I spent one night at the Central House Hotel in May for a short getaway with my wife. I chose this hotel because of its incredibly low price and seemingly modern look. The hotel is located about equal distance between the Pimlico and Victoria tube stations... a 5-10 minute walk from either station. It is located on Belgrave Road, a street with many […] other row-house hotels. The interior was somewhat recently renovated in a modern decor, however, I could tell that it was cheaply done. The lobby was small, but adequate; however, the hallways and stairwells were dingy and somewhat dirty. My room, which faced the street, was in better shape than the other areas of the hotel. Although the building is very old, my room (including the bathroom) was remodeled and attractive. The room was quite small, but what you'd expect for a low-priced room in London. The bed was a little hard, but still adequately comfortable. The room had a small flat-screen TV. The front desk attendant was helpful- he allowed us to store our luggage after checkout until we came by later that evening to pick it up. The hotel offers a free continental breakfast. The selection of food items was very limited- some breads, cereals, canned fruit, and yogurt. However, again, with the low price, one really can't complain too much about an "economy" breakfast. There is no A/C in the hotel so I wouldn't stay there on a hot night. Read more

This hotel is perfect if all you are looking for is a hotel that is close to a tube station for relatively cheap price. If you are looking for a comfortable hotel in which to relax in and watch tv with lots of ammenities, then I would search elsewhere. Using the room as a launch point to see all that London has to offer it was perfect for our needs. […] Had we wanted to spend more time in the room we would have been dissapointed. The rooms are typical of European hotels; small, outdated, minimum ammenities for large price tag. The staff was very nice and helpful. The heat did not work in our room the first night, when brought to the staffs attention they immediately came to the room to fix it. I feel like for the price we may have been able to find a better hotel, but what we needed was a clean bed every night and that is what we received. Stayed a total of 3 nights and the first night was a disaster. I booked a triple and received a room just big enough for a double bed. The double bed with shifted over and a rollaway bed placed to the side. You had to crawl from the foot of each bed to get into bed. This was very difficult to do for my 80 year old mother in law. I stayed in this hotel for 1 week for a trip to London. I reserved a room as it was in the center of the city and close to two underground stations (Victoria and Pimlico). Unfortunately, this had to be the smallest hotel room that I ever stayed in. Please note that I had one of the larger rooms (two beds). The bathroom was literally about 1/4 of the […] size of my closet at my house! Would NOT recommend a stay. I think you could find something better for a similar price range. Pros: Location near 2 underground stations and in the heart of the city. Staff was friendly. Many restaurants, shops, etc just north of the hotel near Victoria Station. Cons: EXTREMELY small room and bathroom (bathroom dimensions were approx 4'x4', You actually had to stand in the shower to use the toilet. The sink was a "mini-sink", the kind you find in prison cells). No refrigerator. To use the room safe was another 2 pounds per day. Breakfast another 5 pounds daily. No closet, only a 1'x1' standing mirror with hangers. Poor sound insulation (you could hear people upstairs walking around on creaky floors and do NOT get a street facing room if you mind loud traffic noises, even with windows closed). Overall: 2/5. I would recommend staying at another hotel. If I were the owner of the hotel I would recognize that with such meager accommodations there should be free breakfast, wall safe, mini fridge, and free internet. This would be a minimal cost and make up for some of the inherent negatives. Read more

Let me start with saying that the area of the hotel is great, plenty of places to eat in walking distance. 10min walk to the subway that can take you to all the best locations in London. Bus stop right out front. I guess this is partially my fault for not understanding what a "standard" room in Europe means, but there was NO air conditioning in the […] room. It was also very small, but adequate. The window was to a hallway that leads to the breakfast room. Breakfast and internet are NOT included. Internet is quite expensive. I do not know where the nearest parking garage is. We parked out front but had to leave at 8:30am and not come back until after 6pm or we would get a parking fine. I did have a few beefs - the old style slide in keys require a final shove to flip the latch. The hotel was in a great location with restaurants and pubs nearby as well as it was within walking distance to attractions and Victoria Station. The rooms were small as bathrooms had been added to each room which cut down on space. Don't go there if you plan on spending lots of time in your room as you will be disappointed. We were there to see London […] and basically just slept and showered there. The rooms were clean and beds comfortable which met our needs. It had an elevator which many small hotels do not have and was great for hauling luggage. I would recommend it to other travelers familiar with European sized rooms, not to anyone wanting American sized ones. It was a great little hotel and we had a wonderful time. I flew from Houston to London for a one day visit. After a night of flying I was finally in London. When I arrived at the hotel I was promptly greeted in the small lobby after making my way to the hotel from Heathrow airport. I had arrived at the property at around 11:00am. Check in was not until 2pm. The gentleman behind the counter checked to see […] if I could check in early but unfortunately this was not possible. He gave me a key to the luggage room so I had a place to set my carry on bag down and hit the London streets! After spending quite a few hours sight seeing and walking the streets of London, I made my way back to the hotel. It was around 3pm and I approached the front counter and was given my room key. "it's room #3, down in the basement." I was told. I was very surprised that a hotel would even have a room in the basement, but I didn't come to London so I could sit around in a hotel room all day. The room was very small, but I'm only one person and all I needed was a place to lay my head that night and shower the next morning. The room was clean. It lacked air conditioning but it really wasn't needed anyway. The small TV didn't seem to work but I never reported it because it really wasn't a big deal to me. What I really wanted was a room with a window so I could look outside. The room I was in had a window, but it only looked out into the hallway. I guess the only real issue I had was with breakfast the next morning. The breakfast room for the hotel was near my room so I heard lots of clanging of coffee cups, silverware, bowls, etc. by all the hotel guests at 7:00am. I got myself out of bed, showered, and made my way to the breakfast room. It was so jammed packed full of people that it wasn't worth the hassel of bumping in to people left and right, "pardon me, excuse me, pardon me.." just to get a bowl of cereal. We stayed in one of the basement rooms, room 3, which was literally an island with a corridor on one side that led to the kitchen (our window looked straight out into the corridor, there was no frosted glass and our curtains had to remain closed). The corridor was very noisy from very early on as it had tiled floors. The kitchens were to another side […] and a smell of cooking came into the room very early in the morning to the point of it being overpowering. the third side backed onto the dining room, again very noisy from very early and the fourth side had the lift!! The room was tiny, and you had to climb over the other person to get out of bed to go to the toilet. This hotel was excellent VFM in this area. In addition there was a bus from outside the hotel which took you straight through to Leicester Square. You can;t get more convenient than that. I stayed at the Central Hotel 9th & 10th January. Got up in the morning for a shower, to be scorched by boiling hot water. Tried everything to cool the water to no avail. Called for help. The staff member couldn't help. Other than to arrange for me to shower in a room one flight down. (involving a trip in the lift, past the breakfast room in my pyjamas... […] nice.) Half an hour wasted and an embarrassing start to the day. Was told the shower in my room would be fixed by the time I returned. Returned on the 10th after a long day to be told the shower could not be fixed, but I could move to another room. I moved me and my 5 bags downstairs to a basement room where the window was permanently ajar with no safety chains (unlike the room on the 1st floor) with direct access to the street. It did not feel safe so I asked for another room. Me and my 5 bags moved up to the fourth floor to a room which felt safe. It had a musty smell but I thought that would go... after a sleepless night in a blisteringly hot room (despite 2 windows open)with an unpleasant musty smell which I could not get rid of, I went for a shower. Lo and behold, the shower in this room was also of the scorching variety. All I ask for when I stay in a hotel is a clean, comfortable, safe room with a shower that works. Unfortunately 3 of the rooms I experienced at Central Hotel failed to deliver this basic service. Read more
