So many hotels seem to forget about female guests - what was great here was that the room had an iron & ironing board & a proper magnifying mirror in the bathroom. Also good: wireless internet, airconditioning & kettle with complimentary coffee, etc. Staff were helpful & refunded some of the wireless access charge because of the problems I'd had connecting in my room - without my asking for the refund. The decor was a little tired but that's a minor complaint. It's walking distance of main shopping streets & some of the sights. I'd certainly stay here again.

There was one very negative review from an Irish visitor that was very unfair in every respect. Some people are impossible to please, therefore I would recommend this hotel to anyone as the location was so convienent to the theatre and the shopping, the service was first class, the staff very helpful and overall we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

I would say the hotel is on the verge of some TLC and minor updating. I wouldn't say the hotel is tired, but its always in the detail and those details are letting them down, and the same for their guests.

Reviewed by Kathryn of Philadelphia on Nov 4, 2009

We stayed for one night at O'Callaghan Stephens Green hotel, and were quite pleased with the hotel. Our room was in the newly-renovated section of the hotel and couldn't have been nicer. Amenities included tea service, flat screen television with audio output to en suite bathroom, very spacious bathroom with large walk-in rain shower, and a king-sized bed with crisp white linens. We were very disappointed to discover that wireless internet access was available only for an additional fee and, although we flipped the rooms indicator light to "Do Not Disturb," housekeeping staff inadvertently entered the room as we were dressing in the morning. Also, the artwork displayed on the walls of the hallways leading to our room was somewhat questionable as far as taste goes- the artist was clearly working with a detailed female anatomical inspiration. Those points aside, we enjoyed our stay and the easy access to Grafton Street and St. Stephens Green. Reception staff were friendly and more than happy to check our luggage while we toured the city the morning after our stay. I would note that the non-renovated wing of the hotel did not look nearly as nice and smelled quite smoky, so ask for one of the refurbished rooms if you plan to stay at this hotel.

Our stay at O'Callaghans Stephens Green was quite nice. While some areas of the hotel could use a little update, overall it is a good choice. It is very convenient to the Grafton St. & Temple Bar areas so we were easily able to walk everywhere we wanted to go. The staff was able to accommodate our early arrival, always a bonus when landing at 7AM. The staff was also helpful with any requests we made. They serve a full breakfast and have an attractive bar/restaurant as well as the breakfast area. I would definitely recommend this hotel to others.

The hotel is perfectly located within a three minute walk to Dublin's "High Street", where all the action is day and night. The hotel sits on a corner that is difficult to find because the name is not posted as a traditional hotel on the outside; it is behind a glass fascade. The staff was very helpful in all regards, especially with directions and overall hospitality--one was very humorous as my cousin almost fell as he walked into the lobby and cracked a joke with him as he walked in...it just made for good atmosphere. As for the room: it was clean and a good size, what you would expect from a hotel in the US, not typical of the UK unless you pay top dollar. The coffee maker was nice, the trouser press was clean and in good order, the beds were comfortable but could have used an extra pillow. My only concern was with the "crispness" of the bathroom...meaning, it just needed a bit of a makeover. For example, the caulking was a bit old in certain areas and the toilet was aging a bit. Other than that, things were great. I would stay there again with no issues! As for the WiFi, they charge. I believe 3 euros for two hours and the rates change depending on the block of time you choose; the work desk was large enough to do work on. Guinness Brewery is only one mile away--a 20 minute walk or so.

The staff were quick, responsive and allowed us to check into our decent-sized room by 9.30am which was excellent as we were only doing a short break and were carrying our luggage. Check-out was also simple and hassle free. They also offered to hold our baggage during the last day but we didn't bother as we were visiting Kilmainham Gaol. At all times there was a member of staff on duty and in many cases there were two. I didn't bother with the restaurant but it looked clean. You can get the "Hop On Hop Off" Bus Tour from Stephen's Green and it's a short walk up Grafton Street to Trinity College, Temple Bar and the River Liffey. Hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. Room was spacious and comfortable. Our room was at the front of the hotel. With the windows open there was traffic noise but this was stopped by closing the windows. Bathroom was large and well fitted. Breakfast was good value for Dublin with a full buffet (including juices, cereals, fruit, pastries, eggs, bacon, tomato, black pudding, sausage, beans, mushrooms and toast)for Euros 11.95. An earlier review said this was expensive - but other places were more expensive and less good. Having stayed at several Dublin hotels over the years on business trips, I would thoroughly recommend this hotel as quiet, comfortable, friendly and centrally located.

The bathroom smelt musty. The soap dish was dangerously hanging off the shower wall, one touch and it was off with two very large screws attached. Lift the hairdryer from the bathroom wall and the hose came out of the unit so it was unusable. The shower curtain could not be positioned to stop the shower water flooding the floor. The bedroom size and furniture was fine. The road was too noisy to have the window open at night. Iron and ironing board was useful, tea and coffee making facilities in the room. Fridge (or empty minibar!). Overall, dissapointing. Certainly nothing boutiquey about this hotel.

I can't imagine a better location in Dublin. It's walking distance to almost everything, including wonderful restaurants and major tourist sites (St. Patrick's, Christ Church,Trinity College, Temple Bar) and great shopping. We stayed in a new section of the hotel--and the first room we got had an ever-running toilet. As it wasn't fixed at the end of the day, we were moved to a similar room. The room was very quiet and comfortable. The only negative about the hotel is the breakfast--way over priced and not very good. Just a bit down St. Stephens Green is an Insomnia coffee shop that has fantastic coffee and tea--and raspberry scones. Try it instead of the hotel breakfast.

The O'Callaghan St. Stephens Green is close to everything, but just outside of the crowds. One block away is Camden Road, which has numerous little cafes, grocery stores and pubs, where you could actually meet a real irishman. It combines convenience with an escape from the craziness of Temple Bar and Grafton Street. The manager could not be more accomodating. The rooms are large, and at the rear have a nice view of the distant mountains. It was very quiet, a rare commodity in downtown Dublin hotels. Yet is one block from Grafton Street.

Hotel was great for our trip just as it said on trip advisor. We stayed for 2 nights and it was a super base for everything that one should do in Dublin. Staff were helpful locating places on maps for us. Very clean. We did not eat breakfast there (since it was not included in our package) or use the bar facilities as we wanted to be out and about. Had to buy internet time which worked with no problems. Would be nice if they had a nice big sweet smelling flower arrangement on the reception desk to make it more welcoming as you step into the lobby from the street. It has great potential but is missing this feature. Also grey curtains in the room were not very attractive although bedspread and other furnishings were bright and welcoming. Same with corridor carpets, but don't let this deter you from staying here, it was really a great base to see Dublin and comfortable. Particularly like what looked like a new shower curtain - spotless!

We picked this hotel on the basis of location and it certainly delivered in that regard. But don't expect any help or assistance or even a smile from the front desk staff. On three separate occasions, they gave us incorrect directions and information -- the worst was that they couldn't even give us the pick-up location for the bus to the airport. The printed map at the desk was even wrong. If you know Dublin and want the location, the rooms are fine and the location (a block fron Grafton street) is excellent.

A friend and I stayed here for one night. The staff on reception were excellent, friendly and efficient. The room was OK. There was no soap in the bathroom and the shower temperature gauge was not working. You had to turn the control to a high temperature to get the water to cool down. It took a while to figure this out. Otherwise good as very powerful water pressure. We ordered room service breakfast which, although a little expensive, was excellent and worth it. I would stay there again but it would not be my first choice. That said, the location is very great.

Great location - easy to get everywhere - and a great value. The staff was extremely helpful with great recommendations and directions. The rooms have internet access via the TV (with a keyboard) for about 4 Euros a day if you want to bypass the business center. We ate one dinner at the hotel and the food was reasonable and tasty. The staff gave us wonderful recommendations for breakfast, pub grub and fine dining. I would have preferred nicer bed linens and pillows, but that is a very minor complaint. The front desk staff could not have been better, and I'd stay here again.

We choose this hotel on our first trip to Dublin because other reviewers had commented on the excellent location (in the midst of everthing, easy walking to locations, quiet neighborhood) and the size of the bathrooms (large rooms, easy to use showers, etc - not the typical European type of timy bathroom). Our expectations were exceeded. Upon check in, we were upgraded to a larger room with king-size bed (we were hoping at best for double bed), very large bathroom with great shower, hot water. This was the most quiet hotel I have ever stayed at. We stayed 5 nights and only heard people in the hallway for 5 minutes one night (two women - no rowdy kids). It wasn't because no one was staying there, as the hotel was busy in the lobby and in the very nice bar downstairs. The location was perfect for walking all over Dublin. Definitely recommend this and would stay here again. Excellent value.

I stayed here for a conference held at the Royal College of Surgeons. It was clean and modern. The staff were very polite. The location was excellent as it was only 2 minutes walk from the my venue and only 5 minutes walk from grafton street. The only downside was the traffic outside was very noisy late at night (taxis etc) and the breakfast was a prohibitive £16.00 for full breakfast (I chose to eat my own in my room and as there was a fridge this was fine!).

Considering the price we paid it was a great stay. Perfect location on a beautiful park, easy to get public transportation and near a stop for the airport shuttle (8 euros)and the hop off/hop on buses. Easy walk to Trinity college. Beautiful room with a huge bed and nice bathroom. The only problem was we could hear the street below the first night, but when my husband discovered a vent that could be closed on the window, it was very quiet the next night. The staff should have told us about that. There was a free computer downstairs with internet, a teapot with everything you need in the room, and most of the staff were friendly. We couldn't find a good place for dinner but there was a great literary pub nearby with a really good live Irish band.
