While the location is perfect for an upper west side experience, the cleanliness and hotel response left us irate. The bathroom had barely been wiped clean and the sheets on one bed had clearly not been changed. when we requested new sheets, they declined due to the hour, until we insisted we would make the bed ourselves. Although they said they would inform the manager, we heard nothing from them, and when we checked at the desk they only vaguely promised an adjustment on future reservations. Take this one off your list!

After reading previous reviews, I had mixed feelings, and ended up being unpleasantly disappointed. The TV wasn't working. I called the front desk 3 times, and each time they said they would send someone to fix it. No one ever showed up. The minibar wouldn't open...even after they told me to push the buttons on the side. The view was terrible, but it's NYC, so I can live with that. The hotel advertises bath robes, and there were barely enough towels, let alone robes. I asked to be moved to another room and was told there was no other room in the entire hotel. The concierge is only open during the day, even on a holiday weekend. I complained to the manger at checkout and all she did was to thank me for letting her know. The best thing about the hotel was the view from the rooftop terrace and the friendly front desk staff. Not worth the 4th star by any means.

I really can't think of anything negative to say! The price was very reasonable, the decor classy and modern, and the room was similar to a normal "non-NYC" hotel room in size. The concierge was extremely helpful each time we had a question. In fact, all of the staff that we encountered were friendly and helpful. We will stay here for sure the next time we visit NYC. Thanks for a very pleasant stay!

I called the front desk to inform them and they said "yes we know the TV doesn't work in that room sorry...and we are totally booked so we have no other rooms" Fine, I can live without TV...but the room was very hot so went to turn on the air...that didn't work either nor did the wall mount hair drier. When I called down about the air I was told to open a window. This place is just a bad hotel in a pretty good location.

Having stayed in New York before and had bad experiences, my expectations were quite low! As my son lives there, we had to go. We chose OTA through Hotels.com and got a real bargain. The hotel, situated between Central and Riverside parks is relatively quiet but lower floors will be noisy. We stayed in a superior room on 12th floor. It was beautifully comfortable with 'not too bad' noise levels. The shower room was functional, rather than luxurious but that is normal in NYC. As with most hotels, the air conditioning could be improved - far too noisy. Service was superb - anything we requested appeared within a few minutes. Highly recommended and we would definitely stay again if we could get a good price deal.

Terrific hotel for the price. I love the upper west side. If you are looking for Times Square, this might be a little out of the way, but it's convenient to the subway and I like staying in a somewhat quieter neighborhood. I've stayed here several times before- always winds up a good value for my business trips. Hallways need new carpets, and the rooms are small, but that applies to most NY hotels. Bathroom was clean, but bath grout lines could have been better- a cleaning with bleach is in order. But nothing more than I've experienced at most other hotels. Funky decor. Since I spent most of my time outisde, the ultra-modern bathroom was fine. Bed was comfy.

It is close to subways but the street its on is more private and I liked that. It was nice coming in at night--they had lighted candles on the outside steps. There is a rooftop sitting area that we really enjoyed and did not have to pay extra for using it. Bathroom is simple but nice. Had places to put your personal items. Beds were comfortable and loved the down comforters. And it was very clean. There are several restaurants in the area but around the corner across Broadway we discovered the Westside Market. Several times we went in there and got really good already prepared food and fruit to take back to the room. Would definately stay there again.

The hotel is in a great location. The price was right however commensurate with the experience. The elevators are very slow and the stairs are not apparently for public consumption. Staff was nice but after asking for towels twice, we never received them. We needed to ask because everyday we were there, we received varying numbers/combinations of towels. However, the rooms were comfortable despite obviously cursory daily cleaning services. The location and the price would be the reasons to return.

The bed was comfortable (with extra pillows) and the bathroom was spotless, sleek and wonderfully modern. Aside from feeling a bit underdressed for the swankiness, it was a great stay. But, as more of a budget traveler, I was sad that there were no vending machines or food options beyond the expensive mini-bar. While there are plenty of eateries nearby for main meals, I was missing that extra something for a late-night snack. I would definitely stay here again and would suggest you do the same.

We were very happy to find a good value in a good location in Manhattan. Unlike other hotels in this price range, we had a comfortable room with private bath and a king size bed. The room was on the small side, but it was comfortable. We were on the 12th floor and it was very quiet. Unlike many hotels these days, they do charge for internet access in the room or in their business center off the lobby. The location was great -- two blocks from one subway line and about six blocks from another. On the Ave is also within walking distance of the Natural History Museum, Central Park, the Met and the Guggenheim. Also very convenient to great restaurants and numerous stores, banks, cleaners, etc. We would definitely return to On the Ave Hotel on our next trip to NYC.

The hotel itself was clean and in a convenient location to catch the subway. The surrounding neighborhood had plenty of places to eat and shop, and it is also within walking distance to the Museum of Natural Science and Central Park. If you plan to spend a lot of time in your room, I would not recommend this hotel as the rooms and bathrooms (only room for one person) are small even by New York standards. If you simply need a nice place to sleep and bathe, then this hotel is perfect for the price. The people at the front desk were rude at check in AND check out, plus the door attendants were practically nonexistent. There is room for improvement, but overall, for the right price I would stay here again.
