My overall experience at this hotel was okay for a one-night stay. The negatives were that I saw a roach in my room and I had originally thought that there was no hot water in the sink--I found out after I woke up in the morning that the hot water setting at the sink was where the cold water setting usually is. On the plus side, when I went to the vending machine and the snack I bought got stuck, I was able to get a quick refund from the front desk. It was close to where I wanted to be. Clean. The walls are thin. Could hear bed in next room squeaking, if u know what I mean. In a pinch, I would stay there again. It was a last minute, need a place to sleep now, for me. IHOP very close by. Highway noise could be heard, though.

The room smelled like cigarette smoke. They need mats to prevent all that dirt from outdoors getting trekked into the room. Someone else's hair was in the bathroom. The heat was ridiculous -- either 90* in the room, or no heat at all. After reading the reviews on this hotel I decided to give it a try. When we arrived at the property it appeared much older and dirtier than on line pictures represented. We checked in with the courteous lady at the front desk and she offered us a back side room. I declined as I explained to her that I did not have a gun with me and that was the only […] way I would feel safe back there. She politely offered me a 2nd floor room on the front without commenting on my statement. When we got into the room my wife said the room looked nice. It had been redone recently as the reviews mentioned. I noticed the bedspread was old and had cigarette burn holes in it. The heat was screwed up and it felt like it was 80 degrees no matter where you set the thermostat. We had to run the air every so often to orcool the room down. It is after all a red roof inn I guess and you get what you pay for. I will spend a little more next time and stay some where else. Read more

The hotel key unlocked the door but the door knob would not turn so it took a good 10 minutes to get into the room. You know what, people say all sorts of stuff about budget hotels and names like 'Red Roof' get dragged through the dirt by people who stay in them expecting it to be like the Waldorf. The truth is it isn't going to be like the Waldorf but it's perfectly good for the price, in fact it was excellent. My room was clean and tidy, I had high speed internet […] and the bed was fine - I had inspected it for bugs after reading online scaremongering reviews but there wasn't a sign of anything untoward. My room was in fact spotless, the bathroom was immaculate and there was a good shower and hot water. The hotel also had an ice machine and a vending machine. The front desk was staffed 24 hours a day and they were all extremely helpful and friendly - even a courtesy call after I arrived in the room to check I was ok and the room was to my liking. I felt perfectly safe in my room and there was just the standard deadbolt and latch. I barely heard anyone during my entire stay. The location is out of the way, but if you are travelling through Durham to somewhere else and need a place to stay for a small cost then it's perfect. You need a taxi or to drive to get to the City centre, but if you aren't bothered about seeing the city and just want a cheap place to spend the night then look no further. This is not a hotel like in the horror films. It was a pleasant stay and don't believe all the bad things written by angry guests who clearly have a gripe with the hotel for some personal reason.
