She and I love the hotel, especially the staff's friendly way of interacting with her, their skill in suggesting nearby restaurants a child might like--the othe day they recommened a Thai place that she loved--and the great courtesy they always treat me […] with. Because the rooms are not air-conditioned, and because last week they could have used it, my room, despite the ceiling fan and the open window, never cooled down at night. My room had it's own bathroom but some, I guess don't, anyway at 6am each morning some person coma in to the communal bathroom located next to my room and began hacking up a storm. Beware. Generally seems like a good hotel.

I've stayed in the Hotel Durant several times, largely because of its proximity to the UCB campus, where I have meetings. On this most recent stay our room was immediately next to the graduate room which was great because of the continental breakfast; however, the noise level was pretty high during the evenings. The downside was that the room was EXTREMELY hot. There was no heat on; it was simply from solar exposure in January! This place is historic and retains some of its charm, but the (first) room we had, was so noisy we could hear--nearly verbatim--the conversation of the folks next door. The room we were moved to was significantly better (perhaps no one was in the room next door?).

Loved it! They upgraded our room on arrival because it was slow period, so we were on the VIP floor which probably made our stay nicer. The hotel is interesting and original. Parking was easy. Staff excellent!

By no stretch of the imagination is the Durant a great hotel. The rooms are dated and overall the place could use a major refurbishing. The hotel's one and only appeal is its proximity to the U.C. Berkeley campus. But allowing for all that and given what the room rates are this is a perfectly fine hotel.

This hotel had a half-baked remodel. The result is that, on a warm day in late fall, the guests are fully baked.

I awas there for Eiinstein on the Beach opera............ which was AMAZING!!being a Cal alumna, having my room widow facing the campanile and the Museum was awesome and then the Graduate poster and the streaking photo!!! As if you knew how to make my visit and reminiscing complete!! thank you!!

My second stay at the Kabuki hotel in last 4 years. Great to know the the quality of the service didnt decline. Well kept hotel, helpful staff, within walking distance to the downtown, price the same as in motels nearby (Kabuki is not a motel at all!) Will stay next time in SF.

Had a great corner room with operable windows. The fresh air and views were spectacular. The room was quiet at night. The place was clean and neat, the beds comfortable and while the decor was not my taste exactly, was all coordinated and well done. Very nice experience. Would definitely go back.

This is a nice old hotel I stay at because of its convenience to the campus and its commitment to the school. The rooms are small (ours was made smaller by a portable air conditioner sitting rather unceremoniously on the floor by a chair) and basic, but it's well kept and has a lot of tradition. As other reviewers have mentioned, the location of this hotel is fantastic - a block from campus, and half a mile or so to Shattuck with all its restaurants, shops, and less than a mile to the downtown Berkeley BART station. Our second floor room was quite small and the sink was in the room, rather than in the bathroom. The queen bed was quite comfortable […] and the room was very clean. We faced south, and so the room stayed very warm despite running the ceiling fan and room fan continuously on high. The building is quite old, and the place has a sort of seamy charm to it. The staff were all very friendly. The front desk staff made a number of good recommdendations for places to eat. We would certainly consider staying her again for a night or two, but would ask not to be put into a south facing room. Read more

I had an awesome time overall, very comfortable room and friendly staff. The location was perfect for UC Berkeley events.
