Convenient location for the tube lines and for Kensington Gardens & Hyde Park. Lots of restaurants in the area. Good breakfast at the hotel. My room overlooked a private park/square. Helpful staff.

This hotel was a steal at $50. But I wouldn't pay much more. The rooms were small, even for London (and I've lived in many tiny spaces, but this was quite absurd). The rooms were a bit dingy, the carpet was gross, the bed was a little old, the walls were cracked. There was only a single electrical outlet in the entire room and also just a space heater […] plugged into it. So one had to choose between the heater or a mobile phone charger. Good location, two blocks from Bayswater Tube station. Room was clean and functional although the hotel itself seemed very tired and in desparate need of a renovation. Bathroom was separate from the room itself (I did have exclusive use of it though) but it was very cramped and some of the fixtures were falling off.

My stay here was fine. And really, that's all I expect. The bed was OK, (my back didn't go out#, check-in/out was good, the people seemed nice. It was quite clean around the hotel from what I saw. The rooms are small by US standards, but not bad by London standards. I don't think I would necessarily go on my honeymoon here #though there were a couple […] on the floor below who seemed to be#, but overall, it was a nice stay. Do be aware that some of the rooms have private bath facilities that are not ensuite. You have your own private door key but, you have to leave the bed room. DO NOT LEAVE YOUR KEY BEHIND WHEN YOU GO, OR LEAVE IT IN THE BATHROOM WHEN YOU ARE DONE #LOL#. I didn't, but going down to reception for a new key at 2 in the morning in your jammies #or worse) does not appeal. Of course, you can just not book these rooms... A lot of people like to get all dramatic with these reviews, I know. If you are like that, you will probably find something wrong wherever you go. Better stick with 4/5 star hotels. But if you want to save some money and aren't expecting the anything but a clean room and a pleasant stay while you explore London, the Pembridge Palace will suffice nicely. I do wish they would improve the wi-fi situation. Installing a free local system would be a great "value added" proposition. The area (Bayswater) is nice with easy tube access and some decent restaurants, local stores and even a small shoping center. Read more

Considering the old beds, the small room, the simple breakfast with a fake juice, I think the price could be a little cheaper. One thing that really need changes is the luggage storage, they just let all the bags on the lobby and anyone can take it.

There were two major problems. First, the television worked on only a single channel. And after I asked the nice folks at the front desk to have it fixed, someone evidently came while I was out and simply left the television on, tuned to that single channel, without so much as an explanation. The hotel’s Web site boasts both “cable television service” […] and “satellite television service.” I had neither. Second was the fact that the ceiling of my bathroom began to leak in the middle of the night Saturday night, so loudly that it actually woke me up. When I went down to the front desk, thinking that someone in the room above might even be in some trouble, the sleepy fellow at the front desk insisted that it must be due to the early departure of a couple in “Room 414,” who he knew to be leaving (and presumably showering) at that early time, and that it should soon stop. It did not. In fact, the ceiling continued to leak heavily all night long, such that the bathroom was not safely usable the next morning. Simply put, I did not receive full value for the price paid during those two nights, far from it. And I expected the hotel to make a considerable adjustment in the form of a credit to my credit card account if it expects me to not dispute that charge when the bill arrives -- let alone if I am ever to stay there again on my yearly visits to London (I hold a fellowship at University College London) as I had intended in the future. The door to my room opened onto a steep staircase, meaning I had to lug my luggage up and down a flight of steps. The space within the room itself was minuscule. The reception desk's instructions on getting to the Underground were both perfunctory and hard to understand. One good point: The room was quiet.

Every time I asked something regarding any service, I feel as though the hotel staff gave me an enormous attitude. In addition the internet I paid £7 a day for didn't even work. In addition on more than one occasion I found hair belonging to someone else in the towels. The room was extremely tiny. It had room for a twin bed and a chair, but barely […] more than that. For those with more luggage, this may be a problem as there really isn't any place to put your belongings, so they can't do much of a cleaning job. Not much of a continental breakfast, as I am not particularly a fan of orange-rind juice. In many aspects, the hotel was as expected. The room I got was a tiny balcony they had placed a bed on. It was freezing as there were no working radiator. The toilet was one story above the room and the shower yet another story above. There are a lot of hotels in the area. Choose any of those instead.

This hotel is nicely located at the circle line. It seems that many school classes stay there which guarantees a high noise level throughout the night. The breakfast is the same every day but overall okay - if you don't expect some famous English breakfast. I would rather recommend the place to young people.

This was a great place to stay if you're not looking for an ultra-plush, fancy pants hotel. The breakfast each morning was more than sufficient (cereal, hard boiled eggs, cheese, juices, coffee, toast, jams, etc...) - and the staff was incredibly efficient at refilling all of the empties. The hotel itself (past the reception area) looks like any other […] slightly older hotel you would expect. There are cracks in the walls in some places, but it's not scary or even dirty feeling. The other posts about how "dirty the carpets are" or how there are "cracks in the bathroom tile" are exaggerated. The carpets can't be clean. It's London. It rains. People have dirty shoes. The housekeeping staff does a tremendous job of keeping all the rooms and common areas very clean, providing fresh towels, and general upkeep. The hotel was a 5-10 minute walk to two tube stations (Bayswater and Queensway), which made getting around incredibly convenient. Also in the same distance were a number of restaurants, shops, a mall, a grocery store or two, a drug store, banks, etc. All located in one convenient area. You couldn't ask for a better location. This hotel was much lower quality that we expected. We chose it for the location, and were on a tight budget. We almost changed hotels after arriving. It is basically a youth hostel. It is clean and good for budget tourism, but don't consider it for a business trip or a romantic weekend in London.

the breakfast is just very basic. Quite far from the center. Only 2 electricity slots, one of them is near the floor, which is totally uncomfortable. Probably it is possible to have slightly better for this price. Bad Wi-Fi coverage, Wi-Fi costs additional payment. The rooms are kept clean.

I don't understand why this hotel has such bad reviews. My room was nice and a nice clean bathroom. It's literally like a 5 minute walk to the underground, and lots of good ethnic restaurants.
