"Good clean hotel--bad service from hotel manager"
The hotel was mainly great--but the service in the bar was dismal. The hotel's beds were comfortable, the rooms were clean, the buffet breakfast pretty good and there was great service elsewhere in the hotel. However, we ordered two cocktails that were genuinely horrible, took one sip and asked to send them back. The bartender brought over a surly manager […] who wanted to know what was wrong with the cocktails. We explained. She gave us pretty dirty looks and then asked what she was supposed to do about it. My partner suggested taking them back and not charging us. The manager offered new cocktails. We stated that these were so terrible that we had no faith in the bartender. She asked again what she was supposed to do then and my partner again asserted that we shouldn't pay for a bourbon drink without bourbon that tasted like peach schnapps and a gin martini that was essentially soda water. The manager got up and walked away--and indication that, apparently--we were understood. It was shockingly bad service from hotel management. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location, great hotel."
Great location, great hotel. Good breakfast, excellent room. Good bed, good shower. Recommended.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
This hotel is an excellent choice for Cambridge. It is very well-run and comfortable. The room was spacious and well-equipped. The breakfast was delicious with many choices. I asked for a hot cereal and they made it for me every morning -- also hot, frothed milk for coffee. The location was very central making walking easy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Excellent hotel, central to all Cambridge sights, good breakfast, welcoming and helpful staffGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice hotel in great location"
The hotel is very central in Cambridge: a few minutes walk away from town center and from King's College. The room we had was in very good shape. The breakfast had a nice selection. All in all, a good experience.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Hotel in the City Center"
This hotel is in a great spot in Cambridge close to the colleges and shopping and a short walk from the bus line from London and a short cab ride from the train station (about 1 1/2 miles if you feel ambitious). It is modern and up to date and the staff is welcoming, helpful and friendly. The included breakfast was excellent and plentiful as well. My […] only (minor) complaint is that the walls are a bit thin and the noise from the neighbors was a bit much. Overall a great place to stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
This hotel was most suitable to our overnight stay in Cambridge. Staff was most helpful and welcoming. It is a good thing that there is refurbishment in progress as the halls and rooms are in dire need of same. However the linens were fresh, crisp and clean and the beds were very comfortable. Free, hassle free internet...bonus! Convenient location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Very Central Hotel - just remodeled"
Got a bottle of champagne in room as we we the first guests after a complete remodel - it was like a brand new room in a new hotel. Staff very helpful. Very close to center of town. They have parking, it was $18 a day which is fair for the locationGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Centrally located, neat hotel"
We were in Cambridge for a day and a night, and this hotel was a great fit for our stay. Centrally located, we took a taxi to and from the train station, but walked everywhere else. The facilities were beautiful and the staff was very helpful. Breakfast was included and was a great start to our day.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Would stay again"
This is a big type hotel for our style but we enjoyed very much. Stayed with my wife at the center of Cambridge close to everything. Usually I use a bit more cheaper hotels, but for the 3 nights with work and pleasure involved it was perfect and would do it again in a similar situation.Genuine Expedia guest review
Furnishings spare but comfortable. Staff attentive and helpful. Fabulous breakfast buffet! Close to downtown and many local attractions. Room a bit stuffy when it was cool and the air conditioner didn't come on.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"What a great find! Perfectly located in Cambridge."
Very clean and friendly hotel. Great for families. Within walking distance of sites, pubs and cafes. Easy access to tour buses and downtown area. We would recommend the hotel to any friend or family. Staff was very nice. Rooms were clean.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Central position, big rooms, slow staff"
The room was large and quiet at evening/night. However, the two beds were pretty uncomfortable (probably quite hold), and there was some renovation going on, so starting from more or less 8:00AM there was an unpleasant sound of an hammer. Breakfast was good, the staff good. However, I tried to have a late lunch and another time a simple lunch, and the […] staff was quite slow, essentially they forgot me both times. This was annoying given I was on a business trip and had to go to meetings Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"In house noise and construction"
In house noise due to construction that started early morning and could be hear all over the hotel was awful. Air conditioning was knocked out due to construction so our room was miserably hot for over 24 hours with no relief. Hotel was nice and extremely convenient. Good amenities. Nice breakfast . The problems with the construction noise starting […] at 7:30 every day of the week and on weekends was just too much....some days it sounded like a tuba was being played in the room next to us, others like a jackhammer was in the room next to us. When we said something (several times) about the noise, we were told that the 4the floor was undergoing renovations... Which is all good and fine but construction should probably be limited to at least later hours on weekends! Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very Nice Location and friendly staff"
I was a little disappointed at checkin when we booked 2 Queen beds and they were not. Smaller than expected. Hotel going thru some renovation with rooms and garage so some noise early one morning but we were warned the night before. Staff very helpful and nice. Great daily breakfast and hotel close to most all the sites. Took a nice 45 minute walk to […] the Orchard Tea Experience. "Lovely stay, lovely weather"
We stayed there for 2 days to put my son's stuff in storage prior to him starting university in October. I'd never visited Cambridge before and it is beautiful, charming, small, and welcoming. It's a walking town, no need for a car. The hotel was perfect with 2 beds per room and breakfast included. We had dinner there one night, the staff could not […] have been more helpful and the food was delicious. The hotel is centrally located and within easy walking distance of everything. Went punting and that was fun. Visited Grantchester on the second day - another beautiful day out. Woul stay there again in a heartbeat. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
I stayed here for two nights. The room was clean and the hotel was relatively centrally located. On the second night, a fire alarm went off in the middle of the night (2:30am), after five minutes it turned off. About 30 minutes after finally getting back to bed, it went off again, this time at 3:30am. At this point, I left my room and took the emergency […] exit outside. Upon waiting outside for what seemed like a good 30 minutes, it turned off again. In total, I ended up getting about 3 hours of sleep that night, since I needed to be at a business function at 8 the next morning. When I got up and decided to take a shower, I discovered that the hot water was not working (no water pressure from the valve). Upon checking out, there was no apology from the staff or any offer to make things right (in fact, the situation was not even acknowledged). I paid for two basic needs: sleep and a shower in the morning, neither of these needs was met. I will not be staying here again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Central to all tourist attractions and shops"
We enjoyed our stay at the Cambridge City Hotel very much - had the best night's sleep in a long time. The staff were very pleasant and the room was very comfortable and attractive. Mostly it was very central to everything we planned to do in Cambridge. One criticism only was that although the breakfast was very comprehensive and plentiful, the 'Full […] English' was cold (as so often happens with a buffet-style breakfast). But we would still recommend the Hotel to anyone visiting Cambridge. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel, super convenient, great people"
Been to Cambridge from the States many times. Stayed at a couple of hotels over the years, found the Cambridge City Hotel to be the best. Formerly the Crowne Plaza, this hotel has always offered a good value (although not always the lowest price) in terms of accomodations and service. Nicely appointed rooms, helpful and friendly staff, good breakfasts. […] Very centrally located to the University, pubs like the Eagle and shopping at Grand Arcade and Lion's. "Good location, but surly staff at times"
My husband, 3-year old son and I stayed for three nights and found the hotel well-situated. Our flight had been delayed massively and I emailed ahead to say we did intend to stay but we would arrive very late (01.30 at night). We were greeted and speedily checked in upon our arrival, for which we were grateful. The staff were pleasant enough, though […] at times when asked what we thought were innocent enough questions, were a little surly, for lack of a better term. The beds are rock hard, but the rooms are clean enough and the hotel is very quiet (though perhaps we visited at a quiet time of the year). Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"One of the better hotels in Cambridge."
Great location. Comfortable beds. A nice big bathtub. This is one of the nicer places I've stayed in Cambridge, yet at a very reasonable price. I'd definitely recommend it.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Nice but pricey for what you get-- great location"
I'm sure market factors are at play, but I've paid less in central London for nicer room- recent redo is nice, but nothing special. My only overall complaint is that you better have your "do not disturb" sign off of your door by 8:30am, or they will skip your housekeeping (you do get a nice little note under the door) until you request-- an added hassle. […] Finally, the hotel tolerated the room down the hall setting our stinky sneakers for almost the whole 4 days we where there. When we visited the hotel was undergoing maintenance to the exterior and workmen were walking on the scaffolding outside the window until 6:00pm. The toilet didn't flush during the afternoon ; we called housekeeping to fix it but our request was ignored for a couple of hours. On calling housekeeping a second time a couple of hours later, we were told […] that the water had been turned off by the maintenance workmen. At this point we left the hotel but all was fixed on our return. The hotel was centrally located by a shopping mall and market. The counter staff were friendly and helpful. This is the second time I am staying in this hotel. The location is excellent, next to shops and restaurants. The hotel needs some renovation work. "Good Hotel, Poor Bar Service"
No issues with the hotel. Great staff too. But had dinner at the hotel bar restaurant and had simply horrible service. I covered the back of the check with notes about how badly the waiter performed. "Don't stay here....."
The hotel is like something out of a 70s English TV show, perhaps the saint or the English movie the Italian job. After checking in my family including elderly mum,( we were coming from all over the world for a wedding) were told that the water was going to switched off in the morning at 9 am to 4 PM.Not good if if you want to wake and do your ablutions […] like a normal human being... The hotel had no problem checking us in early. We were asked about meals and internet access up front. Everyone was friendly, personable and helpful. "EXCELLENT location makes this one a must"
I stayed here for two nights and have only good things to say. The location is top-notch. The rooms were comfortable and clean. The bar/restaurant was perfectly fine. It's not the fanciest hotel (the decor is all a little dated) but for a good night's stay in Cambridge, you can't go wrong.Genuine Expedia guest review
Centrally located. Well maintained property with a wonderful restaurant. Room was poorly appointed with probably the most uncomfortable bed I've slept in in years. Desk chair was too wobbly to sit in. No mini bar (empty frig only) and the bar didn't have bottled soda to take away. Needs some help.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Comfortable and convenient"
We enjoyed using the Cambridge City hotel as our base of operations in town. It was very conveniently located. The only downside was no ala carte breakfast menu availability. "great location but overpriced for what it is"
Great location if you're visiting with someone at Kings College in Cambridge but disappointing amenities and rooms. Looks like a fancy palace on the outside, but is nothing more than a regular Inn on the inside. Poorly decorated and overheated room (heating system insists on turning itself back on after you turn it off...probably didn't know how to […] use it, still very annoying), pealing wall paper, raggedy old 4/3 TV. None of the English charm we were looking for. Breakfast is not included in room price and they charge 17 GBP for it! Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
