go for one of the lower-priced rooms, you will likely be underground. When we returned from dinner, we discovered that there was a very large, very bright orange floodlight directly outside our window. Fortunately, the drapes in our room were lined to block the light, and it didn't disturb our sleep. But it was still rather obnoxious; the floodlight was being used to illuminate the façade of the Hilton, so clearly it was something that they had control over and could have placed better to be less of an annoyance. I have to start by saying that the reception staff were very nice, efficient and helpful. This proved to be the single factor that was positive about our stay there, other than location. The room was dirty in every aspect, with dust everywhere, an unvacuumed carpet, unwiped bathroom tiles and tile edging hidden under a layer of filth. The beds were […] uncomfortable and ill made, and noisy enough to disturb sleep. The recent (hopefully ongoing) refurbishment was evident as work was not finished on the stairways and corridors. The room decor/layout itself was ok, but did not feel safe- there was a very large gap under the door, and the spy hole was falling off. Breakfast was not well organised, there was a wait to be seated in the frankly insufficient dining room, and the food was cold when we did get it. One redeeming factor was freshly cooked eggs from chef on duty. The location was the only reason we booked this hotel, and having been there once, we'd happily walk further next time rather than return. The Hilton Edinburgh Grosvenor hotel is ideally situated round the corner from Haymarket Station the only downside is the tram works, but once you manage to navigate round the road works everything is fine, also there are plenty of bar's and restuarants in the area.

Whilst the public parts of the Hotel were very nice our room was tiny and involved climbing over the bed to get out one side, previous hilton experience have been far better than this offering and I think we would stay elsewhere next time.
