I likely would not recommend this hotel, not because it was a bad experience, but only because we found nothing outstanding about it. The location was perfect for a meeting my husband had and because of the proximity to Rose Street. Staff were curteous but the least friendly of the nine hotels/B&B's we stayed at in our trip to Scotland. Our stay at […] The Roxburghe was second to last in our itinerary, so we had a lot to compare with. The concierge was noticibly absent the two times we wanted some assistance and the reception desk was bombarded with guests so I didn't ask there. Our classic double room was dark, and the bed small and uncomfortable. There is a charge for wifi, no where else did we have a charge. Upon checkin we were told the charge for breakfast but that there was a discount if we made reservations then. He pressed us to make the reservation and we had to finally very firmly say no thank you. It would have been about $50 when there are many places within a block or two for a reasonably priced breakfast. Complimentary toiletries were quite lacking, again compared to the eight other places we stayed. The water temperature in the shower fluctuated, so be careful. We had no help with our luggage upon checkout and had to drag our cases, including golf clubs, down the front stairs and down the block to hail a taxi. Read more

Mold in the bathroom was the only thing that kept this stay from being great. I asked the desk to have it tended to, but that never happened in our 3 day stay. Very disappointing but that was the only bad thing I have to say.

Checked in and asked to be moved to another room with a bigger window - no problem. Staff was curtious. Room was clean. Great location. On- site parking is not good. Bus or taxi to the hotel from the airport Taxi about 20€ bus 3€.

Wonderful service, comfortable rooms, great location. Although most of this hotel's clientele probably arrive by taxi, the bus from the airport to Edinburgh city centre stops just a block away from the hotel at Charlotte Square. Also one of the open-air tour buses stops across the square, and tickets are good for 24 hours (or more if you buy a multi-day). […] Our only mild complaint: no washcloths! Read more

We arrived directly from the airport after taking the bus in the rain and were greeted kindly by Lester. He was charming and immediately took our wet bags as we checked in. Because we had pre-paid for our room on Hotels.com, the process was very quick. They did offer an add-on breakfast for 10 pounds (I think it was) daily if we pre-paid or 15 pounds […] if we wanted to pay each day. We opted not to dine at the hotel and instead chose to grab breakfast on the go through Edinburgh. Lester was waiting at our room with our bags, gave us a quick run down of how the heater and heated towel rack worked, and then was off. He returned with 2 robes and sets of slippers. I am not sure if that is part of the usual routine at this hotel or if it was because I gave him 4 or 5 pounds for bringing up our baggage. I understand that in the UK, tipping is not as prevalent as in the US. I felt odd not tipping while I was traveling, so I did it anyhow. Everyone, including cab drivers, seemed very grateful. I didn't get the impression that I was insulting anyone, so I kept doing it. I loved that our room had a decent selection of tea and some shortbread in the room. Having a warm cup of tea was comforting after being in the rain. The only slight complaint I might have about our room is that the window faced Rose St (a small alleyway type area) behind the hotel and at night, the noise did carry into our room. It wasn't often enough to be a nuisance, just enough to notice. We checked in on January1st. I'm not certain if there were more or less people out and about because of the holidays since I have never been to Scotland, I'm sure though that some of the noise is normal for people leaving the pubs down that street. Everything seemed walkable from our hotel. We tackled the castle and the Royal Mile along with some shopping. Comparing London, Edinburgh, and Dublin, Edinburgh was our favorite. Excellent location, although getting there can be slightly difficult as the address is actually Charlotte Square! The hotel is comfortable and the staff were extremely polite and approachable. We enjoyed our recent stay at the Roxburghe, ideal location just at the end of Princess Street and Rose Street. The staff were very friendly and the room and hotel amenities were very good. We will be returning to this hotel when we visit Edinburgh in the future.

Hotel overall was nice, but a little pricey considering breakfast wasn't included. Our room was nice but we were unable to close the window as catch broken. Drinks very expensive, which we expected in city hotel hotel, however £12.60 is steep for 2 coffees and a Bacardi and coke!

The room was nice but when we returned from the restaurant that evening we could not sleep as the room was located directly above a wetherspoons pub. The hotel was welcoming and relaxing, with comfortable rooms. The only negative was that each morning, we were awoken by the sound of workmen outside our room, which we had not been warned about at booking or arrival and which began at 8am each day. Otherwise, the bar, room and spa facilities were excellent.

We recently enjoyed a wonderful weekend in this very nice hotel. The staff were excellent and the facilities great, not to mention the fantastic location, just off Rose street and Princes street! Ideal for shopping trip to centre of Edinburgh. Some parking available under the hotel at extra cost - plenty room in Jan but might struggle in the busier months. Great common areas and staff very friendly and helpful. Excellent breakfast also at extra cost. Very comfortable bed although the room we had was a little tired looking in places.

The Roxburghe is a rambling, charming property. More money needs to be spent on infrastructure (lift slow, pool area basic), The current refurbishment is changing the character of the property from (rather tired) townhouse hotel to boutique hotel, and doing so very well. Our recently refurbished room looked tremendous and was comfortable, but lacked […] storage, mini-bar and bathroom products are basic. Note that one set of rooms, third floor street front, have skylights with little view, blame Scottish heritage not the Hotel. They are still nice. None of the little failings really matter though, the staff are tremendous and the whole experience of staying has great charm. We would happily stay again. Read more

Fantastic location, ticked all the boxes in terms of our requirements. We ate in the restaurant one night which was superb food, from a varied menu and good attentive service. Staff fantastic, very welcoming and helpful. Breakfast had a good selection and well prepared. Our room was on the third floor and hence had a sloping ceiliing due to the Roof. This meant that one of us had to crouch to get around the bed and the room was quite small. Had a wardrobe but lacked shelves for unpacking cothes. Have stayed at this hotel many times, great location hotel has undergone some improvements to the main reception which gives a good first impression since previous visit. we have stayed in this hotel twice now last year we had a lovely room overlooking the square, this year I booked it as a surprise for my husbands birthday and when we arrived at the hotel asked the concierge if we could have a similar room to last year, He went further than that and gave us our own suite which was fantastic and a lovely surprise it […] made it feel so special. All the staff were so friendly and attentive we ate in the hotel one evening and the food was lovely, We had breakfast both days the only small niggle I have is when you sit down to breakfast the waiter and waitress take your order for the cooked meal and before you can eat cereal or porridge the hot food is put down in front of you I think they should wait until you are ready as the food gets cold plus there is not enough room on the table.
