"Decent hotel near Love Field"
Hotel has easy access to I-35 and nearby Medical District and Love Field. Good appearance from outside, lobby is also inviting and attractive. Surrounding area is the Empire Central neighborhood, which is a bit sketchy; there are strip clubs and related businesses in the immediate vicinity (XTC nightclub is next door to Wingate). Hotel room was spacious […] and mostly clean, though there were a couple of sticky stains from gum or other material remaining in the carpet (I blame the guests more than the hotel staff) and the bathroom had some hair on the floor and sink. Room seemed to stay rather warm despite moderate temperature outside, but thankfully climate control was responsive and functional. Breakfast options were a bit limited, but appreciated. Mattress was comfortable, though the pillows were small squares and a little stale. Sheets were in good condition but even the lightest sheet set on the bed ran on the warm/hot side, but I just adjusted the air conditioner. Staff were all friendly and helpful. The room I got via Hotels.com was Rm 201 which is on the end of the building next to busy I35E thus was noisey. Otherwise this is a fine hotel. "Dissatisfied, and I never leave bad reviews!"
Before we booked, we called Wingate to ask if they offered a shuttle to Dallas Market Center on the days of our stay, Thursday through Sunday. They said yes. This is why we booked with them, as we had no other transportation. On Thursday, we signed up for the Friday shuttle with no problem. On Friday, we asked if we could sign up for the Saturday shuttle, […] and the desk clerk said to call back later in the day as the sign up form would be out that afternoon. When we called later, the manager said they do NOT offer a shuttle on the weekend. We told him that the person we talked to before booking said there was a shuttle available on our days. We also told him what the desk clerk told us earlier. He said we were at fault for not knowing the policy. He also said the policy was on their website. However, we never had reason to go to their website as we booked through hotels.com. We reminded the manager that we did call to confirm and was told there was a shuttle for our stay, and he said he can't help that we didn't look at the website. We told him we needed to cancel our reservation to find a hotel that could get us to the Market Center, and he refused to offer us a refund for that night since it was past checkout time. We would have happily checked out on time to get the refund if ANYONE had told us the truth about the shuttle. The manager was not friendly, apologetic, or helpful. Just stayed overnight before a flight out of Dallas Love the next day. Chose the hotel because of the rate and included Wi-Fi and breakfast. Normally when I stay and rate The Wyndham, I usually give high mamarks. I am not this time for the following reasons: 1) We reserved a NON-SMOKING ROOM (as my receipt shows) and was given a SMOKING room. *I did not being it to the hotel's attention because if the desk attendant was doing his job correctly, he would have confirmed the type of room I […] had reserved. 2) Housekeepers DID NOT CHANGE MY BED SHEETS AND WE WERE TREATED LIKE THE BAD GUY!! Look, if it's not specified and housekeepers "clean" the room, it should naturally include changing the bed sheets...UNLESS SPECIFIED, which we did not. When these 2 incidents occur, bad hotel ratings result. This is the ONLY HOTEL we stay in when we are in Dallas and we always recommend this hotel to family, friends & co-workers. "Avoid this hotel."
We will not stay here again. Multiple issues, extreme smell of bleach or ammonia when I checked in, had to sleep with the window open. Front desk had me check out another room and it was equally as bad. Bathroom floor, when exiting the shower with wet feet, the floor appeared to have extreme soap residue on the floor, like it hadn't been rinsed in months. […] After a shower I walked across the room from the bathroom to the bed and back. My feet felt almost sticky. I wiped them off with a wash cloth and the wash cloth cam back black. The phone next to the bed had not telephone cord to the wall The electric cord had been ripped in two. Took it to the front desk who said they would get another in 20 to 30 minutes, Never showed. Reminded the front desk the next morning to no avail. Asked for a wake up call, didn't happen. 30 minutes after the wake up call was supposed to take place, the front desk knocked on my door as my wake up call.
