"Excellent hotel stay for the money"

Since the price was at the lower end of the scale, my wife and I were only expecting the comfort level of this hotel to be such that it would be a place to sleep at night and nothing more. We were pleasantly surprised to find that the hotel room was very clean, the staff was very attentive to our needs, other hotel guests were very nice, the hotel had a great location to access the area sites (it was very close to Deadwood and to Spearfish Canyon), and that our room had full cable tv and a couch. Our A/C had a digital thermostat. The shower was a bit loud and, as we were close to the pool area, the room had a light chlorine odor to it. But, these are minor complaints. Febreeze would take care of the odor. Definitely, we had a good stay and we would recommend it (and we are rather picky about where we stay, ie. Fairmont Princess, Phoenician, Hilton, etc.).

"Horrible night stay!"

Front desk was rude and they closed from 10pm to 7am. No coffee or breakfast until 7am, room was not clean, pool and spa were suppose to be heated they were both cold and no lights on. When we asked to have the lights on no one ever came. Kids were disappointed. I will never stay in HJ again. We stayed another night in Spearfish just at a different hotel.. Do not stay here...It was a terrible hotel for the price.

"Bugs in the bathroom"

Yuk, this place stinks. Literally. the entire place smells like the pool, because there is no door to close it off. The halls were HOT because of the pool and the dryer which seemed to vent into the hall. The room had stained floors, the A/C was either freezing, or we would sweat. do not stay here

we canceled our room, the pool and hot tub were out of order. The person checking in before us was told that the door wouldn't completely shut to his room - so I canceled.

We picked this hotel bc it was pet friendly. However, you have to tell them BEFORE YOU SHOW UP that you are bringing a pet or you will be charged. Hotels.com does not have a place for you to enter this information... you have to call the hotel directly. They did work with us and did not charge us...that was nice! You get what you pay for and this hotel met our expectations. The location was great! Lots of resturants and shopping centers around us and right off the highway.

Hotel advertises as 24 hour front desk. It's really 7am - 10pm. You have to ring a doorbell for the on-site manager to come down and open up if you are after hours. Otherwise our stay was uneventful and met our needs for the 1 night.

Both the TV and the phone did not work properly when we got into our room. Staff did fix problems after a longer than reasonable wait. Room had terrible odor from the pool as well as some other odor that I couldn't place. Bathroom was very clean though!

The hotel was clean, but the rooms were not that great for the price we paid. The beds were very uncomfortable and felt very old. Don't stay here unless you have to.

The free breakfast was disgusting and sparse. The front desk staff could care less wether you are there or not. The pillows are as flat as the floor. The bed is barely padded. Definitely not worth the money. Will not go back.

On our way to North Dakota from Colorado with a very late arrival. Chose the hotel because it featured 2 queen beds instead of 2 fulls you often see in budget hotels. To our surprise was one kind and one queen in the room that worked great for us. We all slept well. Did not get to use indoor pool. Breadfast was not available before 6:30 am so did not use free breakfast.

The beds in this hotel were the hardest I have ever slept on! If you sat at the edge of the bed, it would tip up! On both beds the sheets had noticeable stains! My family will never stay at a Howard Johnson's again!
