"Close to everything"
Loved the hotel and the staff was fabulous. Very close to everything. Great location. As others have stated, the only negative is the small bathroom but it is a historic district. I would stay there again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Great location....close to everythingGenuine Hotels.com guest review
My boys loved the loft setup and we enjoyed the comfy pillows and separate living room area. The bathroom was tight, but it worked for just one night.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
For the price, the "suite" we had left something to be desired. It was basically two standard rooms stacked on each other. With the space taken up by the staircase, it was smaller than it would have been if the rooms were adjacent.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"3rd time and will continue"
This is the 3rd time my 2 friends and myself have chosen a Double Tree and it will not be the last. The hotel has always been clean, beautiful in decor, accomodating and the staff very pleasant.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Bad time with hotel reservations and issues in roo"
It was awful. WE were not registered in rooms we asked for. WE had not heat in hour room the first night and about froze. The bathtub was stopped up and would not drain. I have to send my friend up to the 5th floor for a room when were supposed to have adjoining rooms. The first night we all had to sleep in one room with two beds. And freeze. The hotels […] breakfasts are overpriced - should be free when you are paying $319 for one room. No one even offered a free night for the problems in room 153. I won't stay they again for sure. convenient or not. Vallet car at 22 is expensive and then you charge tax and money for the cops. The people at the desk and in the dining room were fairly nice and informative I have certainly lived and learned on this one. On by the way the toilet ran over in the second room 564 after we got our other family settled in there. Came home to a bathroom full of water. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
While in Charleston, we really liked our room accommodations and enjoyed the restaurant (Hank's). Charleston was an awesome place to visit. So much history and entertainment. We will be back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
It's ok for downtown but I could hear entire conversations through the walls. The person might as well be in the room with you. Rooms are small but I get that- it is downtown.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Always a pleasure"
The DoubleTree in downtown Charleston is in the heart of downtown. It's right off the market to it's located next to everything. No need to drive, just walk! The hotel staff allowed early check in and upgraded our King room to a King suite for free! When you are staying downtown most places will charge a fee for the parking. This hotel is no exception […] however for the convenience of not having to worry with a car and where to park it's worth it! There was quite a bit of construction taking place the night we stopped in (only stopped in for an overnight trip on the way to Seabrook Island). Due to this a lot of the normal parking was taken by trucks and blocked off so the valet parking was a mind ease! This is the 2nd time we have stayed at the DoubleTree and we just may stay again! The room was nice but the bedroom area was smaller than expected. We could barely fit the crib. The pullout mattress was horrible and we ended up squeezing in with the three kids in the room. Our sink would not turn off but the repairman was quick to respond to fix the problem. Soaps and hair products were wonderful. Right next to outdoor market and […] close to restaurants. Front desk was very helpful and quick to respond to requests like extra blankets. We could hear other guests in the hall at 3:30 in the morning. Parking was an additional $25 but we could not park there because if our rooftop carrier. We paid $30 across the street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Hotel Stay in Charleston SC."
After we siged up to stay at the hotel, additional parking cost of 22.00 per day was not mentioned. I know parking is tough there but should be known. The hotel said they upgraded us but they gave us a room that was different than we booked, we booked up and downstairs, they gave us 1 floor. It had a window on the street floor and you can hear people. The […] couch was unconfortable small room and bathroom. After talking to people they said certain things would be open, after we walked to the location we found out they were closed. We decided after several places were closed we would leave early from the hotel than they said they would charge us 50% for the last day without staying. What a gift. Overall we would stay away from the market area in the future and save money and have a better room... Christmas was nice no matter.....Better get all the information ahead of time, whats open, where to eat, any hidden costs, don't believe in what people say until you see it and know it. The staff was the nice but the hotel was average for a high cost. Look around at other hotels before you stay here. the breakfast in the morning was average and cost of 14.00 per person.....Outside was a place called T Bones was good. And go to Dixie Cafe for breakfast....To many people asking and giving out fliers and than you have sort of time share if you come to listen to their story...You get some free stuff.. This hotel is in a prime location for those looking to be in the middle of the action. Easy to walk and enjoy the historic downtown Charleston scene. The hotel itself is good, with very spacious, clean rooms and suites. However, it might be due for some remodeling.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"I really expected more from the Double Tree"
Our room was very outdated. The pull out couch should have been on a hillbilly's porch not in a 4 star hotel costing so much per night. The staff was good, the lobby was not impressive, though I don't care much about that. No free internet?? Really, in todays age that is ridiculous. "In the heart of the excitement"
I found this to be an excellent hotel and very convenient to all the sights, sounds, and flavors of Charleston. You could not have asked for a better location. I stayed in a suite at the Doubletree and felt like I was in my own private condo. It was quiet, clean, and very comfortable. One of the most comfortable beds I have enjoyed in a hotel. "Queen Anne front and Mary Ann behind"
It must be said that we got the last available reservation for our date and arrived so late in the evening as to probably get the last-issued room. I hope our experience was not typical but an unusual circumstance. Beautiful old-style hotel with a more recent conference center annex. We got the annex, accessed by walking through the dining room and […] then through an outdoor court. The conference center has NO architectural identity at all. The room was nicely appointed, large, clean, and the bed and TV were both wonderful. The wlls are paper thin and we heard people talking in the hallways until very late. The bathtub would not hold water so my wife's anticipated bath was an impossibility. The bathroom, while huge, had no hooks or shelves near the tub/shower so where to hang your towel for the shower-exit? Minor inconvenience but so easy to fix in a place used only for sleep and shower. The hotels.com price was $100 off the $368 rack rate but every Comfort Inn and similar hotel we have stayed in was quieter, with working plumbing, and convenient bathroom appurtenances, for under $100. Our "splurge" to be in the Historic District of Charleston in an historic and interesting, even romantic, hotel was a costly mistake. The ad said free parking was available - and it is - on the street somewhere but expect to pay $22/night plus valet tip. I would try it again but always ask which building the room is in and get the parking bait switched to reality when booking. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice Hotel very Convenient to everything we wanted"
Despite hearing that local Charlestonians did not like cruise ship visitors, we stayed a few extra days after our cruise to see Charleston. We had never been there and wanted to take some tours, and see the history. For our purposes, DoubleTree was a great location. The staff went over and above what I would deem expected. We had no problems, but while […] I was waiting in the lobby, I overheard them assisting others. We arrived very early before the rooms would be ready, which we knew we would do ahead of time, but wanted to park our car and start seeing the city. They offered to call us when a room became available. A two-level suite became available first, opposed to a one level suite, and looking back I would probably change my mind about accepting it, just because of arthritis pain in climbing and decending the stairs. But the room was lovely. I enjoyed the sink and coffee and living space below. And you just cannot beat DoubleTrees beds. For the price, and downtown Charleston is pricey anyway, but it was our 20th anniversary so we were splurging, I sort of expected a larger bathroom. The sink and mirror were outside of the bathroom. Any smaller, and the shower area would have been cramped and uncomfortable. It was fine, though, just the way it was. And the housekeeper was truly a joy, too. We'll be back. the hotel is in the perfect location with the Market a half block away. The only issue was that the bathroom is small and there is almost no space in the bedroom since the beds take up most. Can't even have a suitcase open in them. Sitting area is comfortable. Also, the cable was not working very well.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"wonderful but chincy-have to pay for wi-fi...cheap"
great place, great location. The fact that you pay $230 for a room, wi-fi should be a free thing, and the fact that they charge $10/daily is extremely CHEAPGenuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is centrally located and ideal for getting around. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The hotel needs updating. The sofa was worn and old in the sitting room and the room could use an overall re-do.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great spot & location"
Stayed one night September of 2013. My husband and I drove from Philadelpha to Orlando so it was a great midway point. There are a ton of great restaurants and a outdoor markeplace during the day. "Lack of amenities, poor customer service"
For the price you pay for this hotel (roughly $220 per night), you get absolutely nothing in return. You get no internet (you pay ~ $9 per day for internet services), no valet parking included, and no complementary breakfast. I understand that this hotel is in the heart of the district, and the location should be the ONLY thing you pay for, however, […] most of the hotels around the same area will provide you with some of those above mentioned amenities. There is a days inn hotel that is roughly 3 min of a walk away from this hotel that provides all of the above, AND provides pet services for roughly $50-$70 cheaper. Also, when we first checked in, the staff member told my wife and I that valet services were included in our package, and couldn't tell us the price due to the deal we made through expedia. This was completely false, as valet services were clearly explained to me at check out to be ~ $23 per day. When I stated the issue with our check in the staff member told me that we may have misunderstood the other staff member about what exactly she was saying regarding the price for valet. REALLY??? Highly recommend against staying here!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

Outside of the great location right by the Market Square and horse drawn carriage rides, the hotel rooms was fair. The toilet leaked water all over a very crammed bathroom. Needs a bit updating. Otherwise, the suite was fine, staff was great and breakfast was adequate.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel Location in Charleston"
The hotel is located close to all the shopping and a good deal of touristy stuff. It is clean, and the staff is very friendly, helpful and courteous. It was clean, and the showers were roomy and comfortble. "Perfect for an overnighter"
My daughter and I drove down from G'vlle, SC for an overnight stay as we had family in town and wanted to go as they had never been. We usually stay over on Mt. Pleasant but for one night we stayed in town. I'm glad we picked this hotel as it is right there, in the middle of everything. We walked all day, night, and the next day before leaving. I don't […] like that all places deem it necessary to charge 22.00 to park, but they have you over a barrel don't they? The hotel was really nice, and very clean. "Terrible customer service"
I was doing a southern road trip with my best friend. Charleston was next on our agenda. We had been so happy with the trip so far. We arrived at the hotel at about 2pm. Valet was confusing as there was no sign and valets were not around. At front desk our room wasn't ready until 4. I understand check-in wasn't until 4 anyway, but staff was rude and […] somewhat cold. When we did get in the room it was beautiful but the hotel layout was very confusing. They had redone an old building in the back and this is were the room was located. The old building had a terrible smell and seemed dirty. When we went to the concierge to purchase a tour he seemed more concerned with his dinner plans over his cell phone rather than helping us. When retrieving our car to drive to the beach the valet was rude and short. When handing me my keys he held out his other hand waiting for the tip. To top all of this off, when we did check out I noticed $2 on my bill for the Charleston police department fund. Now this is only $2 and I have no problem giving to the police department but to not even ask and to add this to my bill... Once I brought this to front desk she responded with a ,"yeah yeah," and removed it. Makes me think how many people don't check there receipts. I'm sure there are good workers but the staff that we encountered was rude and seemed to be annoyed to be bothered with customers. I will never stay at this hotel again and would suggest to everyone to choose another place to stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
This was not my first stay in Charleston but it was my first time staying at The Double Tree. I was impressed with the level of service. The valet/ bell hops do an great job. "would think twice about using a double tree again."
Would think twice about choosing a double tree again. The lack there of cold water was a problem! And the room we had was next to the elevator and you could hear it every time it was in use! Upon check out we were never asked how our stay was.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
We always enjoy Charleston..the Market st. area is too crowded for us, but the hotel was within walking distance to all we wanted. My only complaint with the hotel is the lighting in the rooms. I don't mind the low lighting except in the bathroom/vanity area. Ladies would really like to be able to see when putting on make-up. I understand the "energy […] factor", but really...can't you put some decent light in the bath area? Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Double tree stated in add suite, with beautiful pictures. Very small. Actually a refurbished motel is what it felt like. Definitely not luxury . Bathroom very small. Just not what I expected.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The hotel is in a great location in the historic district of Charleston. It is close to the market and walking distance to great restaurants. I reserved a mini-suite thinking that we would have extra room. The room that they gave me was a bi-level suite. Sounds good but it was a loft. This room design made the room even smaller. What made it worse was […] the air conditioning was on the bottom floor and it would not cool the upper level. I asked for another room but it was not available. This is not the room that they showed on line. The staff were extremely nice and helpful. It is not their fault, this is a very poor design room for this hotel. Well, their hot cookies makes up for a lot of wrong. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great location and value in downtown Charleston."
Seasoned traveler to Charleston, first time at Doubletree. Liked the location most. Very easy to come back to the room to drop off bags or make a quick change. Staff was friendly. Valet was handy. Wished the rooms were a little bigger but it made us get out and enjoy the city more. Would stay here again.Genuine Expedia guest review
I was not impressed with the staff. We requested and were given a late checkout (only one hour after regular checkout) and the maids were loudly complaining about us in the hallway. The front desk was fairly rude about it when we talked to them about the late checkout. I have stayed in other Doubletrees and this one was nowhere near as nice. The room […] was a bi-level suite, but it was cramped and awkwardly laid out. The location of the hotel was perfect, but I definitely wouldn't stay there again.
