A well situated hotel, clean bedroom with a decent bathroom. We were also upgraded to a canal view room so overall we were very happy with our stay. We'd certainly stay again.

Booked a superior room which was then upgraded to what was called a junior suite. Nothing like a suite, just a larger room. Dread to think how small the regular rooms must be! Was worth the fabulous view though...beautiful. The hotel has original period features in reception and fantastic stairwell...however looks as if the rooms were last upgraded […] in the sixties and forgotten since then...peeling paint....grubby decor...creeking floors. Customer service inconsistent...ranging from very good to very poor. In theory had wi fi in room but connection impossible most of the time. Hotel in a lovely location overlooking river Amstel. The hotel looks a little jaded and could do with a refurbishment. That said they were replacing carpets on the stairs ,so maybe it is the start of some improvements. Nice central position with plenty of bars and cafe's in the location. Easy to walk to any of the major attractions in 15-20 mins.

So much better than I expected from the comments. Yes a bit faded, but clean, comfortable and in an excellent position - at the edge of the city centre but easily within walking distance of the museums and markets. I read the comments before I went and felt a bit concerned however these were unfounded. Hotel is about 7-8 years overdue for remodelling. Rooms are small but this is normal for AMS but room has far too much unusable furniture which makes it appear even smaller than it is. The hotel is outwardly elegant and in a great location. Having not stayed there before, but knowing the city, it looked a great place to stay. But this is where my praise has to end. The hotel is marketed as a 4 star hotel and certainly priced as one, but nothing about the hotel is deserving of 4 stars or such a high room rate. The lobby is fine and […] the staff polite. The one lift works on and off, so I took to the stairs which had thread bare carpet. The room was very small and cramped with barely room to walk around the bed...which was very uncomfortable. The safe had a broken lock, hot drink facilities were limited with no milk available and the TV was at least 25 years old, which is probably when the room was last refitted and decorated. Venturing out of the room we found there was no hotel bar, which basically meant go out or sit in your tiny room. Whilst searching for the elusive bar it was clear that the rest of the hotel was in a state of disrepair. Chipped paint, tired decoration and dead light bulbs. All of this is acceptable if it is what you are expecting and what you've paid for. Read more

On the positive side, the hotel is in an excellent location and the room was clean and tidy. However the room was very small and badly in need of updating. The toilet and sink both had cracks in them and the decor looked like it was from the 1980's. In our opinion this is definitely not the standard you would expect from a 4 star hotel.

We are three boys from Norway who stayed at 313. We were orignaly just 2 persons but ordered a extra bed in the reseption, which they fixed right away. They were also fun but polight. The placement is perfect , you are not crammed in a part place, but you'l just have to walk 5 minnutes to be ;)

We stayed at NH Doelen over New Year and for 4 nights. We asked for and got a quiet room with views over the water. We loved everything about this hotel and our stay. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful; very nice room, slightly old-fashioned but we loved it -reasonable size, too; room rate via Hotels.com was great. We have previously stayed at […] Eden's American Hotel, twice, but thought this far nicer -and better value- in many ways and would come back here again whenever we can. When we checked in things looked good. The entrance is nice and the staff are friendly and welcoming. This however is the end of the good stuff. There is one elevator. Not so bad you might think however it takes ~30 seconds to move one floor. It says it should not be used by more than four persons however three with luggage would be a push. It is in […] constant use with people queuing and even hotel staff using it to move laundry etc. Even for someone with difficulties taking the stairs is easier. Our room was at the end of a poorly lit hallway with broken fixtures. Upon entering we discovered - A small room with décor dating back a few decades that had not been maintained A safe with the lock broken off Broken mini-bar A TV I recognise from the early 1990s Balcony covered in litter and cigarette butts Pillows with no cases What can only be described as a wonky bed - mind you they do say lying with your feet above your head is good for your heart, perhaps this was the purpose.. During the course of our stay we also found that the walls may as well be made of paper. Being able to hear every word of a conversation next door is not acceptable. Amsterdam is Amsterdam and people will be up late, combine these two facts and it's really not much fun. I had the misfortune of falling ill while staying here, not anything to do with this hotel however having to ride out food poisoning in such a dark and dank little room is an experience I wish to forget. Very friendly and helpful staff allowed us to check in at 9.30 in the morning and even upgraded our room. The downside was that the mini bar was not working and the room was overdue a makeover but we had marvellous views over the canal which more than made up for that. Placed in a quiet yet cozy street in the centre of Amsterdam, the NH Doelen provides great service from friendly staff, that seem to enjoy their jobs--even if they don't enjoy it, they don't make it your problem. We, arriving late at night, were very tired, and filling out forms was the last thing we wanted to do. But the receptionist was very helpful […] and patient and we finished in no time at all. We then went to our room and found it to be the perfect size, with enough space to be able to move comfortably, but not too big or small--also keep in mind we ordered an extra bed. The bathroom was spacious and clean, and housekeeping was very generous with their complimentary toiletries. The room was also very accomodating, supplied with a kettle and safe--both worked well, bless them. The staff was very helpful when we wanted to find places to eat. They managed to track down an old memory from thirty-five years ago, which made our day! And while waiting for our dinner guest to meet us, we discovered a nice lounge to relax in, away from the lobby area. Overall, the NH Doelen was a very good hotel, and we would recommend it to anyone looking for a stress-free hotel. Read more

Our room needed a total reno, the T.V. was so old, I half expected the Lucy show to come on. We did not try the very expensive breakfast, unable to secure local financing.
