"Great area but very slow elevators"
The Sheraton is a nice hotel in a nice area of Clayton, but it feels a bit dated. The staff is very friendly and knowledgeable about the surrounding area. The biggest issue I have is that they have only 2 elevators for 14+ floors and one of them was down for part of my stay, so there were long lines waiting to get on and off and often folks had to wait […] for the next one. The hotel is nice enough and the room was clean, but a few things I did not appreciate when I stayed at this hotel. Firstly, our room was located right outside of the elevator, and it was loud around the clock. People congregated there and made SO much noise into the wee hours of the night. The phrase "you get what you pay for" couldn't be more true. This hotel is OUTDATED and UNCLEAN. The parking garage costs $14 dollars and looks like a thieves playhouse. The "deposit" = $20 and the Wi-Fi is NOT free regardless of what websites imply. My room, corner of the 9th floor, had MULTIPLE dark stains all over the carpet that looked like gum […] mixed with hair dye and was matted in. The room was Motel 6 tiny. A 10' X 10' estimation would be overly generous. The light fixtures were hung loosely. The bed was extremely firm and springy. Think wrestling mat atop a mattress from a pull-out couch. The headboard, which was leather-like was peeling and flaking enough to visibly see the foam behind it. I pulled back a nightstand and saw dust everywhere. Not talking white glove dust, I'm talking about caked on, thick, and dense dead skin cells, dust mites, and dead hair. Respiratory risk?! Wish I had taken pictures! It had a large window but it had old and exposed drill holes and marks as if it was once something there that permanently covered it. The bathroom was beautifully designed but was roughly the same size as the closet!. You nearly had to stand inside the shower to have clearance enough to close the door. I booked it online and of-course it was non-refundable. Needless to say I only stayed ONE night. Sheraton, there needs to be a level of conformity for ALL of your hotels! It was nice to stay in a place that had nice eateries close by that you could walk. Also nice that it wasn't that far from main attractions, yet in a smaller community so that you didn't feel surrounded by a lot of people. "Good location for zoo trip"
We thought the hotel was clean and comfortable just wished the restaurant inside would have been opened earlier then 5 pm for supper. Breakfast buffet was awesome! The shuttle to and from the zoo was a real bonus for our family of eight because we would have had to take 2 cars and paid for parking for both. Bed was comfy with nice pillows and linens. Shower was easily controllable with lots of water pressure. Staff was very friendly and the shuttle service was available at a moment's notice. We stayed at this hotel during our trip to the NCAA tournament. Its located within a reasonable distance from downtown. Overall the hotel was very good. It was clean comfortable and what I would expect. Our room was not ready when we tried to check in about 3:45pm, however the had it ready in about 30 minutes. The one thing I do not like about this hotel is all of their charges to use amenities that are usually included. 15.00 for parking, 9.00 per day per device for internet, 4.00 for a bottle of Fiji water. I do business in Clayton, MO so I've stayed here a few times when the rate is just too good. Initial reaction upon walking into lobby is good. Once you've stayed a few times you start to realize it's understaffed, not as clean as it should be, etc. In addition, for some reason every time I visit, the hotel is full of late night revelers who slam doors, […] yell, run down the halls, etc. All at 3 am. "Problems with reservation"
My reservation was prepared but I had to argue that I was supposed to get free parking. After scanning through my hotels.com email I found the area that said "free parking." Then I also had to ask for my free breakfast voucher, which I later had to ask for another because I reserved the hotel room for two adults. The person that checked me in was from […] another country and I could barely understand what he was saying due to the thickness of his accent. This hotel had a great holiday rate and I'm so glad we booked here! There was a package for parking, internet, and hotel breakfast coupon for a very tasty breakfast at the lobby restaurant. We needed a place to stay while visiting relatives. The location was good for us, and the price was very reasonable especially compared to hotels close by. This hotel seems to be used a lot for business, but it was great for us, too. The gym was small but well done. The inside pool area was amazing.
