My parents and I had a great time at El Cid El Moro. The room was clean, spacious and quiet to the world around the hotel. We enjoyed the ocean view from the hotel. EL Moro staff was attentive and on top of taking care of our needs. I want to specially thank Luis Front Desk and Oliver Valet/Belly Boy or going the extra mile. I look forward to visiting Mazatlan and El Cid El Moro on my next vacation. Thank you

Stayed at this hotel for a week with a friend during Carnival. Hotel is nice and in a good location in the golden zone. We booked the all inclusive package. Food ranged from not good (pool bar) to very good (Italian restaurant and Roberto's Mexican Restaurant). The buffet was typical cafeteria food. The terrace restaurant also had menu food but we did not order off the menu during the stay. The all inclusive plan includes alcoholic beverages but not bottled beer. The only beer on tap is Modello light and dark. Service can be slow from the bar if the hotel is crowded. The beach is nice and there seemed to be plenty of chairs and palapas to accommodate guests. Vendors stroll the beach but are not much bother. There are restaurants and bars within easy walking distance to hotel. hotel is close to Malecon for a nice walk. The staff at the hotel is very friendly and accommodating. The main pool is in the center of the hotel and was a bit dirty during our visit. The rest of the hotel was clean and well kept. The hotel is older but has been updated. There is a nice sports bar on the second floor. The beach is kept very clean by the hotel. The hotel is right next door to Joe's Oyster Bar. Overall, I give this hotel a good rating. it is not 5 star but very authentic and comfortable for a stay in Mazatlan. I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Everything about this hotel is great. The only downside was the adjoining room had a smoker in it and the smoke seemed to seep into our room.

A short guide to Downtown Mazatlan

At the foot of the Sierra Madre Mountains, across from the southern tip of Baja California, Mazatlan is known as the “Pearl of the Pacific.” In the first years of the 21st century, Plaza Machado, Mazatlan’s historic and cultural center, has been restored to its 19th century glory. Ringed by open-air restaurants and cafes, the only through-street is closed to traffic Thursday-Saturday evenings.

The location and view was fine. The staff was friendly and nice but the room smells so much of old cigarette smoke, it really made us reluctant to return to the hotel after being outdoors. It is an old hotel and we probably should have chosen one with no smoking allowed. The beds were very hard also and one wonders when the blankets and bedspreads were […] last washed. But the maid did clean pretty well each day.The water from the shower smelled so bad that it became a joke - we felt cleaner before the shower than after. I really wouldn't recommend this hotel despite the nice people who run it. The restaurant was good and not too noisy. Read more

Great location near Old Town We liked the location of La Siesta. It was perfect for those more interested in Old Town--the catherdarl, square, market, etc. This is what Mazaltltan is really all about. Could walk anywhere in 10 minutes. We forfeited three days we paid for after the first night there and moved to another hotel in mazatlan's Golden Zone. This place was very old. It was across the street from the beach, but it was not accessible. The people were nice and it was in walking distance to Machado Plaza a nice nightspot, but we had a car and didn't need to walk. The Golden […] Zone had hotels right on the beach with their own pools, restaurants, outdoor eating/drinking, decks with lounge chairs etc. Also, there was better shopping there. Read more

This is an excellent hotel to stay at in Mazatlan if you want to be in the historic district! it is a Mexican hotel, but front desk staff speak English. It is clean, the rooms are nice and reasonably priced, there is a beautiful courtyard, and the waterfront view if you get a waterfront room (strongly recommended) is outstanding! There is AC if you […] need it, but mostly just letting the ocean breeze in is wonderful. The restaurant in the hotel is also good. Everyone is very friendly. Hotel is directly across the street from the Malecon, where there is a constant parade of many people walking, riding bikes, roller blading, etc. Also, a small beach. We felt very comfortable staying there and would absolutely do so again on a return trip. Read more

Hotel La Siesta is underoing an upgrade and is looking better every day. For a budget hotel, is offers a lot. The staff is very nice and go out of their way to make their guest's stay memorable. Their pool is very private and clean. Great proximity to the downtown district...home of the central markets, Catholic Church, museums, nightlife and a ton […] of great restaurants. Bus line right out front, with taxi service availble 24-7. They have a tour office located in their building...we went on two, and found them to be an awesome value. Few employees, in fact, fewer people in the community in general, speak English, than places like Cabo, Puerto Vallarta, but we found what we needed with a little work. But all in all, for the money...you cannot beat Hotel La Siesta. Read more

This place isn't fancy but you get the best view in town for a very good price. The staff are all wonderful and friendly. Hotel La Siesta gives you a taste of real Mexico. If you're a tourist it probably isn't for you but if you're a traveler who wants to immerse yourself in the local culture, dine on authentic local cuisine and meet the people who […] live in Mazatlan this is the perfect place to spend some time on your visit. The hotel courtyard is serene and peaceful but step outside and you're in the middle of all the action and can walk or take a short bus or taxi ride to experience all Mazatlan has to offer. Read more

We enjoyed our stay at LaSiesta. The staff is very helpful and friendly, remembering us from year to year. The rooms are tidy and offer everything we need for comfort. Our favorite thing about LaSiesta Hotel is the balcony overlooking the malacon, ocean, and beach at Olas Altos. We sit for hours watching the people come and go, the surfers trying to […] catch a wave, and the many bikers, walkers, runners, skate boarders, and lovers who use the malacon and beach area. We highly recommend LaSiesta if you are looking for a wonderful small, older hotel. Read more

I loved the area of Old Mazatlan and the beach right across the street, but the beds were hard, you had no ice at all, no elevator, ( we carried luggage up 3 flights) and the pool was so small, we never used it , because of all the people in it. Not enough lounge chairs too. It was dark and dingy, because the bulbs weren't bright enough. We saw a sign […] on the office door that said best rating for 2012 from Trip Adviser. We laughed, because we had no clue how in the world and from who they got that from. There has got to be a better hotel in that beautiful part of Matzatlan! Sorry La Siesta, gotta do better!! I've stayed at La Siesta many times over the past few years. I really like the location of this hotel. The rooms are clean, customer service is always great. There is a restaurant downstairs that's open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There are plenty of restaurants in the area. The beach is across the street. The police station is next door, so you're […] safe. The hotel is located close to Plazuela Machado and downtown. You can actually walk to both locations. I have always had a great experience at La Siesta and recommend it to anyone who would like to stay in Old Mazatlan. Read more

This hotel is about location, location, location! The room was very clean and bright. The stairways and hallways are funky. and dark. The pool was clean but cold. We booked 6 nights at La Siesta. We dumped it after 3 nights and moved to the all inclusive Hotel Riu. The beaches and pools at the Riu were great. We enjoyed dining in community around La Siesta better than the bountiful buffets at the Riu. The room at La Siesta was pretty dumpy compared to the Riu. In the end, we enjoyed each half of our vacation […] about the same, but for different reasons. If I return to Mazatlan I would probably book El Cid Castillo or one of the resorts near it. These resorts have good beaches and pool complexes but have the city of Mazatlan just outside. Read more

From the street where we were dropped off, the Hotel Siesta looks like a dump. Once we got past the sidewalk, the courtyard opened up to a very unique old Mexico feeling hotel. They are currently (Sept. 2010) doing some renovationson the outside of the building. This should REALLY help. The staff was really friendly at the front desk. He gave suggestions […] on what we could do and where we could go. The room was very clean. It had 2 double beds and a small balcony. We spent the extra few dollars to get the ocean view and it was really worth it. This hotel is directly across the street from the beach. The air conditioner worked amazingly! It was much needed too. This is a budget hotel. Look at the rates. You are not staying at a five star resort, but it works. The bathroom was clean. There were only 2 towels provided (there were 3 of us) but they were generous when we asked for more. The beds were comfy and the sheets were crisp and clean. The Hotel Siesta is in a great location. We walked up and down the beach and throughout the town. This part of Mazatlan is like the Historic area. . You can people watch from the small balcony...but it's hot out there. We even saw a sea turtle come up on the beach outside our balcony and lay eggs! It was cool. Read more

Definately get a ocean view room... huge window with a balcony to sit on .. very nice. Fun to watch the people walking by on the malecon at night. We really enjoyed staying in 'old Mazatlan' the hotel is close to the plaza, mercado lots of activities. The airconditioning was loud but cold so we didn't mind too much. the Shrimp Bucket was a great restaruant […] and we ate there quite a bit... The only thing we REALLY didn't like was the very pushy tour sales lady " Blanca" The hotel allows her to stay there and try to get a sale.... she called us on our first morning there... she called our room on the morning of our first day to sleep in and rest from work.... to sell us something... i was quite annoyed really. She also waited for me in the lobby when I was using the computer so she could sell me something the minute I was done. we actually almost switched hotels mid week because of her horrible way of being pushy and stalking us........ so okay hotel... beware the Blanca Read more

La Siesta was clean and comfortable. The ocean-view rooms with balcony provide a magnificent view, especially in the morning. I did yoga out there ever morning and it was amazing. The bilingual staff is very helpful and friendly. They gave us lots of recommendations. The wireless connection was good. Right now they are doing renovations, but it wasn't […] an inconvenience at all. The difference between Old Mazatlan and Zona Dorado is HUGE. I'm so glad I stayed in Old Mazatlan, which provided an authentic Mexican experience along with beautiful beaches. The restaurant within La Siesta (call The Shrimp Bucket) was good...and they really do have shrimp buckets! Overall, I would definitely stay at La Siesta again. The price was very reasonable and it suited my needs nicely. Read more

Rooms were clean, bed was okay. Bathroom very old, but good shower. Short walk to historical centre and many restaurants nearby.

First visit to Mazatlan. The hotel was exactly as advertised. It is an older hotel along the waterfront in the historic area. We had an ocean view room with a spectacular view, especially the sunsets. Staff are very friendly. Walking distance to lots of restaurants along the Malecon. Bus service out front as well as taxis and the famous Pullmonias.
