Great Barrier Reef calling you? Stay here. Port Douglas, charming... Meals at the hotel are available, the view is of the water... Beach across the street. Staff is ready, willing, available. Able? Not so much. Thoughtful? Yes. Effective? No. Lots of reasons and excuses. Would I stay here again? Maybe....Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Perfect location!!! Right on the beach and a block from Main St. My wife and I slept better in the hotel bed then our own! The only down side was the staff they forgot to schedule pick up from the airport and their were one or two airheads on the staff. But if I were to go back to Port Douglas there's no way I'm not staying @ the Peninsula Boutique […] Hotel it's a little slice of heaven. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, a bit over priced"
Great location. Walking distance to shopping, restaurants, 4-mile beach, and marina. Although having a kitchen was nice, the wood slat bathroom door did not provide any sound privacy. All in all a good spot if you can get a good price.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

We loved it! Personal service, perfect location. Very charming. A little piece of paradise.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel with it all!"
We really enjoyed staying at this hotel and would definitely go back. It had everything we were looking for including a great location near the beach and town, a small kitchen, a nice tub in the room, and a huge balcony overlooking the beach. We could hear and see the ocean.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful hotel in amazing location"
Quiet lovely hotel a hop skip and jump away from 4 mile beach. stunning views , nice staff and great breakfast. Ocean view suite to die for!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location but expensive for what you got"
The location was great being right in the center of town and across the road from the beach. Going to sleep and waking up with the sound of the ocean was so nice. The hotel itself was fine but way too expensive for what you got. We stayed for 7 nights and payed $350 per night! That's more than I pay per night for the hotels in Times Square New York! […] Very hard to justify that kind of price and expected a lot more for that kind of money. I would not stay there again for that price. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel in a great location"
We had a fabulous stay. You cannot have a better base from which to explore the area and the quality of accommodation was excellent - rooms were clean and comfortable, hotel service was friendly and helpful and the location within walking distance to Port Douglas main street and across the road from the beach. Breakfast was excellent - although for […] a hotel of this calibre something larger than a 2 slice toaster might be a worthwhile investment to minimise guest waiting time. The only fault was the hit and miss internet access during our stay but otherwise second to none. If we ever come back up this way we will definitely be staying here, no doubt about it. "Great hotel right by the beach"
If you're looking for an opulent 5 star hotel this is not it - but if you're looking for a very comfortable boutique hotel with just the best service then choose the Peninsula. It's not very large - more intimate really, it's very friendly and welcoming, and it makes the very best of its location - most rooms (including our coral suite) look out to […] the beach and the sea - there is a line of trees but you still see and hear the ocean. Most people seemed to be on B&B rates, and one area the hotel could improve is the breakfasts - most mornings the eggs were either underdone or bullet hard. However, this was one minor problem in an otherwise great stay. The owners and staff were so helpful - advising on the best tours and even running us across to the marina one day when it was raining hard. They knew about all the tour discounts too and made sure we got them. The hotel has a good cafe known by locals for its good coffee, and the cocktails were excellent too. The location isn't just right by the beach, it's at one end if the main street in town so it's also close to good shops and restaurants. If we can get back to Port Douglas another stay at the Peninsula will be one of the main attractions. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We stayed in room 2 which is the closest room to the bar and kitchen. You could hear them setting up on the mornings, which made it hard to sleep in.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Stayed 5 nights"
Got picked up from Cairnes airport, so that is a good way to start. Great location with a walk across the quiet road to the beach. The pool at the hotel is great too. We had a lovely sea view from our room/balcony but it doesn't get the afternoon sun, whereas the rooms over the pool do, so depends what you want. Close to the shops etc and kitchen facilities […] in the room were good. Although the room rate is high, that is the going rate - and we would probably stay there again. We stayed in July, we have heard since that September is the best weather (not too hot or windy) Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Hotel is in a superb location, directly opposite beach. We would certainly stay there again but there were a few minor hiccups which were annoying. When we arrived the fridge had been incorrectly turned off and for the first few days the wifi did not work in the room( some adjustment had to be made to the connection). During our stay the lock on our […] door decided not to lock any more and it took 36hrs to get that fixed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Location and Wonderful Service"
We wish our stay were longer. The location of the hotel and the service can not be faulted. The room was clean and comfortable and well layed out with it's own small deck. The cooking facilities were completely appropriate for the room, and the furnishing is nice. We cannot find a negative that should affect any decision to stay.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Wonderful in all aspects"
My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our 5 days stay at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel. Service was prompt, efficient and combined with smiles and great attitude. Early each morning a typed paper full of various activity suggestions for the day was pushed under our door. Organising taxis, tours, etc was no trouble. We were very impressed. The Hotel location […] is perfect with 4 Mile Beach just across the road and Port Douglas Village only a hundred meters away. We hope to repeat our visit to the Peninsula Hotel again soon. "Not a great respite from the wind"
I will preface this by saying the weather wasn't great, and this may have influenced my review. The hotel is in a great spot, just across a boulevard from the beach, and the staff were attentive and happy. The pool was lovely, and sheltered from the howling onshore winds, so that was great, and breakfast was adequate. The room was tired, a broken window […] and missing fan switch seem minor, but it is an expensive place, and I was surprised by these things. It just shows it's age, not enough light, too many dark wood panels, and uncomfortable chairs that you don't want to sit in. Overall, a bit disappointing, but perhaps if the sun had been shining it would not have mattered! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Beautiful place to stay."
Lovely small hotel, very personal and accommodating staff. Beautiful pool area and foliage lush and colourful. Everything was great. In house food was delicious and so reasonably priced. The rooms are relatively expensive but worth it. We had a lovely room overlooking the water with a great balcony. Easy access to washing machines, dryer, towels just […] make life easy. Only thought was that the mattresses might need a change as getting a little uncomfortable. We would love to return as we felt it was a great atmosphere, very relaxing. "Very good hotel."
Great location walking distance to main village and right on the beach. Meals were good and reasonably priced compared to other restaurants. Self contained ocean suite was great and would highly recommend, although you pay for it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Port Douglas Perfection"
01/27/15 ShirleyCairns Cairns
My husband and I recently stayed at this beautiful little hotel situated in what I would say the best location in Port Douglas. It is modern, spotlessly clean, and the staff are all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast is excellent. The rooms are quiet and very comfortably furnished. The rooms have a well fitted out kitchenette and coffee machine. We have stayed in Unit 27 prior, and Unit 24 this time.

My review is over a year late but it still stands! I actually travelled in April 2013 My friend and I were booked in to stay at the hotel for 1 night before our trip to the Daintree rainforest in a tour and to stay in a cabin in the forest the next night so this was just a stopover. We arrived late at night, had dinner and checked who was picking us up the next morning but nothing was booked and the hotel knew nothing about it. I contacted the travel agent in the uk where we had booked everything. He told us something would be ready in the morning. We got a phone call from hotel reception at 6.30am telling us our tour with the company had not been booked but they had done the research for us and another tour was leaving in 20mins if we wanted to go. There were no other tours that day so we rushed to get ready and check out in time for the tour. The hotel had a packed breakfast ready for us before we left and said they would investigate what was going on as we had nowhere to stay that night!! Basically the tour we were supposed to go on had gone bankrupt and the travel agent had messed up. Not only did the hotel look after us and allow us to stay on at the suite we booked for another night, they didnt charge us and also booked us a taxi free of charge back to Cairns and said would deal with it with the travel agent. They went over and above what they needed to and it was actually the best tour we went on!! Well done and thank you to the Peninsula Hotel. I hope I get to stay again one day :)
"Very nice hotel right across a quiet street from four mile beach on the Coral Sea"
01/23/15 chattboy Chattanooga, Tennessee
This hotel is delightful, walking distance to the downtown restaurants and shops, and across a quiet street from four mile beach, which was very visible through the trees from our balcony. There is a lovely outdoor pool area where a full, delicious breakfast buffet is available every morning. We booked our sightseeing trips right at the hotel, and the staff were very cordial and helpful. they have a full service restaurant, also delightfully pleasant outdoors, and we had a lovely dinner there one of our nights, though the restaurants in Port Douglas are outstanding, so I'd recommend the short walk to any one of them.
"THE Perfect Location in Port Douglas"

Admittedly, we splurged on this stay, the most expensive of all our choices in Australia (a month long visit from the US), but it was worth every penny. We loved our suite on the second floor on the ocean side - private, breezy - just great! The staff was so helpful - we booked our Daintree and Outer Reef tours right at the desk and all was just tallied onto our bill with no fuss. A very nice hot and cold breakfast in the morning. A wonderful, multi-layered pool to cool off in - even a waterfall! You will not go wrong being across the street from the ocean and down the street from the restaurants and shops. Also, the "stinger net" swimming area (needed in their summer) was right by the hotel. Just great.
"Great stay if you want views and tremendous location"
01/20/15 PPSYD Sydney, Australia
We stayed between Christmas and New Year 2014, what a great place to relax, unwind and explore Far North Queensland. Our suite was well appointed, clean and enough space for two. The view from the Suite was terrific, we had a room on the 3rd floor and our balcony had railings, so a view of the ocean from the spa bath and bed, don't get that everyday. Our package included breakfast, which was sufficient for a hungry traveller or a lazy vacationer. The hotel is situated on the corner of 'The Esplanade' - quiet street overlooking Four Mile Beach, and the Main Street of Port Douglas - so you are a short walk to everything - beach, shops, restaurants, markets and supermarkets. The Suite had a small kitchen/fridge, we used the dishwasher for storage of our groceries - we enjoyed fresh prawns, oyster and mangoes on our balcony for own private 'happy hour'. We hired a car from Cairns and this gave us the flexibility to explore our bucket list locations of Port Douglas, the Daintree National Park (Cape Tribulation and surrounds) and the Atherton Tablelands at our own speed. The only disappointment was too short a stay - we were unable to explore the Great Barrier Reef - next time. What we did (still writing my reviews) - self drive to the Daintree Region - having lunch at Thornton Kiosk - what views, morning tea at the Whet Cafe, buying fresh Vanilla (toot the horn and walk down the driveway), tea (from and honesty box) and swimming in a local billabong - ask the Vanilla man where that is. - Rode the Skyway through the Rainforest to Kuranda - Sailed on the Lady Douglas - looking for crocs - visited local Restaurants - Siam by the Sea, and bel cibo - relaxed with a Shinto Shiatsu Massage under the Waratah Shinto tent (designed by Linda Jackson) from Margaret Gordon - self drive through The Atherton Tablelands - having morning tea at CoffeeWorks at 136 Mason St Mareeba, bought Peanuts at the Peanut Place, Cnr Kennedy Hwy and auld Road, Tolga and Chopping Board at Tolga Woodworks.
This boutique hotel is simply beautiful. I escaped to Port Douglas for the weekend and my stay at this hotel was simply breathtaking. The rooms are spacious, well designed and the decor is lovely. The bathroom is also luxurious. They have great facilities and also my stay included a buffet breakfast. It is quite expensive at $400 a night but totally worth it !
"Perfect for Port Douglas"
01/13/15 roaming13 London, United Kingdom
We arrived towards the end of our trip in Australia and were really pleased with this hotel. The welcome is very good and informative. The staff are lovely, friendly and unique personalities, a perfect match for the Port Douglas vibe. We were shown our room which had two huge open views of the beach. These are on the balcony at the beach-facing part of the hotel. The room has good facilities: kitchen with cooker, dishwasher, kettle, tea and coffee facilities and crockery/glasses. The mini bar is well stocked, but leaves room for your own water etc. the minibar was reasonably priced for a hotel. The tv had good channels, sofa etc comfy. The bedroom opens from this which is quite roomy and bathroom is large, we had shower and jacuzzi style bath, albeit no time to use it. Toiletries are lovely. Mini gripes on the room, a few electrics didn't work but the hotel offered maintenance etc immediately, but we didn't use dishwasher etc so not a problem. The only issue, if being very picky, is the wifi is free but drops off all the time. That said, there is so much on offer this deserves 5 stars. I was very excited to find out the hotel provided free laundry rooms with washing machines, dryers and powder. It's sad, but after weeks of travelling, necessary! The hotel has a nice outdoor pool, hot tub and the rooms are very soundproof. The information on trips was excellent and having a very good restaurant on site was a gem- it is best food for us in town and made life much easier after day trips. We had breakfast included which was a good range, including cooked foods, pastries etc. The bar and restaurant staff are very good, helpful. I liked this hotel as it just fits well, there is a laid- back feel, although everything was super and would recommend this to family and friends travelling to Port Douglas. It's a couple of minutes walk to the Main Street and a minute to the beach.

We stayed for one week after Christmas and couldn't have been happier with our choice. The staff were welcoming and very friendly, always happy to help. The rooms were clean and well appointed, plus we had the additional feature of a balcony that overlooked the beautiful four mile beach. The location was ideal being close to the main street in Port Douglas where we enjoyed a walk everyday before relaxing for cocktails back at the Peninsula Boutique Hotel. Would definitely stay again!
"Great location, views, and staff"
01/05/15 Brian B Walton-On-Thames, United Kingdom
Superb location, lovely room and view, and the staff could not have been more helpful. We arrived somewhat jaded at Cairns at 4.30am and the hotel shuttle was welcome and worked like clockwork. We needed help with Great Barrier Reef excursions and various local tasks and again the hotel staff were excellent. Not the cheapest hotel in town, but if you possibly can it's worth paying up and staying here. There are various hotels in Port Douglas, but we could not find another close to the centre and with a view of the beach like this one.

Unlike the very odd negative review from someone who stayed here the same time as us we had a great time . I wonder if they were even in the same hotel,as us? We also were on the Ocean front room 17 the only noise we could hear over 5 days were the birds and the sea . Our room was perfect and the TV that could be moved round was perfect for 2 people however why would you want to watch the TV if you could sit on the balcony and watch the Coral sea? Breakfast was first class and fruit ben better . This place works hard to give you an experience to remember and Sheryn was kind to me as I had a rotten chest infection and she helped out with some medication . The pool areas are private and romantic and easy to tick yourselves away together Even a guest laundry free of charge We saw no kids other than the resturant and why would anyone complain about them as its separate to the hotel and very good food Thankyou for making our trip to Port Douglas just amazing Sheryn
