The Inn at Penn, A Hilton Hotel - Philadelphia

I took the train to Philadelphia (30th st station) and the train station was only about a 3 minute drive to the hotel. It was beautiful out when I arrived so I decided to walk, it took about 20-30 minutes. The hotel is right on the campus of Penn State. There are little restaurants and fast food restaurants surrounding. I didn't have a car but noticed […] they had valet parking only. Staff was very polite. Quick check in. The room was beautiful. Very clean, comfortable bed. I loved the iPad and the idea of using the room key for the power switch. The only thing was I couldn't seem to get the room at the perfect temperature, it was either too cold or too warm but that is the only con I can think of. Since I am an active Penn alum, I stay at the Inn of Penn a few times per year. At my last stay, I checked my bags with the bell captain as I was leaving the hotel after checkout time. When I left the hotel, the bags were put in the trunk of my car. Fortunately, I had several other meetings to attend before I left campus as the bell captain had put […] someone else's bag in my car and kept mine. The Inn manager called me and left a message for me on my cell phone so I drove there and made the switch before leaving campus. I had 8 rooms reserved which confirmed numerous times through the week.We arrived at 3:30 PM. ALL of the rooms were not ready. We had to wait 40 minutes and finally negotiate on getting ONE room to bring our bags. We returned at 6:10 PM. Were finally checked in, BUT alas NO KEYS were available. We had to have a security guard let us into our rooms. […] However with no key, there is no electrical power available. Thus we had to have our group shower with no power (lights, hairdryers, etc). And one of the rooms was not opened for us for another 30 minutes. The check-in process was a nightmare. They did apologize numerous times and realized this was a very poor welcome& process for me and our group. In addition their ability to welcome a bus and have a plan of action was even worse, the valet personnel did not want to deal with the bus, it appeared since they would not be getting a gratuity they just had a plan for us to park the bus 3 MILES AWAY!!!!, 3 miles, and then have to take a taxi. There were many more options available but they just didn't help us at all. the city Police were able to make accommodations for our bus NOT the hotel personnel. Very disappointing way to handle this on top of the rooming situation. Yet the hotel property is top notch, however, they were not prepared and we were not treated upon arrival as this was a 4 star property. We were actually just looking for a convenient location near the World Cafe Live venue for a concert Saturday night. Initially I looked at a couple cheaper locations but Hotels.com found this gem just a few blocks from the event site. The hotel is beautiful, no doubt. As I'm sure has been mentioned, its not really "downtown" Philly but the area is nice! We took the Amtrak in to Philly and walked there in 10-15 minutes so points for it being in a convenient location for people using public transit! TV was awesome. Room service was ok, not very good food to be honest (we all know […] Room Service is pricey!) and unfortunately they didn't have a few of the items advertised. They had to call the room a couple times to confirm our order. Toiletries were nice, very good smelling :) The bathroom itself had no tub but the shower was fine. This is a nice hotel. The "living room" off the lobby is warm and inviting. Room was fine. Only problem was noisy neighbors but they moved us to a different floor and gave us free breakfast for the next day!

Front desk staff let me check into my room hours earlier than usual (my train got in at 4:30AM and I was at the hotel at 5:30AM, by 6 they had the room ready and waiting so I could take a quick nap before heading off for the day). Area nearby was cool and happening. Easy walk from 30th street station.

I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone. I think it was the absolute best overall customer service oriented hotel I have ever stayed in. Everyone was VERY friendly and helpful. I was skeptical (and am about most hotels) but this was a good hotel. They must have recently done some renovations to both the rooms and the main lobby area because it looked great in there. The hotel and Rooms are excellent. Very quiet with a great staff. Unfortunately, there are few opportunities for early morning coffee or anything else. The breakfast buffet is excellent and the wait staff are equally excellent, however, any opportunity for anything earlier than 6:30 AM and 7:00 AM on the weekends are impossible. The TV was not operating properly. I called and was told an"engineer" would be right there. NO ONE showed up.The door to the bathroom was very heavy and difficult to slide from one side to the other. On the plus side, the young men who were the car valets were most helpful.

Beautiful hotel (a lot of craftman details), the main entrance is a little hard to find because of the small one-way street. The neighborhood parking is crazy, between the cabs and people checking in and out, not for someone that values their car. But if you're visiting UPenn, perfect spot, you're in the middle of their campus.
