Aston Aloha Beach Hotel - Kapaa

The room was damp and smelled like a wet dog. Staff was kind and helpful, and the free redbox rentals are a nice perk. The Aston Aloha was probably a really nice hotel in the 70s or 80s, but it's visibly falling apart and is dark and sad today. Can't beat the price, but that's for a reason.

the hotel is close to Lydgate Park and to the ocean and has a beautiful outwardly the rules were not that good because of the windows would not open and we're not clean the TVs did not work well at all service was excellent front desk people were excellent

the only issue was the hard bed, we fixed that by putting the sofa bed mattress as a pillowtop. room needed aired out as does all closed up rooms in Kauai, overall the cottage was fantastic and pleasant.I would stay there again because of the PERFECT location and the cottage was private.

Keep in mind this is an older hotel, not dirty, but not what most people expect from Aston. That being said, the beds are ok, all of the rooms are dated, think 1970's. But it is clean, and safe. The service is good, the free breakfast coupons are ok, but to upgrade to the buffett is not worth it, and they will charge a daily fee for the free breakfast […] and internet, which is only available in the lobby. (yes you read that right) The hotel is close to Lihue and Kappa, and right next to Lydgate state park with is a great place to BBQ and surf. The rooms are basic and clean. The overall hotel needs an update. Their extra $15.00 charge for certain things such as the coffee in the room and continental breakfast/wifi in lobby..not worth it. Stayed at the Kauai Beach Resort next and must say that was worth the extra money.

The staff was great, including those in the restaurant;. the dinner we had was very good; breakfast buffet was ok. The pool area, grounds, waterfall- fish pool area and open entry lobby and ocean views are very nice. The two areas needing improvement: The hotel and rooms need remodeling, as it is run down, and the wifi service rarely worked.

Our room was a basic hotel room, but we could see the water. It's an older hotel, but we had no complaints on cleanliness . We checked in late due to long flight. Only one clerk on duty. She was having lots of problems with checkins because of new computer system and key cards were't working. Same issue when we checked out the next day.

On arrival, I was charged $15.62 per day besides what I originally paid for room on booking. They said that was resort fee or amenity fee which I thought was not justified. The room window looks like not cleaned for a long time,and wall paintings on many places were faded.

Hotel Rooms were spacious and pretty clean. This hotel is a short walk to the beach which is nice. Hotel has dining area. Misleading extra fee charge non optional for continental breakfast which is a slice of fruit and a small cinnamon roll. Would stay again

The hotel hosted 2 big concerts on Friday and Saturday night with no notice while booking, Is the only concert venue on the island from what the locals told me. The restaurant and lounge close early otherwise, couldn't get a snack or drink there after 8pm. The continental breakfast is a sliver of fruit and a cinnamon roll the size of my palm, very small. The Aston for all my low rankings is a hotel that is simply past it's prime, appears to have never in the 40 years it's been opened to have had any upgrades and does not seem to care. It is very centrally located, but they charge an additional $10 a day resort fee as if they were timeshares are a resort. This is not a resort, it's a last resort. The […] staff are friendly and I think they give it their best shot for what the owner has left them to work with. But with amenities such as painted over mold in the rooms and long black hairs all over the floors along with bedspread that feel like they haven't been laundered since the 70's you'd be better off somewhere else if you can afford it. To offer WiFi, and, only have access to it in the lobby in front of the desk was disappointing. And, I chose a room with a King-Sized bed with a pull-out Sofa bed. The sofa bed was not even made , nor, did it even have sheets to make. I would figure that the only reason the price of the room was economical was that it was the off season.

Hotel dated and rundown. Breakfast "included" in price of room was 2 small pieces of melon and a dry pastry and coffee. No substitutions. Upon arrival, were informed there was an additional "leisure" fee - for coffee in the room, newspaper and use of pool facilities.

Now I know why the price was reasonable. The whole place needs a total overhaul. They either don't clean because they think the old decor with hide the dirt or the don't care that the place is dirty. It was no more and no less than the reviews I read on Yelp. Great location, and good hotel service with professional & polite staff. We got a "basement"room where the hallway smells musty and our room smelled musty. One of the lamps didn't work and when I slid open the screen door before the sliding glass door, it came off in my hands. We couldn't walk […] straight out of our sliding glass door because of bars. We had to pay a $20 "resort fee" which covers DVD rentals & games; non of which we were interested in. We are in HAWAII !! This service would be a good one for families with children. I opened the sliding glass door and aired the room out, but couldn't leave it that way at night because of the roosters that crow at all times. The air conditioning helped, but we had to set in on really cold. On the plus side is that it was conveniently located; close to the ocean which we enjoyed a long walk. The price was the best I found online. We were not in the room that much; only for sleeping, so we did not ask for a new room. The room was clean, we had a refrigerator that was bigger than a mini. The bed was comfortable but the pillows were the thinnest I have ever seen. We were offered a "free" breakfast, but knew it was an information session for the resort, so did not attend. Despite the issues, I would consider staying again, as long as I didn't have to stay on the lowest level. Read more

2 stars would be a stretch for this hotel. It's really dumpy and the owners need to give it a serious overhaul..stay somewhere else. We only stayed 1 night and got out...we will be fumigating our luggage for bed bugs after our stay.

Aloha Beach Hotel is a great way to stay on Kauai and not use all your vaca money on lodging. It's clean, comfortable, and conveniently located (pretty much smack in the middle of the west side). I have stayed at many hotels around the world. I have to say this is on my top 5 of worst stay ever. 1) Very Cold: The AC unit, you cannot even turn off or adjust temperature. You cannot changed from 66F. We we're freezing throughout the night. 2) When we booked our hotel online, the room details read: Microwave. There was no microwave, the front desk […] told us only in the sweet which have Microwave...well, it did NOT state in the reservation detail when we book the room. 3) the Room Phone didn't even work, had to use my personal cell to call front desk. Trouble call came to see about the phone but they could not do anything about the phone. 4) We are living in the 21 century, using PS2 to play DVD...come on!, and the TV is tube TV??? Hello, we are living in the flat screen era. Not in the 80's. 5) The gym was a laugh, this has to be the worst hotel gym ever. 6) I thought that DVD card that was provided to us when we checked in we get two free movies but when we checked out, they charged us $10.00 fee for amenity fee. A cheap hotel in Hawaii? This was but we got what we paid for. Awful beds, safe not working, ice machine not working and not even the rooms we wanted. BUT...the location made it worth it!
