Red Roof Inn Detroit - Southfield - Southfield

This is probably one of the last Red Roofs in need of an overhaul. The other RRs have all been remodeled. Not this one (and it really shows). I had to ask to be moved to another room because the first one didn't have a working air unit. And the second one was smelled WAY too strongly of lysol. My eyes were almost burning. It was the worst stay at a hotel I've ever had. I booked a king online, when I got there they tried to give me a double. After I got the king suite, it was dirty, the amount of cleanser they used choked me half to death. I had to leave the room door open for 30 minutes just so I could breathe!! We needed a place to stay overnight having driven from Buffalo to Detroit on our way to Michigan State University to drop our returning student. There was some noisy construction happening right in front of the hotel driveway that continued late into the night but that wasn't the hotel's fault I suppose. We were also contacted by the front desk that […] the water would be shut off temporarily so if we were going to shower the window was closing. It reminds me of the movie motels that a fugitive would use. The kingsize bed i slept in was fragile and sunken in. The room smelled like dirty carpet. The bathroom is so small that there is only room to stand in front of the toilet. Very low quality but hey, it was cheap. I will not be staying here again though.

We checked in at 12:30 AM and it took the attendant approx 15 minutes just to check us in. He asked if we wanted a wake up call and we said yes at 5:00 AM which we never got. It's a good thing we set our own alarm for 5:15AM just in case. We were told that we would have to check out and tell the clerk if we used the safe or not so we wouldn't be charged […] the $1.50 safe fee. Then it took approx 20 minutes just to check out. I don't understand why these clerks are not trained better to be knowledgeable of their job. When in the Detroit area we will not be returning to this hotel as I would have rested better in my car. I needed someplace overnight for me and my small dog. This pet friendly hotel was perfect. The room looked remodeled. The only thing I would have to complain about would be the carpet. It felt sticky/musty. I kept on my flip flops because the carpet was unbearable to walk on. Overall, it was a great experience.

this is a nice inexpensive hotel. neat and clean. only serves coffee/cocoa in lobby--no breakfast. really ugly curtains/bedspreads. comfortable and adequate. nice price.

After an almost 6hr drive from Chicago to Detroit! myself and my best friend had trouble finding this tucked away off the side of the road hotel! finally we found the Red Roof Inn at 1am the next day of check in. the door sign read, please use the rear door for late check in! WHAT! , what is this i ask my girlfriend,when do you close the check in counter […] at mid-night and have to use the back door? needless to say it only got worse from that point! as i stood there,i noticed the young man working behind the plexiglas counter was not dressed for the work place. jeans,baseball cap,t-shirt and slippers! YES slippers!! at this time i was not impressed at all. get my 1 key card to my room and we make it to the 2nd floor landing ,where there's people on the balcony talking on their cell phone,kids loooking for their parents! and a car full of half dressed women with ONE man! i get in the room and immediately i smelled cigarette smoke and dirty carpet! i ask the front desk for a different room, my request was granted .but only more of the same complaints! stains on the blanket! dirty sheets! the pillows felt like cottons balls in a pillow case! the sheets were inside out! so i ask to check out a 3rd room. so the nice young man did grant my that option of moving to a different room.before i moved my things for a third time i walked with him to check out the room . i could not believe my eyes and nose! only the same smell and bad linen. i would not recommend this place to ANYONE!
