Holiday Inn Express Wilkes-Barre/Scranton(Airport) - Avoca

Clean, well maintained, very nice staff. Decent room service from adjacent restaurant. Refrigerator and coffee maker in room. The only downsides is that there is no neighborhood -- just the airport.

Convenient location, clean and modern facility, very comfortable stay prior to an early morning flight. Warm cookies and popcorn in the lobby. You can park your car at the hotel instead of the airport parking garage for cheap, and the shuttle will still pick you up when you get back. Will definitely use again the next time I fly out of AVP.

Located in a scary industrial area at the end of an abandoned road. Sink was cracked. Tub had gunk stuck to it. Breakfast was ok. Found used washcloth stuck in the shower curtain.

It was close for where we needed to go, but the hotel itself was average. Rooms were nice enough and clean, and breakfast was great. I won't forget the mildew smell in the elevators though...I think someone put the floor mats in there soaking wet. I think we may have found a nicer hotel for less money though.

Great hotel, very close to airport. They also had 24/7 tea/coffee and popcorn in the lobby. The shuttle to and from the airport was very fast.

I read a lot of bad reviews and usually dismiss them. The bad reviews concerning this hotel were spot on. The lobby and people working the desk were fine. The room, however was not. As soon as we entered the room the water, mold smell was awful. We slept poorly because the rooms walls were so thin. But being as we had a VERY early flight the next morning […] nothing could be done. The proximity to the airport is great. We arrived early in the afternoon, and went in to see if we could check in early and/or if the front desk staff had any recommendations for places to eat. She found a room that was available early (great!) and spent some time going over food options with us (Bobby O's in Dupont was delicious). Very easy access to the airport, and easy access to Pittston, […] which is what we were visiting. Hotel was clean, beds were comfortable and the variety of pillows (firm, soft, down) was really neat. There was a refrigerator in our room, which would be great to store snacks/take out from lunch. We walked over to the restaurant in the parking lot for dinner, and the food was pretty good and the service was great. We were located on the 5th floor and there appeared to be some water damage just off the elevator- wallpaper was peeling off the walls and the entire floor had a bad odor. The mattresses were not firm at all. Easy on/off Route 81 but hotel does not have a lot to offer around it.

The hotel was clean enough... but the beds were awful, the wallpaper was peeling, the outlets in the walls were cracked and the entire place had a moisture problem. Fix your central exhaust system! Again, it was clean ... but it was dated and moist. And the areas by the elevator smelled of mildew.

While the neighborhood is a little industrial, this was a great place to stay for a night. The room and hotel were extremely clean. The gym was a bit beat up but the machines worked so I can't complain too much. I would stay there again if I was passing through town.

I reserved a room with a king size bed for myself, my spouse, and our child. I only did so because Expedia advertised sofa beds for this hotel. Upon checking in I was informed that there were no sofa beds in the hotel, but they did bring us a cot free of charge. Expedia also advertised game consoles, dvd players, and vcrs as being either in the room […] or available. Again, the hotel did not have any of these amenities. Bottom line: you should talk to the people at the hotel before booking through Expedia to be sure you are getting what you expect. The hotel itself was clean. The staff was friendly and helpful. The beds were comfortable. The breakfast wasn't anything special, but it was better than nothing. There are a lot of restaurants, shopping centers, etc. within a short driving distance.
