The hotel was luxurious but unfortunately our room was next to the breakfast room, so after a late night at a wedding we were woken at half 6 by staff setting the room up, and then the guests began arriving at 8. This made for a poor sleep and a very tired drive home!

Staff were extremely welcoming, attentive and helpful. Could not thank them enough. Room was lovely and relaxing - good blend of old and new - and all creature comforts catered for. Bar and Lounge also very cosy and comfortable with unusual and tasteful decor. Afternoon tea was fine - a little disappointing - chilly sandwiches, rather dry/bland scones, […] dry stollen bread. Cannot comment on dinner as we had an engagement in Winchester and we did not have breakfast - this being the other disappointment in that for the price we paid for the room one would have expected at least a continental breakfast to be included. A charge of £15-£20 for breakfast seemed a little steep. However taking into account the service, setting, ambience and added unexpected birds of prey displays plus the closeness to Winchester, it was overall one of the best overnight stays my husband and I have experienced and we would definitely return. A fantastic hotel, from the moment I drove up the 3/4 mile driveway and parked in the circular car park enclosing a small herb garden I was impressed! This hotel clearly takes quality seriously, with someone to greet us as soon as we walked through the door, smartly dressed staff taking bags to our room without pressing for a tip, interesting grounds […] to walk around and explore, and a large comfortable room. There are a number of small touches throughout that show this quality. We also ate in the 3 AA rosette Avenue restaurant...I was surprised at how small it was with only about 7 tables, and the atmosphere was somewhat stifled due to this. The food was superb quality and all locally sourced and painstakingly crafted on the plate. We had the 8 course tasting menu. Of course all of this comes at a price, and so my only complaint is that even after budgeting for the expensive room and very expensive meal, we had those incidentals that make the stay complete, like an afternoon drink in the garden, an after dinner drink in the bar, and breakfast the next morning, and boy do you pay for that! Very expensive prices all around so arrive prepared. But for a special occasion I really couldn't recommend it highly enough. Read more

from he moment we arrived we were treated like V.I.P.S.The reception staff kindly upgraded us to the dragonfly suite at no extra cost as it was our wedding anniversary.As we got to our room we were greeted with 2 lovely cup cakes.The room itself was massive being 197 sq feet with a very comfortable 4 poster bed and luxurious bathroom + walk in shower.We […] ate at the avenue restaurant and was very pleased with the quality of food and service and finished the night off with cocktails in the cedar bar overlooking the lovely tree lined avenue.Would highly recommend this hotel. Having left it very late to book for the Jubilee weekend, it was very much a case of this or nothing. Reassuringly expensive, you do get what you pay for to some extent; although note that breakfast is not included in the room cost. Meals are Michelin star prices but the one we had on our first night was somewhat better than a recent visit to a starred […] restaurant. We stayed in the Hydrangea room which is a large room up in the eves with exposed ancient timbers. Quirky but excellent with a huge bath and separate shower area with horizontal jets as well as the usual vertical ones. There are extensive grounds with a mile long lime tree avenue visible from our room. Ask for the guide and map at reception to find all the sights such as the ruined chapel and vegetable garden with birds of prey. An excellent choice for a special occasion. Read more

Staff were excellent, very professional and welcoming, hotel has kept many of it's orginal features whilst making a good effort to blend in the newer built parts. Rooms are spacious and well equipped, it seems to be a favourite wedding venue. Prices are what you would expect from a small luxury hotel. Good effort guys.

Pleasantly suprised by the massive room and the marvellous bathroom. Very friendly and helpful staff. Great Sunday lunch - we shall be coming back for more! The only fly in the ointment was the condition of the 2 tennis courts which have been seriously neglected - tip for hotel leave a hardbroom on the court so that it can be swept - this would be the […] equivalent of a good warm up before play! A very well run and luxurious country house hotel, we arrived just ahead of a wedding reception, which did not detract from the overall atmosphere. We were told, while being shown around the hotel, that the bar did great martinis, so I decidede to try one before going out for dinner. Indeed, it was excellent! Ice cold vodka (literally, kept at -18C) […] and served with great panache. If there was a gripe, it was the cost of the continental breakfast, which I felt was steep, even if many of the ingredients, including the honey, apparently, were home made. Read more

Went for a friend's wedding at the hotel. Lovely location and lots of activities to do in surrounding areas. Very friendly staff who were always available to help. The room was fantastic - traditional with rain bar showers and a jacuzzi. Overall great getaway hotel which I would definitely recommend.

Ett underbart hotell för en långhelg i en mycket fin parkmiljö strax utanför Winchester. Underbara rum och mycket fina uppehållsrum i gammal engelsk stil. Här blir man inte besviken.
