We were very disappointed with our stay. We tend to always stay @ this chain while we travel and have never experienced anything quite like this hotel. This hotel needs some serious updating. There was not a microwave or fridge in the room, ice machine was not working correctly, elevator was dirty & smelled, it was a struggle getting our luggage through […] the doors while trying to keep them open & the pancake maker was out of order.. It was difficult to find and when we called the front desk staff, the directions were not very clear. She tried, but should have had something written that she could have referred to. Horrible. I booked on-line and paid extra to have a king none smoking and then when I arrived, I was gived a room with two queens. When I complained, they told me since I booked on-line, I had to call the hotel to make sure they actually had a king available. That is simply not true. The next morning I complained again and all they could say was sorry. […] The breakfast was another issue. When I got there at 7am, most of the food was gone, I had to go and ask for them to put more eggs and bacon out which they did in a half hour. Good service, great continental breakfast, rooms face less busy side streets so relatively quiet. Good solid service and room quality as you'd expect for king bed w/comfortable space around lounge chair. No surprises except the high quality of the breakfast and related service.

Was really impressed with the friendly staff, was surprised to see staff outside cleaning the parking lot. But the same can't be said about the carpet in the room very dirty but otherwise clean.

Room was clean, Bed was average, Breakfast was good and had several items to choose from. They had a work station by front desk so we were able to print off boarding pass before we went to airport. Also had information about the area at the hotel.

When checking in the motel wasn't aware that we had a pet so I got a lecture from the front desk clerk who was telling me how I shouldn't reserve rooms with a third part company. This went on for about 20 minutes while checking-in. The mattress in the room I was in was very squeaky and worn down. It wasn't a very comfortable 3 nights of stay.

The new gluten free choices are very much appreciated - hard boiled eggs and Yoplait yogurt are excellent additions to your breakfast. The only suggestion I have would be to leave the grapefruit out of the fruit salad - with the baby boomers getting senior - and almost everyone on cholesterol meds - you can't take cholesterol meds and eat grapefruit […] . . we just picked it out, but a different mix would be better. This Holiday Inn Express is a older Holiday Inn with a newer badge. The eating area is very small and quite congested during breakfast. The rooms are dated and the bed mattresses have never been replaced based on the lumps and bumps one can feel. This hotel needs a complete renovation . . . and soon. We had booked two non-smoking rooms (one King Size bed and one room with two queens) for two nights, but when we arrived they had us in smoking rooms. Due to allergies there was no way we could stay in smoking rooms. The front staff was very helpful to move us into non-smoking rooms, but they were both King size beds. These rooms were very comfortable […] and we slept well. The next day, the hotel staff had to move us to another room due to someone already had the room we stayed in booked (the other room was fine). They moved us to the front, first floor corner room that is located next to the street and a gas station. Extremely noisy all night! Was very disappointed. The breakfast buffet is great! Read more

We've come to expect a certain quality and cleanliness at HI Express - it's not our first stay at this chain and are usually very satisfied. At check-in the staff was unfriendly, making us feel like we were an intrusion. 3 of the 4 lightbulbs in the room were dead & when we called to get more got a "song and dance" for the inconvenience to the staff […] without results, and had to request it again the 2nd night. The staff the 2nd night was more friendly and accommodating and she took care of it right away. Each day the room was not fully stocked and we were short various items despite requests to housekeeping; garbage from the previous guests was evidenced in the room; there was dried doggie-doo in the hallway for several days without cleanup and stepped on a small piece of glass in our room after the 2nd day when we didn't use any glass in the room - evidence it was not vacuumed; note there are no refrigerators or microwaves in each room at this location! There was a spot in the floor that dipped like a broken board under the carpet. Didn't honor our priority club rewards, getting luggage carts took 30 minutes due to such limited availability. The hardest working staff was the lady cooking breakfast, who worked alone with a full house of guests trying to eat in a very limited eating area - doing a fine job keeping it stocked. Housekeeping had to use the one guest elevator because there was no service 'vater. We were extremely disappointed. Don't stay at this location! Read more

The hotel booked us in a Smoking room (which is why I ranked the cleanliness low), though our preference was for Non Smoking. The staff, particularly the cleaning staff, helped us by replacing all of the linens and towels and doing various other things to help the room smell less awful. Over all we were quite satisfied. However, some of the Staff acted as though our being there was an Impediment to them accomplishing their daily duties. It was obvious that the hotel was "converted" from being an older building...it should probably just be demolished and Holiday Inn needs to start over. If you are on the bottom floor....don't plan on getting much sleep as you can hear absolutely every time someone moves above you. It was not the best experience I have had at a Ramada facility. We had cold showers and I was not able to plug in my breathing machine as the outlet did not have the three prong outlet. We had a pool side room and there were children running back and forth on the balcony.

We stayed five nights. The first day we were gone all day and returned to a dirty room. The housekeeper said "they were shorthanded". Nothing fancy at all about this hotel but great for spending a few days in Rapid City. Hotel has good location to get to the sights. Decent neighborhood on the edge of the city. Nice Black Hills Gold outlet practically across the street.
