I don't usually rate hotels but I thought I should do this one....first they weren't sure our room was ready after 4:00 with an actual 3:00 check in time...not too bad. However, I noticed a couple towels were dirty ( like someone cleaned dust off their shoes or something and hung them back up) which made me wonder about the whole room. Furnishings were […] a little warn/ stained. It just wasn't what I expected for a Marriott property. Maybe I was just too critical after the towel thing. I guess they are also doing some remodeling so that may be why we had a little trouble finding the check in desk. They gentleman behind the desk was super nice! Most likely wont stay again even though the location is good. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Exterior is GOOD, Interior is OK, Staff are BAD"
I think the title of my review summarizes everything. The grounds are kept neat. The room is tolerable, but needs renovation. The staff particularly the evening/grave yard shift staff who watches TV and eat his meals at the front desk is beyond rude. Picture this, a grumpy bearded man with his legs up who can't be bothered for anything. FYI If you don't […] bring your own laptop you'll be using the one computer they have right by the entrance door where everyone can see your business. They have a small outdoor pool and fitness room that doesn't look too inviting. You'll have to settle for cold cereals and bananas for breakfast (don't expect anything else). "Covenient and a bargain"
Overall the property was a great value. provided a clean room, some amenities (pool), and convenient to all roads, shopping and restaurants. Gat hotel for a stopping off point or a hub for travel to Portland.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice hotel close enough to the beach"
spent three nights with my daughters in their hotel studio suite. It was always quiet and a friendly atmosphere. I would stay with them againGenuine Expedia guest review
The room was great: clean, comfortable, great amenities. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful too.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
My only complaint was there was no wifi in my room- access yes- but only local access and no internet. I complained about it twice- nothing changed. Since I was in Portland for business, this was a must. Good thing I had a broadband card with me or I would have checked out the first night.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very spacious and clean"
We arrived late to check in which was no problem. Found the room to be both very clean and spacious. Fiancee thought there wasn't enough sheets on the bed considering how cold it was outside but the room itself was kept very warm so no complaint there either. The one thing I did take a star off for was purely down to the breakfast. If you went in to […] grab some breakfast there was no one there to even point you in the right direction as to where you might find something to eat. A small complaint and really the only one I can make. As I said the room was spacious and very clean. Location would have been excellent for r shopping had we been there for that. Room was clean and comfortable. Appliances were dated. TV was new.Genuine Expedia guest review
Pleasant stay. Staff was courteous and the room was clean.Genuine Expedia guest review
You need wireless internet. The wired connection was not good. You need a bigger lobby area. Need a place to lounge and relax. Breakfast needs more selections. Smoking area needs to be moved further from the pool. When the sign says no animals allowed, that should be enforced, it was not. We asked for a king and got a queen.Genuine Expedia guest review
"So many hotels, stay somewhere else."
This hotel is centrally located near the Maine Mall. But with all the other options around I would recommend staying somewhere else. Our non-smoking room had clearly been a smoking room at some point. The room smelled like stale cigarettes and the bathroom vanity had burn marks all over it. Our "suite" was really a small hotel room with a small kitchen […] in it. Not the extended stay suites we are used to. The continental breakfast ends at 9:00 am. This is fine if you are in town for business but if you are on vacation that is too early to end breakfast. One morning we made our way down to breakfast only to find a sad assortment of yogurt floating in ice water and a basket of wrapped gas station muffins. Clearly not worth getting out of bed early. When we were checking out we were asked how was our stay to which I replied "Well it could have been better" the gentleman behind the counter just looked at me and continued the check out process. He was clearly not concerned that our stay was lacking. I would have complained but the only hotel staff we encountered looked like high school freshman and I doubt I would have gotten far. We come to Portland often and will not be staying here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

Nice comfortable room except kitchen appliances were old which might make cooking a meal harder.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Portland TownePlace Suites"
Checking was easy once they found my reservation. The room was very clean. The 'free breakfast' was a bit odd in that there was no place to eat. The front desk recommended that we take the food back to our room. Breakfast was limited to cereal that was hard to get out of the bin, some fruit and yogurt. It was very limited and was a pain to take the […] food to the other building where our room was. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Very impressed with cleanliness and service. A quiet room with lots of amenities, close to all major shopping. Not impressed with the complimentary breakfast, but better than most.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

Suited us as we just playing golf in the areaGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Enjoyed our stay. Comfy bed, clean bathroom and fully equiped kitchen. Supermarket right across the street. Centrally located too which was great, about 40 minutes to Kittery, not even 10 minutes to Old Orchard Beach and only about 20 minutes to Freeport.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Très déçu de Marriott."
En arrivant dans la chambre, il y avait une odeur désagréable. Il n'y avait qu'un seul miroir dans la salle de bain. De plus, quelques éléments disponibles dans la salle de bain avait déjà été utilisés (crème et shampoing). Enfin, le lit était tout simplement inutilisable. Il était tellement mou, que lorsque l'autre personne bougeait, l'autre risquait […] d'être projetté par terre. Vraiment pas à la hauteur de la chaîne Marriott. "Portland TownePlace Suites by Marriott"
"Satisfied with our stay"
08/18/14 Nancy B Dublin, Ohio, United States
This hotel is not the most up-to-date version of TownePlace locations but we were happy with it. Staff was good; service and cleanliness me our expectations. We did laundry there as well without hassle. The parking was also fine. Other than not being new it was consistent for the brand
"Great place to stay for a get away"
Stay here for 6 nights, for a girls get away, had a corner suite, it was perfect. Two separate rooms plus sleeper sofa. Having the small kitchen with frigerator was great. Room was very clean, we had no issues, office and house keeping staff was very friendly and helpful. The only thing was if you are looking for a place with a full breakfast they don't have it here. Which was fine with us as we were happy with the fruit and yougurt. There are plenty of restaurants nearby that serve breakfast. If you like cheese you must visit the cheese Iron.. we did not use the pool, which there was several families using it.. they seem to be enjoying it with no complaints. It is a great place and very friendly staff. I would stay here again.
"Very satisfied with our stay."
08/12/14 Mary S Richmond, Virginia
We booked this room on a last minute notice and was happy to be able to use an award and not have to pay $240, which was the going rate. Every thing in Portland was sold out and then this hotel and the Residence Inn next door, followed suit. For the rate, I would have been dissatisfied because the hotel is in need of some cosmetic repairs and the breakfast area is not like some of the other Marriott properties. But people, it is a TownePlace Suites, not a Residence Inn, so the expectations shouldn't be as high to start with. The staff is very friendly and we were fine with the accommodations. It was clean and comfortable and even though we didn't use the kitchen, it was well laid out. Not too many hotels have a stove/oven set up, usually just a stove top. I would stay here again when we are visiting but would book in advance to get a better rate. Also, get a room that does not overlook the pool, as the kids were quite noisy. There are two buildings of rooms and I would also suggest trying to get a room in the building containing the main office, which is where breakfast is served.
"Poor value for the money: dated & disappointing"
08/04/14 santacruzer_95060 Santa Cruz, California
I've stayed in TownePlace hotels before, so I thought this would be comparable. Nope. The rooms were dated, and the bed was among the squishiest and least comfortable I've ever slept in - no back support whatsoever. The in-room decor was dated, and the TV was placed so it wasn't possible to get it at the right angle for either the couch or the bed. We were expecting the hotel to be suburban (several miles from downtown Portland), but there were no restaurants in walking distance, just a supermarket a quarter mile away. We ate at an excellent brewpub adjacent to three other hotels a mile away; we should have stayed at one of them rather than here. The buffet breakfast was free, and worth what we paid: it was mediocre too, with very little choice of food and (maybe) one hot option - if there was one, it had meat, making it impossible for us to eat. At least they had four kinds of cereal to choose from. This wouldn't have been so bad if we got a great deal for the room, but it was one of the more expensive rooms on our trip. There's no excuse for a hotel to charge so much for a mediocre room like this. My recommendation: don't think of staying here if you have a choice.
"Kitchenette is good size with large fridge"
07/30/14 Wagandsmile Atlanta, Georgia
Stayed here one night. The breakfast bar was not as good as many in the Marriott chain. The kitchenette in the room was ample, we only used the fridge which was a generous size. The staff were friendly. They were short handed for the breakfast so things were a bit unorganized. Things seemed clean but the rooms looked like they are ready for some updating. This hotel is about 4 miles from the airport in a business park, commercial area.
07/20/14 Michael R Machias, Maine
I booked this room as an Express Deal from Priceline. It was a little more than I had planned on spending, but I also got more of a room. After reading the reviews it seemed like hit or miss with this place. I will the staff was welcoming and the place clean. That's all I ask for. It was a suite for one night and well worth cost for this area.
"Best Value and Stay in Southern Maine"
07/11/14 John T Endicott, New York
My wife and I stayed at the Towne Place Suites located in Scarborough, Maine for a nine days relaxation trip in June of 2014. We wanted a very clean and comfortable room with a healthy breakfast, an out door swimming pool, exercise room and a safe place to walk. The kitchen is great, as you can cook, prepare foods and eat healthy. We found it at this location! An additional bonus was the accommodating staff. The property manager, Janet was always pleasant and accommodating and like all of the other staff members were always extremely friendly. We are returning in August with our daughter and her family which includes two young children. This will be our third stay at this location. We think that this is the best value for our money in the Scarborough, Old Orchard Beach, and Portland area. The newly constructed breakfast room provides a great place to start your day, The newspaper provides a method of keeping up to date with the surrounding locations. Brooke, Peter and Janet are great greeters whenever you enter the lobby.
"Good choice for family stay"
07/10/14 BTFeedback New York City, New York
This is a good place to stay for 2 couples or a family of 4 or 5. The room I stayed in did not have the same size bedrooms and the beds were full-size. It had 3 flat panel TVs, 1 in each bedroom and 1 in the living room which is pretty convenient which allows most to watch whatever channels. There is a full kitchen, however, I didn't cook any meals and just used the refrigerator for keeping drinks cold. I just have several complaints about the room. The housekeeping needs to do a better job of vacuuming and cleaning. There was an unopened bottle of OJ and other various items underneath the bed in one of the room. The ceiling light in my bedroom had a noisy humming that was a loud enough that I left it off and used the table lamp instead. There were not enough towels left in the room. If there are 2 bedrooms, would it not make sense to leave at least 4 towels? In addition, there were no extra toilet tissue left inside the bathroom. IIRC, I have seen extra toilet tissues from all of my past hotel stays. My wife found 2 small insects on the same bedsheet on 2 different days. The bathroom sink is in need of drain cleaning as the water was draining slowly. This is usually one of the most over-looked maintenance issue in a lot of hotels. Outside of the room, I have found 1 big issue. There is a small area next to the utility room where the hotel staff have stored garbage bags. I find this to be unacceptable and a hotel should always discard garbage bags right away and never leave any inside of the hotel overnight. Even though this place allows pets, I have not noticed any pet odors so I'm not sure if it is because housekeeping does a very good job or there are designated rooms for pet owners. The breakfast is very basic which includes bagels, cereal, oatmeal, granola bars, yogurt, boiled eggs, packaged muffins. The drinks included coffee, tea, hot chocolate, milk, apple and orange juice. There are a few tables which you can sit and eat or use the tray to take it back to your room. There are quite a few restaurants that are a short driving distance where you can go for breakfast, lunch or dinner. For those who plan to cook, there is Sam's Club and Shaw's across from the hotel as well as Walmart which is a short drive away. The last thing I want to inform the readers, it was a little difficult to find the Check-in Office as it was not as clear nor was there a large sign. This hotel is actually divided into 2 separate buildings. If you're arriving here, go to the left set of buildings and look for the swimming pool and this is where you will find the entrance to the Check-in Office.
"Convenient and close to a great brew pub!"
07/09/14 belizejo Queensbury, New York
As soon as I walked in, after a long day of being seasick and not eating on the Yarmouth Ferry, Peter greeted me in the lobby with immediate service and attention to detail! He checked us in really fast and pointed us to the greatest brewpub within a mile down the road. The room is a little dated, but clean and convenient to the interstate. Full kitchen if you needed it too. Looked really filled up, had to park in the back to find a place. Better make a reservation :)
"hotel is in need of serious update"
07/04/14 bryan c
staff was amazing, had three issues with my rooms, first room was molding and mildew. The second room had a cat toys all over and smelled of cat. The third room was fine just took awhile to find the correct room. The breakfast is ok, but nothing spectacular.
