"Third Year in a Row at the Ashburn"
This was the 3rd year in a row I stayed at the Ashburn. This hotel is perfect for me. It's close to the Tube (Gloucester Road station, Picadilly Line goes to/from Heathrow), very comfortable and attractive, and they serve breakfast on site. There are restaurants, supermarkets, and novelty shops all within easy walking distance. Knightsbridge (Harrod's!) […] , Kensington Gardens, and the Victoria & Albert and Natural History Museums also are within walking distance. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
We upgraded to the "king" room, which only implies that the room it's self is larger and has a bathtub. I understand that all beds are the same size, only room size differs with the descriptions; "queen" room is smaller and only has a shower. Breakfast offerings were delicious, served promptly and reasonably priced; staff was very helpful and friendly. […] The bar/lounge was a nice respite after a busy day. "plugs near a mirror!!!!!!"
Your service is second to none and we would stay again in a heartbeat! I just didn't get why you had no plugs for hairdryers near a mirror? I get why they aren't in the bathroom, for safety, but I am severely nearsighted and had to look clear across the room and do my hair using the mirrors on the closet doors. It was very frustrating. "Great hotel with a great location"
We loved the Ashburn hotel. The room was surprisingly large (a twin room) and spotlessly clean. The amenities were as described, e.g. robes, slippers, breakfast, small refrigerator in the room, etc. The hotel was very close to the tube - about 1 1/2 blocks and we felt very safe walking around the area. Next to the tube were a grocery store, and a Boots […] pharmacy. We very much appreciated the services of the two concierges who were very helpful and the young lady who served as receptionist. "Really- this place was superb!"
I had an amazing experience at this hotel. I was lucky enough to be upgraded to a King size room. The view was of the city road and was really breathtaking for someone new to the city. I loved the setup of the room and though that the bathroom was great. I had lots of room. I was able to walk to the Underground system in about 5 minutes. There is a […] lovely grocery store nearby on the way to the Underground. The area is great. There are some restaurants, a souvenir shop with a post office, and a charity shop nearby with amazing finds (called Zara). The hotel's concierge was amazing. I was able to catch a show for half price while I was in town. I also though that the breakfast was amazingly good. One night I ordered a light meal off the room service menu. The food came quickly and was really tasty. I would love to stay here again next time. Really- this place was superb! Worth every penny (or pence ;) ) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
A lovely hotel...small and perfectly located between two tube stops and loads of charming, small restaurants. It is just a 9 block walk to the V & A and natural history museum. "A faux boutique hotel, beware!"
This hotel appears to be an upscale boutique hotel but it is anything but! We booked this hotel based on the the reviews written here and were very disappointed. While the rooms are tastefully decorated and the bathroom is done quite well, the mattress and bedding is more like a Hotel 1, Cheap and very uncomfortable. We asked at the receiption for a […] room with a better mattress and was told that this is the mattress that is in every room. The food was horrible. For a boutique hotel the food is on the level of a one star US hotel. The soup was, I believe, canned and the bread resembled that of spongy wonder bread. The morning continental breakfast consisted of packaged baked goods, wonder bread for toast and boxes of cereal. The carpeting in the hallway and in the stairwell was old and dirty. At the end of a long day of sight seeing this hotel is very cold and unfriendly and the bed will leave you in ruins! My recommendation is to save your money, go to a hotel that is a 2 star and you would get the same level of service or get a good recommendation for a real four star hotel. There did not appear to be many people staying at this establishment. When we left the gentleman who was checking us out never said I hoped you enjoyed your stay with us, or how did you enjoy your stay with us. He said you are paid up. No have a nice day or anything. Very unhappy people. Beware! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Location & Helpful Staff"
Access to the Tube, museums, a Waitrose grocery, and parks was excellent. Staff members were helpful; the internet connection was always robust; and the continental breakfast was good, varied, and ample. Having a paper at the door each morning was a plus as were the Gilchrist & Soames bath products. Our room was smaller than other reviews seemed to […] suggest, fairly typical of British and European rooms. We would only stay there again if we could book one of the larger rooms. In an attempt to include a desk, small table, comfy chair, etc., the room was too crowded with furniture --- even for us with only carry-on luggage. Other than that, a pleasant hotel in a nice area. Nice and clean hotel, the rooms were a decent size and well kept. The location is superb as it is a 2 minute walk to the Gloucester Road tube station. This hotel is ideal for everyone and well recommended.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent choice for a London visit!"
The Ashburn is just around the corner from the underground (Circle, District and Piccadilly lines.) Staff were exceptionally courteous, professional and helpful. "Great Hotel --- Just make sure the heat works"
Great hotel, decent size rooms, showers, and great amenities. Very close to the tube and near some good pubs and restaurants. "Great homebase for sightseeing"
This was our first visit to London and we had a lovely stay at the Ashburn. The staff was friendly and helpful. The breakfast buffet provided a good start to our busy days. "Good Value, Elegant, Some Drawbacks"
This hotel is elegant and well maintained, with a friendly staff. It's very convenient to the Gloucester Road tube stop, and thus to most of London. Breakfast (included) is great. We had a few issues with a hard bed, a delayed maid service, and dysfunctional air-conditioning, but overall a pleasant stay.Genuine Expedia guest review
We now stay at the Ashburn whenever we come to London. This year we had three separate stays there as we flew into London, then traveled to Scotland and back to London before flying to Oslo then back to London again after touring Norway. It's fabulous! Great service, luxurious rooms, fantastic breakfast. They gave us room upgrades without asking when […] they weren't fully booked. South Kensington is a terrific neighborhood. I had stayed at the Ashburn once before. This time, when I arrived I learned that there was a problem (a water leak or something) and they had to move me. "The Ashburn Hotel in London-Excellent"
I spent 3 nights at the Ashburn Hotel with my 10 year old son in June. It is a 5 min walk to Gloucester Road tube staion and a straight shot to Heathrow on the pcadilly line. The room was very well appointed with toiletries and a refrigerator . The concierge, Steven, was particularly helpful with everything from arranging taxis to dining suggestions […] and even obtaining tickets to various attractions..the neighborhood is safe and covenient. This hotel was a great bargain for its location. The breakfast, included in the room rate, was lovely and very convenient. A downside to this hotel was the AC. We were there in May when it wasn't hot, yet we had difficulty keeping the room a comfortably cool temperature. The AC consisted of a portable unit vented out the window, necessitating the window […] being partially open and allowing street noise and outside heat in. Not sure how warm it would get in the summer months but wouldn't want to find out. Would have appreciated better access to ice, though hotel staff was very courteous about getting it for us each evening. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"3* hotel with 4* pretensions"
I checked out this hotel pretty thoroughly, I thought, before booking as part of a package. The reviews were either 3* or 5*. I'd have to go with the 3*. The issues with temperature control in room 305 have not been fixed even after being reported on other sites several months ago. Ironically, this is apparently considered a better room since it faces […] the street and is larger by London standards. However, besides being uncomfortably hot even in the cool Spring weather, there a minor repairs that have been neglected - missing knobs on the bathroom cabinet, for example, and mold on the shower grout. It is also very noisy despite the double paned glass (more than expected big city noises). After being moved to room 103 which faces the back of another building, we were able to sleep comfortably since the ventilation worked. This room is more typical of London hotels & was cramped. the extra small table and stuffed arm chair made maneuvering around the bed difficult. You also have to open the door completely to enter the bathroom, and the toilet is behind the door. The shower however was clean, and the bathroom drawers had all their knobs. There was minimal closet space. Breakfast was typical continental and may get monotonous after 3 or 4 days. Front desk service wasn't particularly friendly, but was efficient. The fire alarm did go off early one morning due to burnt toast in the breakfast room. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Location to tube was excellent. Giant Hilton across the street with blaring green sign was an eye-sore. I got one of the largest rooms which was very clean and nice overall, but the bed was pretty hard and their carpet choice appears to be dated even though I don't think it's old (it's kind of a shag/long style). Nice soaps/candles and good value considering […] that breakfast is included. Staff were very accommodating and helpful as I couldn't figure out how to turn on the shower or which direction was "on" for the switches/outlets (some switches are on when pushed up and others you push down instead, so there is no rhyme or reason). Well worth considering as alternative to the bland chains. We had basic small double room. "Very Pleasant Hotel"
Spent 2 nights here which was very pleasant and hotel is in an excellent location close to Gloucester Road tube for our trip to Arsenal to watch the football game. As it was our birthdays they upgraded us to a suite which was very spacious, comfortable, light and airy. Although the room was great, it fronted Cromwell Road and the traffic noise was somewhat […] disturbing to the tranquility of the room (next time will ask for a room not on the main road). Also the room could have been cleaner.......there was a thick layer of dust on the ornamental bedside lamps as well as the ornate timber furniture and along the edge of the carpet adjacent to the skirting boards which played havoc with my dust allergies. Unfortunately the lifts had broken down the day prior to our arrival so we had to trudge up and down the stairs to our room on the 4th floor.....was good exercise! The breakfast room is delightful with relaxing music and the breakfast itself fresh and delicious......great coffee too! The staff were extremely helpful and polite. Would definitely stay here again. "Fewer boutique touches, more hotel basic comfort"
The Ashburn tries hard. It pampers its guests with small, well-appreciated attentions (bottled water in the rooms, a little box of mints, a welcome drink). The staff is clearly dedicated and pleasant, particularly the waitresses. Unfortunately, these positive features are not enough. In a hotel, I look for comfort and convenience. The room was very […] small, and so was the bathroom. I believe it was the smallest, and most inconvenient hotel bathroom I have ever seen. On arrival, the lift, the only one in the hotel, was not working, a situation that lasted for a full three days. As I was writing these lines, I checked the hotel's site descriptions and photographs of the rooms as well as the terms of my reservation with Expedia, and I believe that I was given the wrong room (104). Expedia should check on this matter, and let me know. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
