Our room was down several levels with a total of 47 stairs then three stairs within the room. No elevator. The assistance offered was the cleaning staff (female). We are seniors and everyday was a chore to get from the room and return in the eve. Duvet was very narrow for the bed making sleep uncomfortable.

Just what the title says! Big rooms, king bed, EXCELLENT breakfast, perfect country location. All it needs is a little tlc like new windows and lighting. Put some cash into it and this beautiful building quickly becomes a five star property!

Stayed for 3 nights at this hotel. Location was lovely - peaceful village with lots of places to eat, and only a 25 minute drive to Loch Lomond's southern shore. Rooms were slightly on the small side, but clean and comfortable. On two of the nights, there were wedding functions and as we were on the ground floor, a stones throw away from the function […] room, we were disturbed up until around 1230am, which was slightly annoying, as the wedding party did seem to have preference over the tables and chairs in the lounge, leaving little space for the paying guests. The breakfast was good - buffet style full english and a choice of cereals/ yoghurts / fruit, etc. The leisure facilities include a swimming pool and was perfectly adequate, particularly for the kids. Needs some reinvestment Fire alarm went off in the middle of the night, faulty. But kept outside with all the guests. Staff were panicking and apart from an apology letter under the door, no offer of compensation despite losing most of the night. This is a nice old Hotel with plenty of character and is spotlessly clean with lovely big comfortable beds and a nice swimming pool sauna and gym ( changing rooms a bit dirty though!) I was disappointed with the room allocated as it appeared to be in the basement and was dark and gloomy in dark green colours with a bathroom door which would'nt close […] properly. Initially warm it became a melting sauna overnight when we could'nt turn the radiator down. Thankfully the helpful receptionist transferred us to another room for our second night, this was much brighter and cooler!! Breakfast was nice on the first morning and there was plenty of food and the helpful young waiter ensured we had drinks a plenty. He must have been off shift the next day as waiting staff were totally disorganised and the food uncooked and inedible( bacon swimming in grease) Restaurant food is overpriced and my partner was disgusted with portion size- Go down to the local pub for a good meal with better service! Stayed at hotel for 2 nights as I had wanted peace to complete a writing project. It said free wifi throughout the hotel which was what I needed to reference items as I went. I also called to make sure it was available in the rooms as I didn't want to be sitting in the public areas. They assured me it was.Check in lady was straight to the point with […] all the facts I needed but not particularly warm.This was not the case with all other staff who I found genuinely friendly, helpful and professional. I again checked it worked in this room and she said it did. The place is a bit of a maze but my room was not far. The decor was as I expected from other reports, a bit dated but bright and clean with the exception of all the lamp bases and under/behind the radiator. The bathroom looked recently painted. The room was larger than I expected with a 2 seat couch,seperate table,a dressing tablewhich had a mirror off centre to the left and to the right but when you sat straight on at the desk to do your hair there was no mirror? So you had to stand as the couch made it difficult to do anything else, The TV wasattached to a swinging wall bracket.The bracket was squint so the tv swung out at a bit of an angle. The wifi didn't work. I went and asked at reception after initailly saying all was ok she then said they hadprobs that day with email and she would report it. It never worked throughout my stay so wasted my time. The PAT testing on all electrics was years out of date. Food overpriced. Read more

Stayed for two nights dinner bed and breakfast. We found the welcome warm, the food excellent and the surroundings lovely. There are other places for eating out in the village, but highly recommend eating in the hotel. Very efficient & friendly staff. Probably one of the best hotel breakfasts I have had in a long time. (Freshly prepared local smoked haddock and prefect poached eggs). Buffet selection looked good too (didn't have it as i ordered the above) Rooms a bit 'tired' and corridor carpets/decor in need of updating. We had a 4 poster bed which was a nice gesture, […] however, on the way to the room, the corridor was so worn and we had to go to the basement, it was a pleasant surprise when we opened the room door. The room was very small as the bed took up all the space, however, the bathroom had been refurbished recently (although the hot water was a 'hit or miss'). For locality/value for money & excellent service, this hotel is well worth a stay. The spa facilities were excellent, clean & warm changing areas, towels supplied and nice pool/sauna/steam room. The service was excellent, there was an issue with a couple of families with babies/very young children in the dining room staff were more than obliging & discreet when many diners moved through to the conservatory to dine in peace and quiet. it was upsetting to see these families allowing their children to scream/jump from the chairs/ throw food about and run around the restaurant un supervised. great hotel! I’m very fussy and everything was perfect! booking up again for Oct 2011. there was a fire alarm at midnight due to some idiot smoking in their room and being 7 months pregnant was not best chuffed being woken up, but apart from that, it was great. staff great, facilities and restaurant fantastic!
