"Central location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 6, 2012
The Convent Hotel is located on one of the main streets in Amsterdam and within easy walking distance to the Centraal Train station and Dam Square-so public transportation is a snap. The hotel is well kept and the staff is very friently. The one complaint about the staff is that they do not seem very knowledgeable about typical tourist activities in Amsterdam and we didn't find a concierge staff member to help with some of our questions. Our booking through hotels.com did not include the breakfast, which looked wonderful and was expensive, so we found a lovely little care within a block or two from the hotel for our breakfasts. Lots of tours seem to use the hotel, so the staff is very comfortable speaking in English with everyone. The entrance to the hotel faces the very busy street, but the rooms are all in the back of the hotel and are very quiet. We enjoyed our stay. I would suggest trying to get the breakfast included in the hotel price.
"Easy walk to must see sights"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 5, 2012
The hotel was clean, nice, the staff friendly and helpful, especially the Concierge. The location was great, within walking distance of many restaurants, and things to see in Amsterdam.

"Lovely staff, great location"Reviewed by a Hotels.com guest on May 4, 2012
The room was very small and a bit tight for friends. It would be nice for a couple. But the room had a cozy private terrace. And the staff was wonderful! The two desk personnel we encountered were helpful, went out of their way to make sure we had what we needed for a great visit and made a point of having what we needed before we knew we needed it. The hotel was clean, the food just right and always a fresh cup of coffee waiting for us. I would return without thinking twice.

"Inntel Amsterdam Zaandam - affordable luxury"
Great inexpensive train into city center (12 min) from station across street. Spacious room and bath. Complimentary wireless would have made it perfect. Parking is pricey (16 euros/24 hrs) but less than in town. We'd stay here again without doubt.
"One of kind hotel near Amsterdam"
One of the best decisions we made while planning our trip to Amsterdam, was to stay at this hotel. Very unique structure that appears to have Dutch houses piled on top of one another. Literally, right next to the train station, and very close to Zaanse Schams were you can visit what that area is known for, like windmills, cheese, and wooden shoes. After […] visiting downtown Amsterdam, I was very relieved we chose to stay about 10 minutes (train ride) outside of the city. Also worth noting, is the hotel is within walking distance to shopping and some restaurants. We walked to a grocery store and stocked up on water and Dutch snacks, and also ate at an Asian inspired restaurant, where the food was delicious. Also had espresso and hot chocolate at a local coffee bar that had tempting treats as well. Even more reasons this was a great place to stay! Also worth noting, though, was at check out, the hotel was going to charge me another € 20 per night b/c of booking 3 people in our room. This was one of the questions I had asked hotels.com to check out for me, as I had read others were charged this as well. I wanted assurance that the price I agreed on in advance, was going to be the price I paid in the end. Hotels.com assured me that the price would not change. Once I explained this to the staff at check out, she did not charge me the extra fees, but did tell me it was their policy, and I would be charged in the future if we should stay again. So beware of this. Another rather unique, dare I say, strange thing about this hotel, was the bathroom. It has a rather large, long, window in it that looks into the bedroom. The window is placed right in front of the bathtub. Once again, I had hotels.com call the hotel directly to ask about this, and they were told there was a type of shade placed on the window. There was no shade whatsoever. It was humorous when we first viewed it, but wasn't particularly something we wanted, either. We solved the problem by leaving the closet doo Read more
"It earned a 4"
Myself and two of my cousins were traveling through Germany and Amsterdam. We chose this hotel for 3 basic reasons - 1. location; it was right next to the train station that would transport us to and from downtown City Central. 2. Price; when we researched it on hotels.com it had one of the better prices and was able to accomodate for 3 people. 3. Appearance; […] the outside look is charming and nothing you would see in the States. When we arrived to the hotel the staff at the counter that helped me was very helpful and nice. Sadly, she was the only one. We found the other staff later that night and the next day to be very short and rude. Our stay there was actually pretty good, thought, until check-out time. We had anticipated the additional tax charge, but no other additions. To our surprise we ended up paying an additional 110.00 EURO for a breakfast for three (which was eluded by the front desk associate to be complimentary, and it was not worth the 20+ EUROS/per person we were charged.) There was a "3rd person" accomodation fee included for each night (which we had believed was already added into the original price we paid.) Overall the stay was fine, just wish the additional fees would have been clarified at the time of check-in or on the reservation site. Read more
"Amsterdam Intell Zaandam"
The hotel has an awesome exterior, a nice interior, and is a 15 minute train ride from Amsterdam Centrale. Although the hotel was very clean and the staff was really nice, the only complaint I have is that we were under the impression that we had paid in full for our room with three people (the front desk never told us we were going to be charged extra […] for a third person when we checked in). When we checked out, we were informed that there was a 25 Euro fee per night (so 50 Euros total) for the third person in our room. It was kind of upsetting that we were not informed of the extra charge when we checked in. Aside from that, the hotel was great. Read more
"Great breakfast, diverse neighborhood"
I loved the breakfast. I loved the friendliness and helpfull attitude of the staff. parking can be tricky if your van is 2 meters tall, as they are not sure about the ceiling height of their parking structure. besides that I really liked the feel and the design of the hotel and the caring attitude of the staff!
Beds were not comfortable at all. Room was a decent size and the location was excellent. Staff was friendly, however be aware breakfast is not included. I was made to believe it was included and to my surprise it was not and 16 euros per person is a very HIGH price for a not too great of a breakfast.
"Very Convenient!"
This was an excellent hotel for convenience. Practically right in the Zaan Dam train station, only two stops from Zaan Shans (which is why we stayed there) and two stops from Amsterdam Central. For us (we'd been traveling by train for a week), it was so nice not to have to drag our bags very far. Also, no noise, given it's location. Comfortable, clean, […] great decor, nice restaurant/bar downstairs. I didn't like the pillows, but my husband did. (too big and over stuffed for me) Read more
"Great stay outside the city"
Intel Hotel Zaandam = outside city, but huge clean, modern room...literally right outside the train station…easy ride to downtown Amsterdam (trains usually come every 10 min, and it takes about 20 min to get to Centraal station..Sunday schedule is much less frequent)…Cons: 5.10 euro per person for a RT ride to Centraal, city tax added upon check-out […] (8 euros extra for our 2 night stay) Read more

"Lovely Hotel"
After staying in a 4 star hotel in Amsterdam I quite by accident decided to spend a day in Zaandam at the Inntel Hotel and what a surprise for me. It was easy to get to by train and the room was really lovely and roomy. Everything looked like it was brand new and the bed was so comfortable. I wished I had stayed everyday of my holiday at this hotel. […] I also had a late meal at the hotel restaurant and it was very yummy. The hotel staff were very friendly and helpful. This is definitely one of my favorite hotels. Read more
"GREAT hotel - a thorough review"
What everyone has written here is accurate and thorough. I'll just add a few tidbits. One) DO NOT be concerned at all that this hotel is a train ride away from Amsterdam! I I had initial concerns and actually found that I preferred being outside the city. You could have all your fun and then go home to a safe and quiet stylish hotel for a fraction […] of the cost. The trains are clean, quiet, efficient and plentiful! The Dutch have trains down to a science and they run incredibly on time. This hotel is literally a 2 minute walk to the train station. Its virtually connected. So, you can walk out the hotel, board a train and within 15 minutes be at Amsterdam Central which is a fine place to arrive. Remember, Amsterdam is relatively small so you can walk or take one of the many trams to any destination in no time. Arriving from the airport is a 20-30 minute train ride - sometimes as short as 2 stops if boarding an express train. Train arrives and departs from within Schiphol airport 2) The health club which every guest has access to is incredible. They have a nice lap pool (photos online) and the steam room and sauna are new and work great. I had come off a grueling schedule before arriving at the hotel and this was just what I needed to feel great again 3) I can honestly say the bed and the breakfast buffet (included in my rate) were the two best I have ever experienced. We're talking high quality cappuccinos, meats, salmon, breads and even champagne for mimosas. The bed is OUTSTANDING. Sooooo soft and comfy with fresh new white linens 4) There is a walking outdoor mall steps from the hotel. This is great if you need to hit the supermarket which has a wonderful selection of boxed lunches, salads, etc. also a large water is 50euro which is great to stock up on for your day trips or in the room. There are a number of clothing stores here as well 5) a short walk from the hotel is a place to rent bicycles for only 5euro a day. You can bike to Zaanse Schans, a historic ar Read more
"Great!!!"
My adult daughter and I stayed in this hotel last month. Great choice!!! the location is so perfect. Do not miss going to the close town where you can see the windmills! We enjoyed their spa. Rooms are big, modern and clean. The hotel is new and a very short walk from the train station. It has electric stairs, useful for your luggage. And if you forgot […] your adapter for your electric devices, they sell it at the front desk...so convenient. A lot better than staying in Amsterdam. Read more
"But the location"
Hotel is a very comfortable and 4 star hotel. But tle location is actually not the best, because you must take a train which is very close to the hotel just one minute, but we were lookink for a city centre hotel or at least close to the city. We took the train and the second stop....city center..it takes about 15 mites from the hotel. The hotel is […] a boutique hotel and the staff is very well prepared. Is safe place (very important Is very clean Is 4 star hotel category Excellent facilities (sauna, turkish, pool, free internet at the lobby) Read more

"Under Construction"
The Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Zaandam is the epicenter for local construction and there is not much good for a weary traveller when jackhammers are in the mix. Our stay at the Inntel Hotels Amsterdam Zaandam was marred by terrible parking, a maze of constuction paths in and out of the hotel, and hidden fees/taxes. I reallly wanted to like the Inntel […] Hotels Amsterdam Zaandam as my daughters are fans of Modern Art. However our stay was doomed from the moment we could not find the entrance as the hotel and everything around it was consumed by cranes and construction. Very disappointing. The noise was more than a minor inconvenience and we were TAXED an addition $50 per room that consumed any savings we could have realized by staying outside of Central Amsterdam. Bottom line: Look elsewhere. The cost cannot be justified by the consrtuction inconvenience, lack of parking, and average service. Read more
"Great hotel in a great location"
The room was comfortable and clean. The breakfast was very good.
"great hotel"
I like this hotel. Everything was perfect and exactly what I expected from the description. It was clean and new without any of the hassles of the older buildings downtown. I is a few feet from the train which takes you to the Amsterdam central station in 12 minutes for less then 3 euro. There is construction outside as the city seems to be redoing […] walkways and streets but it was not a problem and there was no noise with the windows closed. The only problem I would say with my room is that the shower temperature fluctuates quite a bit. I guess you must b willing to accept a temperature range. I would certainly stay here again, though. "Large rooms and great location"
I loved this hotel and would gladly go back. A large parking garage is nearby for easy parking. The hotel is very close to the train station for easy traveling. The rooms were clean and very large. Nicely decorated to feel like home instead of a hotel room.

Although there is not much surrounding this hotel, the train station less than a minute walk away is a big plus. Staff was helpful and the room clean and comfortable with terrific whirlpool tub, in room sauna, a great shower and a big comfortable bed. Short train ride to downtown.
"Great location"
This hotel is in a good location. The train station is right across the street! It is an easy quick ten minute ride to Amsterdam. The hotel looks new. The rooms clean and the staff were all very nice and helpful.
"Inntel Hotel Amsterdam Zaandam"
Still under construction but the room itself was lovely - except for the thick layer of dust and construction debris left under the bed. I dropped my earring under the bed and was afraid to wear it afterwards! To get to the hotel, you have to wind around the construction at the train station, cross a confusing series of roads, and step your way over […] the boards laid over the construction debris. But a brand new hotel next a train station is a plus. The rooms are well designed and equipped and a fridge was an unexpected benefit. Read more

"Great location to train"
We would recommend this hotel if interested in visiting Amsterdam and you don't want to pay much. It is very close to the train station and about a 12 min train ride to Amsterdam Central. Make sure you request new linens or you won't get clean sheets. Service was good, food at restaurant was GREAT. If renting a bike, rent from the bike shop right next […] door for half the rental price from the hotel. Good bikes and good store hours. $6 Euros for the whole day...great bike ride to Amsterdam. "Very Convenient"
I had never been to the Amsterdam area before and in going I went alone and for only one day as i returned from a trip to South Africa. This hotel was recommended to me by people who fly with various airlines as it is where they are put up while they wait to fly back to their origin. While the hotel is about 15k's from downtown it is the closest hotel […] to the main trains in the amsterdam area. the walk from the train station to the hotel was barely 200 meters making it perfect for someone who had 3 weeks worth of clothes as well as accumulated souvenoirs. I would definately stay at the same place again should I happen to find myself in the Amsterdam area again in the future. Read more
"Breakfast Not Included"
We are disappointed because we had been led to believe it included breakfast -- both from the website and from the clerk on duty when we checked in. When we checked out (with another clerk), she said her colleague "had made a mistake".
"Comfortable and clean"
We chose this hotel for the convenience of being close to the railway station and other amenities, we found the staff very helpful and friendly, our room extremely comfortable, our only complaint was breakfast far too expensive, we ate only the one morning because we felt 15 euros per person a little too much, under 10euros would have encouraged us […] to use it every morning, we bought the makings for a continental breakfast and the 30 euros went towards our lunches, we would certainly return. "Excellent stay in a superb location"
Good and friendly Staff. Very very good location, u hardly take one minute to reach the hotel from the Zaandam train station. Zaandam itself is well connected from both Schipol and Amsterdam Centraal. During the peak tulip season this was the cheapest hotel and surprisingly it offered a very good service. Apart from the restaurant getting closed at […] 10.30, everything ticked to the top marks. Read more

"LOVE IT!"
Thanks to all the other reviews we weren't scared to book a hotel outside Amsterdam, and really it was no problem. Wow, the hotel is so great! The best I stayed in so far. The service was absolutely perfect, they helped us with any silly question we might have. The bed was amazing, the shower too, we didn't try the bathtub, but I'm sure that was perfect […] too. I loved how quit and nice it was around the hotel, and with the small area with food was just what we needed for the day we didn't want to go in to Amsterdam. The service in general in Zandaam is like nothing I've ever experienced. I had to work a bit, but my friend tried the swimming pool and the fitness room, and said it was so nice, and so cool to have the opportunity. You should try the breakfast, starting the day with mimosa is the best way to start the day. I'm so happy we stayed here, and I am definitely coming back, for sure! The only two bad things I want to mention is the TERRIBLE pizza we ordered up to the room. It said pizza margarita, and what we got was a frozen pizza, that tasted like plastic. And to pay 17,50 Euro for that is such a disappointment. And the other "bad" thing is the internett. It might be fast further down, but in the 11 floor, it was really bad, and I needed it for work. Other then that P E R F E C T stay! We LOVED it! Read more
"Nice hotel but the odd minor niggle"
Very nice new hotel extremely close to the train station. My grumbles are that there are only 2 lifts for the whole building and the queues to get in them can be horrendous.
Very Good but breakfast way too expensive
Hotel was really nice, clean and only two-minute walk from the station; however, service at restaurant and bar was quite slow!!! Would have expected a different level of service. Also, why is it that additional beds are always crap!! We pay for this bed too, don't we?
"do not disturb sign"
The only problem i had with the hotel was i left the do not distrube sign on the door and informed the cleaner i will not be needing any cleaning service this weekend, i was shocked to find when i had been out for a few hours somone had entered my room and made the beds and closed the curtains even tho THE DO NOT DISTRUB SIGN was on the door apart from […] that i will staying at inntel hotels in the future Read more
"Overall, a comfortable and peaceful stay."
Fantastic hotel to look at, and lovely, clean and comfortable rooms with the only disappointment being the 'queen sized bed' actually being two singles pushed together (and didn't stay together). Location very easy to get to city centre (10 mins on train) but very little near the hotel itself, apart from a few shops, a day time noodle bar and a sole […] restaurant so if you're a real night owl you're better off staying in the centre itself. Otherwise, trains do run until 1am so if that's late enough, you then get the benefit of a peaceful sleep, being away from all the noise. Read more

"Inntel Zaandam - Great value for money"
- Loved the design which pulled in elements of the local community. - Room was spacious with a couch, desk, small side table and chairs. Bonus was a fridge, a portable cooking element with a couple of pots and pans. Bed was a little soft. - The pool, steam room and sauna were lovely. - The hotel is located very close to the train station, and it takes […] around 12 minutes to get to Amsterdam, and costs 5 euros for a day return. You can also go directly to the airport. - My only complaint was breakfast - it was the full buffet at 16 euros or nothing; so if you just wanted a coffee and croissant, you are SOL! - There is lots of construction around the hotel right now, but that didn't bother us. - There's a great noodle bar just over the road. - I would definitely stay theer again. "Inntel Hotel in Zaandam, Holland"
Easy journey to and from Amsterdam Central Station. Comfortable bed. Basic decor. From the day I arrived to the day I left neither the Wifi or the fridge in the room worked (a business travellers essentials). The area surrounding the hotel is a building site (September 2011). Good hotel with friendly helpful staff

The town isn't very nice. A bit rough with lots of rubbish around. Hotel wasn't bad ok. Great Internet :)
"Excellent"
The location and quality of the hotel are excellent. Only complaint is the entrance is too small and hard to locate. It will be tricky if you are driving. Apart from that, not much to complain.
