Nice house as you can see at the photos and rooms are ok but what photos doesn't show is that they only repaired part of the building. Stairs, corridors are more like student rooms feeling. Rooms are fine except for that the ugly fan that sounds like you have lawnmover in your room. I had earplugs but still was noisy, turned it off which caused the […] room to be freezing cold in very short time. No other heating was possible except for the fan. Location is just fine and it's convenient with parking even though they charged extra for it. Service was a bit depressing, like they have seen to many people and wasn't bothered really. This hotel is further north of downtown at the end of Jarvis. The building is old and no elevators, so if you have laggage, be prepared to carry it up the stairs. The breakfast is very basis and after two days of having it, you just dont feel like it.

The good news: Everything works. Clean. Pleasant staff. Convenient location, 1 block from Sherbourne subway station, across from Shoppers DrugMart and NoFrills supermarket 1-2 blocks south, with EggSmart and Tim Hortons nearby for casual dining. 1 subway stop to downtown Yonge and Bloor. This is your 2 1/2 star Expedia secret pick hotel. The disappointment […] was that this historic home for the Gooderham family (founders of original Gooderham distillery), Knights of Columbus, and then the Selby hotel, has been "renovated" to change the cheery bright white, yellow, and gold interiors to a post-modern stark gray-to-black interior decor. Entering the room, which was interior to the back annex, meant little ambient light. The rooms have black wallpaper, black window curtain, black headboard, and black/gray striped carpet. The shower (no bath; open glass panel) was also dark granite. At least the ceiling, doors, and sheets were white! The hallways also have black wallpaper in the annext (and even dining room) -- and overhead "security camera globes". Definitely NOT romantic! Pictures of the nearby Ambassador Hotel (changing to Clarion) also sadly show this black interior theme. Clarion needs a new decorator. The breakfast is a bit narrow, and uses paper/plastic disposables. The phone is by the bed, and not the desk. Other than the bed, furniture is for 1 person, not two. Read more

There is no "free" parking. Was told upon arrival that we would have to pay to park across the street. Was $6 for overnight but you must be out before 7 am. Vending machines were way outdated. Was poorly maintained.

Hotel with great character. Convenient location right across from Sherbourne subway station near Sherbourne & Bloor. Stayed in a suite which was spacious, quiet, 2 good air conditioners, and clean with very serviceable bath. Continental b'fast is adequate to get started. Elevator is 'old world' but then this a mansion from 1892. Directly across street […] is an Eggsmart restaurant...very good for a full cooked b'fast. Supermarket is a block away. Isabella Hotel a block away has outdoor seating area for drinks and food. Daily newspaper. One challenge: sole ice machine is in basement. I was on 4th floor but using the wide staircase provided me lots of exercise. Did use elevator too.Staff very friendly. Really preferred this hotel to a chain hotel. Would be just fine for families. A lot of the rooms look recently renovated and are quite fine. The surrounding area might not look great by daylight, but we felt safe walking around there, even at night. One downside with the hotel, however, is that it is located quite far away from the center of town....

This hotel is average. Not expensive (you may need extra $17 parking fee per night in the hotel lots). Clean room and average front-man. No refregerator in the room. We could go to the center of Tronto by car, but I think a little bit far by walk and the place around the hotel may be not so safe for walking at night.

It was nice. I t was a little out of the way from the places of interest. Subways close at midnight so can't be out too late. it has a quirky elevator. It's inconvenient. The stairs were preferred even though we stayed on the fourth floor. Breakfast did not interest us. All starch.

The Clarion was a short walk from a Bloor St subway stop which made it easy to navigate around the city (I recommend the day pass). The room was small with no view, but it was comfortable and clean.
