"Great Find"Reviewed by Peter of "Charlottesville, VA." on Feb 16, 2012
This is a great find. Rooms are "city" size a bit small BUT everything you need including a HD flat screen is in the room. The breakfast and coffee are perfect. Priced well and overall a perfect place to stay.

Buildings crane above one another to claim views of Central Park, a piece of real estate valued at more than $528 billion. Surprises abound in its 843 acres. The grounds include a castle, a zoo, several lakes, and an Egyptian obelisk. A city that never sleeps needs its quiet time, too: Central Park has six designated “quiet zones,” including Strawberry Fields, the monument to John Lennon.

"Great hotel in a great location"
I stayed in this hotel this past week. The rooms are very small but quite modern. The elevator is very old but I loved the location of the hotel. The staff was very friendly.
"Amazing value & excellent place for romance"
In a city where most rooms are tiny, expensive and just OK....This beautifully appointed boutique hotel was everything we hoped for and more. The decor was modern, clean and comfortable. Bed extremely comfortable with a nice soft comforter and plenty of cool looking pillows. ..a full length mirror tastefully placed on the bathroom door, cool modern […] coffee maker, and awesome granite stone in the bathroom instead of the generic stuff. Great service, business center and staff. The neighborhood is nice and quiet with the park nearby and lots of excellent restaurants. We didn't want to leave and we'll definitely be back! Read more
I actually enjoyed my stay at the hotel. It was clean. The bathroom was clean which is the most important thing to me. I would def stay here again.

"Great hotel at great location"
Great hotel. Love the uniqueness of it and location. Located in a neighborhood away from all the tourism and junk stores. 2 blocks from subway. Great shops and local food joints close by. Will def stay there again

"The Hotel ABD in NYC - Very convenient location"
Was in the City to do a job and Hotel was within walking distance and very affordable. Only regret is that I only stayed one night, otherwise it was close to Central park, lincoln Center and Columbus Circle. Definately would stay there again.
"A Great Value on the Upper West Side"
A spacious, comfy room, ovservation decks for viewing the city, subway a block away, vibrant neighborhood full of good restaurants... at a price that left us some money to spend on the town. We love this place and will definitely be back.
"On the Ave Hotel - clean convenient, & comvortable"
The rooms were smallish, but big enough. The comforters on the beds actually made it difficult to go out On the Ave. We decided that falling into the comforters on the beds in the late afternoon was one of our 'must-do' activities while in New York.
"The Hotel On the Ave New York- close to all"
The staff was friendly, professional. The Hotel was clean, great location and cozy. Ideal for a short stay.

On the Ave - Upper West Side NYC - Nice location close to Central Park and Natural History Museum in good neighborhood. Hotel was clean and a good value. Will stay here again.
"Great hotel, mediocre beds"
The hotel is great. The beds are mediocre. All else was great.
"Small but comfortable room"
The room we stayed in was really small (we could barely walk around the bed) but the bed was great. The bathroom was nice and rather big compared the the room itself! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful.
"Beautiful Views, Beautiful Rooms"
The balcony here is amazing - the view is simply to die for, facing the north side of Manhattan. And there are two of them, with the second one being a smaller one inside the complex. However, it's probably not worth going out to either balcony during the winter because of the height and chance for catching a cold. The room looks amazing, with a comfortable, […] fantastic bed. The bathroom has a standup shower and beautiful lighting all around (with dimmers). The LCD TV is a great accessory making it pretty much unnecessary to ever leave the hotel for entertainment (but it's NYC, so make sure you do!) Read more
"Great hotel"
The range of hotels in New York is enormous and many are not what they proclaim themselves to be; but this one was great! My wife an I drove to NYC and, as many trips, we managed a few time-sucking problems to delay us. We arrived at 10pm and were greeted warmly by desk staff. As a special bonus from the 'gods of travel' we were offered an upgrade […] to a large room at no cost. Perhaps they had overbooked the cheapies, don't know, but it was the nicest late arrival present one could imagine. I had read a few negative comments on rooms, but this one had none of that, it was great. Yes I did spot a few dots of mold in the shower grout, but get real, many home have that and in many ways it is almost impossible to eliminate. The only traveler warnings we have is that the entrance to the hotel is actually on 77th. Which means, as a cautionary tale, that the primary parking garage that the hotel uses is across the street from their entrance. Why is that important? the 24hr parking rate is lower per day, (vy the price of an adult ticket to most museums) than the hotel valet parking fee and all you need to do is roll your own suitcase across the street. And if that lot is full then the next one is only a 100 feet away on the other side of the hotel at 76th street. You can find more garages by searching for 'NYC parking' and looking for 'bestparking' Since the room has a 'through door' to the next room we could hear some of the sounds from the next room, but that can happen anywhere . Wifi costs in the room but is free in the lobby. We enjoyed the hotel and will keep it on our preferred place list. Read more

"Cool place"
Would stay here again
"friendly staff"
staff was very friendly and helpful, offered us a courtyard or street room, and were gay-friendly
"On the Ave New York - great boutique hotel"
This is a lovely place to stay. Rooms are streamlined, modern, and comfy. Staff is terrific. Would go back in a heartbeat the next time I'm in NYC.
"If You're in NYC for the Shows..."
...this is an affordable choice. The rooms are efficiently designed (not spaciously or luxuriously, so if you're looking to be outright pampered, I'd save up for something else). I had no inconveniences during my stay and the front desk/concierge were helpful when I needed them. Overall a great choice if you're looking to see the shows and need a nice […] but inexpensive place to stay. Read more
"Great location"
The hotel is in a great location, staff are friendly abd accomodating. Our first room was tiny and dark with a view of a brick wall. After calling the front desk, we were moved to a beautiful, big room with a great view. The only downside to the hotel was that there were bags of garbage and cleaning carts/ supplies in all of the hallways at all times. […] No matter when we were walking through the hotel the bsgs of garbage were there. It did not smell but looked messy and cluttered the hallways. Read more
"A Plesant surprise"
Concierge was excellent above and beyond initiative and follw up. Room was quite quiet-especially give the central location, Great Irish breakfast, Slow and small elevators however,
On The Ave Hotel is a modern hotel on the UWS and is very close to the 1 train. My room seemed a little small but it was very clean. The best thing I liked about the room was that it had a nice 32inch LCD TV mounted on the wall. The bathroom was rather large, but I think that might be because they gave me a hanicapped accessible room, which I was a […] little upset about. If you're looking for a fairly priced hotel on the UWS, look no farther than On the Ave. Read more

Great place to stay on the Upper West Side. Just a couple of blocks to the subway in each direction. We've stayed there many times and always come back.

"OTA Hotel - Pleasant Surprise in West Side NYC"
This was a pleasant surprise for NYC, very affordable, spacious lobby, decent room size, clean and worth the trip to upper West Side neighborhood.
"On the Ave"
Nice hotel, good price, great location. The rooms are very nice, lobby and elevators are ok. Definitely great value for money!
"Stylish, affordable, clean & comfortable"
We really enjoyed our stay at On The Ave. Our room was very clean and beautifully designed and our bed was quite comfortable. They even upgraded us from a queen to a king. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for an affordable but stylish and comfortable hotel in Manhattan.
"loved it"
I loved my stay here, we got upgraded for free. The room was beautiful, the view was amazing. I have no complaints, free coffee in the morning to start off the day. With the price i got for it, it was better than expected! The room was clean and furnished really nice.
"AVE HOTEL NEW YORK GREAT LOCATION"
HOTEL WAS VERY NICE. GREAT AREA OF THE CITY TO STAY. THE STAFF WAS VERY ACCOMODATING. THE ONLY SHORT FALL WAS THE LACK OF CLOSET SPACE AND A TOWEL BAR IN THE BATHROOM.

"just great !"
We love the hotel ! The staff was extremely nice and accomodating, the room spatious, clean and well maintained. I would stay there again any time.
NIce and simple hotel, perfect for vacation
"On The Ave Hotel- You get what you pay for"
My wife and I decided to stay at this hotel, despite its mixed reviews, because of its low price. We were in town for 2 days to visit museums and friends. The hotel itself was pleasant, with a very attentive and helpful staff. The location was great also, with a Metro stop and the Natural History Museum just 2 blocks away. The room we had was small. […] The bed and pillows were too soft, which made them uncomfortable to us. The only problem we had was with the toilet, and it was fixed promptly. We enjoyed our stay, but probably wont come back here. Read more
"On The Ave...."
Was in a great location on the upper west side. Location was great- near Central Park, Museums, 2 Blocks from the subway, and great view from our room. The very disappointing part of our stay was the fact that when I went to uncover the bed, I found a mentrual period stain on the quilted under padding that can be seen through the white sheets. The sheets […] also had a big gash or rip in it and looked deteriorated. This made me upset to know that you spend your time and money looking for a great place to stay and it's grotesque. They need to keep an eye not only on the cleanliness of the room but the sheets where people lay their heads to sleep. Read more
"on the Ave"
liked it a lot and prolongued my stay. Missing restaurant and cable TV or pay per view. Otherwise it was very good.
"On The Avenue Hotel"
THis hotel has rooms which have "closets" with NO hanging space; I mean less than an 1/8 of an inch hanging space. We had no idea we had to request a room with closet containing hanging space. The hotel staff gracioulsy moved our room but appeared baffled that we were upset by the "Hanging space" or lack there of. We were moved to a room, which was […] an adjoining room, there was a singel door in between the rooms rather than a double door. All conversations from the adjoing room were totally audible. As we were absolutely wiped out and did not want to deal with the front desk on yet another area of dissatisfaction we "toughed" it out. Read more

"great location, nice staff, room needs some TLC"
Enjoyed our stay at "on the ave". very pleased with hotel dispite its need for a little TLC...Window was drafty, cable tv was a bit messed up on certain channels...On the plus side, room was larger than expected, had a nice view, staff was great and the neighborhood is lovely. was told hotel is planning renovations in 2012. we'll probably go back.
"A Footstep Away! On The Avenue Convenience."
Clean, convenient, efficient, pleasant staff, fun two terraces for an illusive moment, job done. Going back again next week, happily.
"great hotel, but could use improvement"
Overall, I love this hotel and have stayed here many times. That said, the room I had this time was cramped and a little shabby. The rug had stains, and the bathroom had no towel bar or place to put toileteries. And the wireless internet was not free. It was called a "superior" room, yet it barely had room for me and my husband. I think you have to […] book a "deluxe room" to really get something that feels luxurious. I might try someplace else next time. Read more
