You are paying more for the location than the ammenities. Beds were so-so and there was not nearly as much space as I thought there would be considering what we paid for the room. At first we were given a room that someone had smoked in. But that was easily resolved. Otherwise the place was nice. Not fancy, but comfortable and a great location. Beware of breakfast though, its GBP 19. Wow! I was told you can get it for GBP11 if you join their loyalty program. We were looking for a hotel in the middle of Cambridge where we could park the car and walk about the city and the Crowne Plaza was it. It's location could not be better for walking to all the colleges and the local restaurants. I stayed with two other family members for four days in this hotel while visiting someone at Cambridge University. The beds were comfortable (good mattresses) and the room clean which were my main two concerns. The location of the hotel was excellent, just one block away from Emmanuel College, banks, shopping mall (Grand Arcade), food store. I did […] have a few complaints: - The lighting in the room was poor, not enough lights and the existing lights were not bright enough. So the room was too dark at night and not comfortable for reading or talking with several people. - The desk chair had to be replaced right away, it was falling apart (screws were loose). - The wireless Internet was excessively expensive, especially by American standards, 35 pounds for 4 days per computer and my family had three laptops to use. To save money, we took turns using one laptop which was a great inconvenience. Given how important the Internetiis, the hotel should allow several laptops or smartphones per Internet account, and charge a lower fee. - Like many hotels, there weren't enough wall sockets to power all the electronic devices we had to use (cameras, cellphones, laptops). I had anticipated this and brought a power brick with a British adapter, but that still was not enough. This isn't the 20th century anymore, wake up! My family did not try the hotel restaurants and bars so nothing to say there. Read more

The scaffolding gives the lobby the feel of a building site and things are not much better in the rooms - one of our party's room had a curtain rail fall down and a cupboard door come off the hinges in the space of 30 minutes. Overall a great disappointment; this hotel has a serious problem with rough bars nearby. A consistent stream of revellers exit these establishments shouting and screaming well into the early hours. If you are on business and need a good night's sleep, do not book this hotel.

What a perfect choice to be within walking distance of everthing. Couple of blocks from the market. Easy to catch a bus to every where. 5 min cab ride to the train station. Hotel is clean and comfortable. Everyone was so friendly and helpful. We had a great time. Would definitly stay here again.

Nice hotel, great location, great staff. Three problems: (1) The lights in the room were so bad that I felt like I was in a dungeon. (2) The elevators were both out of order for part of my stay, and one of the elevators was out of order all of my stay. Glad I didn't have to carry my suitcase up and down the stairs! In fact, the bartender told us that he will keep the bar open "as long as there are customers, as late as they like." There is a computer in the lobby hooked up to a printer which is free for the customers at the bar, so you can check in and print your boarding pass. Probably enough for tourists. Not the cheapest hotel in Cambridge, but one of the best, both in terms of modern conveniences and location in the heart of old Cambridge, a few blocks from the city centre and many of the colleges. We spent 2 nights at this hotel. It was fine but I think there are nicer places to stay in Cambridge. It's in a noisy, rougher part of Cambridge but still only a short walk to the scenic university buildings. The room was quite dark but comfortable. We stayed one night in Cambridge City. It was ok, but seemed overpriced for the quality of the facilities. Everything was fine, but felt quite dated. I was also disappointed that in this day and age they charge extra for WiFi. On the plus side, it was well-located, and within walking distance of most sights in Cambridge.

We booked a king suite for our 2 night stay, and we were extremely dissapointed that all the suites in the hotel are positioned right behind the lifts. Needless to say all you can hear is the lift going up and down and the doors creaking open. We asked to be moved and were told we could be moved to a normal king room, but they could not offer us a suite […] due to all being positioned next to the lifts. This I really dont understand, why put your most expensive rooms in the noisiest place!! We had a comfortable stay in our new room, though i do feel for the cost of the rooms they are starting to look quite tatty, i.e. a big crack across the sink! Bed was comfortable and room temperature was easy to control. I would stay here again, because of the location, but I would not pay the extra for a suite. It would have been nice to be offered a refund for some of the cost of the suite as we didn't get to stay in it. Read more

It's still a good hotel and you can't beat the location, However, it's not quite as nice any longer as it was when it was still a Crowne Plaza. Starting from the toiletries in the room, it all feels a bit cheaper.

Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the Cambridge City Hotel. The staff were friendly and helpful and ensured we had everything we needed to make it a pleasure to stay. The hotel is spotless and as it is situated next door to John Lewis and the centre of Cambridge, what more could you ask. We will definitely be returning.
