My family and I stayed for 2 nights at the Royal Sonesta Boston. We really liked the hotel's overall decor and the staff was very pleasant and helpful. "You get what you pay for"
I thought the hotel was nice and fine. Staff was friendly and although under-renovation was a place that looked comfortable and modern. My wife and I were in boston visiting friends and came back to the hotel around 11pm to sleep. Turns out the headboard of our queen-sized bed and the service elevator were separated by the depth of a 6" wall. I wear […] hearing aids (I'm only 34) and I still couldn't sleep even without them in. When we checked out the next day, I mentioned to the front desk (hoping for a “good-faith” small discount for our inability to sleep the night before) that the service elevator made it impossible to sleep. She was very friendly but assured me that since we booked on hotels.com that the rate I paid resulted in the room I got. No discount. Very matter-of-factly. Literally “this is the room we give people who pay that rate” came out of her mouth. I paid $300 (not including a snack and a drink at their bar) for one night and they had no problem intentionally putting us in a room where you can't sleep. To top it off, I got charged $32 for parking in their lot (again, for one night) for them allowing me to stay there with them. At least here there was a $2 discount from the non-guest fee of $34 to park for one night. Not impressed. Corporate event? Fine. Seems like a nice place. "Promising but interior designer wrecked the view"
The new interior design is aimed to irritate. Fantastic view of the river, but the blinds and sheer curtains blocked it and couldn't be opened more than 1/2 way. Seems like all the good hotels are designing rooms that cover up their views with so may curtains and sharp edged knobs that hurt wet hands. As a result, the lobby area is a mess, and the self-parking garage at the hotel is closed. They were undergoing some renovations while I was there, so some of the areas around the lobby were a little difficult to navigate. The room I had was pretty small, but it was what I booked, a room with one double sized bed. The bathroom was equally small to match, with a standing-only shower for one (maybe a 4'x4' square footprint). Much of the hotel under construction and very noisy. Hallways very cold. Hammering started at 7am-every day. When I showed up at the hotel, the parking garage was under construction and closed. I was told that it was only going to be $34 for parking for my entire stay.
