We had a nice stay at the Dayton Grand. The rooms were clean and roomy. Service was good. Staff were efficient and friendly. Checked in in about two minutes and on our way.

Hotel is historic which I appreciated but would be very difficult to navigate for a elderly or disabled guest. Hotel does not have a restaurant and the complimentary breakfast was minimal at best.

AC did not work throughout the entire hotel. Rooms were HOT!!!! while the hallways were cool. Guests had to sleep with door open. Mini fridge taken out from location. Remote for TV broken and could not change channel on TV. Elevators are OLD and Noisy.

The room was just beautiful. We had 2 double beds and both were more than comfortable to sleep on. The room was extremely clean and the decor made our stay even more relaxing. The ice machines were a bit inconveniently located. The heated indoor pool made our stay even more enjoyable.

We had to wait 2 hours to check in. This was at 4 pm.... We weren't early. Pool was out of order. Air/ heat in room did not work. Shower did not drain. Elevators would not work all the time. No valet parking and the garage was not connected.... So we parked on 6 th floor then had to walk down steps with our stuff.... Then enter hotel and get on elevator […] that would hopefully stop on our floor. I felt bad for the staff that works there:( oh and the continental breakfast was toast, cereal, and a few pastries. Swimming pool was closed. Potters in garage had broken, sharp edges to snag clothing. Headboard precariously mounted to wall - fell at slightest touch. Hotel smelled like the cheap cherry spray that low quality auto detailers fumigate your car with after cleaning it. For $60 per night i would have expected this. For $130 I was pretty disappointed.

Here's my experience... I specifically selected this location because they listed on on-site restaurant. I arrived to the hotel about 9pm for check-in looking for a bite to eat, a beer, and a bed. The restaurant was closed for the night, so I relucantly trudged down the street to one of three open places - Unos, Spaghetti Warehouse, or a burger joint […] that I was told by staff not to go to because it was in a terrible location ("the ghetto") which was only a few blocks away... lovely. Food was terrible, so if you expect to arrive late, skip that, and eat before you get there. The room and hotel were fine - clean with a comfortable bed. Walls are terribly thin as with most older hotels - I was woken up several times in the night by slamming doors. In the morning, I went to use the in-room coffee maker (which is always a gamble) and it was full of rancid water. Okay, skip that, and into the shower...Low water pressure, so don't expect to get blasted by water for your morning wake-up. Downstairs for breakfast - the "full" buffet I was told my the front desk staff turned out to be white bread and other assorted boxed pastries. Okay, skip that. Next time I'm in town.... I think I'll skip this place and find another. Read more

Room was very clean, but you can tell that they need to invest in room renovation. The bath fixtures were very very small - I'm not kidding - a child-sized commode and a mini sized tub! This would have been fine as they were very clean, but the TP holder was a mere six inches off the floor! There was an obvious spot for a chair complete with floor lamp, […] but no chair! Most annoying is that when we left for a show the heater seemed to be working, but when we returned only cold air came out. We finally gave up and turned it off completely. On the plus side the room was a comfortable temp when we woke up in the morning. The location was great; withing walking distance of The Loft Theater, the Victoria Theater, & the Schuster Center. This was a hotel that has seen better days, but was clean and well-kept. I chose this hotel over others because of the indoor pool and breakfast. When I arrived I learned the pool was closed due to mechanical reasons (staff offered a pass to a nearby YMCA, but it was closed for the evening) and staff responsible for breakfast the next morning failed […] to show up for work (I was offered a box of cereal, the desk staff claimed she could access nothing else). The staff was apologetic and professional, but I was disappointed in my stay. I will write a letter to management and will give this hotel a second chance. Room not ready upon 6pm arrival, then got a double instead of King, Then got King and room as so hot you couldn't breathe, changed again, got room it had no remote, then Spa jets as broke, then went to have a drink in there 40 guets capacity bar/rest. one bartender serving food one by one to party of 11 while we waited and waited and waited, took one […] guy 45 min to be served. The breakfast was very basic. The hot tub was nice and steamy. The only real problem we had was the temperature of our room. It was a balmy 86 degrees. The hotel had free parking and was conveniently close to the Oregon District where we went out.

When we arrived the room we were given had not been cleaned yet. I called down to the front desk and they fixed the problem right away. They had new room keys ready for us when I got back to the front desk. The new room was much bigger than our original room and had a beautiful bay window with a view of the street and court house. I would agree the […] parking garage was small but my husband navigated it quite easily. There are stairs at the back of the garage so other comments about having to walk the ramps are incorrect. The free continental breakfast was small so we stopped at Tony Horton's on our way out of town. We didn't get a chance to use the pool because my son's swim trunks were too small which was disappointing because I read the view was amazing. Also, there were complaints about and being accessible from the parking garage which worried some guests. This entrance locks down from 11 pm to I believe 6 am unless you have a room key so I felt much safer. Aside from our original room not being clean (which was a frequent complaint on here) I thought the hotel was very nice and comfortable, especially for such a good price. We've stayed in lots of different hotels and I would say this hotel can compare to some of the older hotels you would find in downtown Chicago. With a few small updates to the furniture and televisions it would be a very modern place to stay. If we go back to Dayton we will definitely be staying here. Read more

Do not stay here ever. No elevator at parking, get ready to hoof. No air in November, if you open a window you will have noise, smoke and no sleep. Ceiling leaked water had to move to another room. New room had a broken bed. I repeat do not stay here you will not be happy. This hotel needs complete revamping of everything!

We reserved a double, non smoking room and much to our surprise it turned out to be a lot more spacious than we expected. While the bed was a bit uncomfortable, overall we were quite happy with the place. The indoor, heated pool was phenomenal. The hotel's parking garage fills up quickly and we had to park on the street. This might have been an issue […] had the street parking not been free on weekends. The neighboring parking garages, according to the hotel, aren't safe and parking there might result in your car being towed. The neighborhood was a ghost town on Sunday and there aren't any eateries in the vicinity except for the restaurant in the hotel itself. The overall condition of the hotel was nice. However, I had requested a King Smoking room when I reserved the room online, and when we checked into the room it had two double beds instead. We tried to get the room changed but there was nothing available. Also, the air conditioner in the room did not work. If you have a desire to see the smallest bathroom ever, this is the hotel for you. The floor space in the bathroom is barely larger than a bathmat! The heat/AC unit didn't work, so the room was uncomfortably warm. On the flip side - the room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and there was plenty of pillows.

When we came back to the hotel after our event there was no parking left in garage so we had to park on the street. Also sometime after 3 in the morning there was a very loud major disturbance from another guest that took about 20 minutes to get resolved.

The girl at the front desk told me that she would have maintenance look at it. When I returned, I was told maintenance didn't need to look at it because it was working. They said the reason that it was […] hot in my room was because they had the boiler on the previous day and when the boiler was one they can't have air conditioning and vice a versa. Also, I was on the twelth floor and that it would take a day or two for it to cool down! We did not even stay the second night that I had booked and paid for. Downtown Dayton is economically depressed and blighted. This hotel at one time was probably pretty nice. The room was spacious and it was clean; but the interior of the room was dated in that the wallpaper, drapes, carpet were a little worn. The bathroom was small but updated. Our room was very noisy; the elevator and ice machine ran all night long. […] There was a parking garage that was very tight and the stairwell down was a bit frightening. The staff was nice; but when we asked if there was a nice sports bar in the downtown area no one at the front desk could give us an answer and finally said we should head out to the suburbs....that recommendation in itself tells you about the area. We were visiting UD for parent's weekend; it was close and there were many families from UD staying at this location.
