Overall the hotel was average. Not great, not horrible. The staff however, was friendly all around. Very nice front of house experienceGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Grand Plaza Hotel review"
The Grand Plaza hotel was a sad dissapointment. Parking is $16 per night for valet, with the only free option being a HIKE to another garage. There was no ice machine on the floor, there was one elevator not working, and the toilet didn't flush. The lounge had overpriced drinks and the ABSOLUTE WORST pizza I have ever eaten.Genuine Expedia guest review
it's ok. it get's the job done. except when there's no heat or hot water and it's -13 degrees. ok, pipes burst, i get it. major snow and polar vortex, i get it. but when you have 40 guests and the rooms don't have heat, perhaps the offer of a relocation or the offer of a comp would have gone a long way. Nothing? A free night on your next visit? Nothing? […] Wow. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A bargain at Expedia price."
I was at the Grand Plaza when the cold wave hit the Midwest. Toledo imposed a Level 3 for traffic which meant that only emergency vehicles were allowed on the streets. Water pipes cracked in the hotel because of the cold so I had no heat or hot water for 2 days. After a day the hotel gave me a portable heater which helped a lot. It was impossible to […] buy food because all of the restaurants and supermarkets were closed. The hotels restaurant was also closed. I had brought some food with me so I was okay. Also, the hotel had a free complimentary breakfast in the morning which helped a lot. That was the bad part. The good part was that the Grand Plaza did not charge any of its guests for the 2 days that the hotel was without heat or hot water, so I do not have any complaints. . "problems with heat and hot water"
Checked in early Friday night and was in the room very quickly. The room was 90 degrees and only got hotter as I tried to adjust the temp. The hotel sent the Maint man up and he called the front desk and got us another room. Not a great way to start the trip but things happen. The next morning the whole hotel had no heat and no hot water. Each call […] said that it would be working soon but it never got fixed before we had to leave the hotel without a shower. Also, the hotel has 3 elevators for a reason but only one was working for all 3 days. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
The hot water tank broke so we were unable to shower, the heat went out, a tv didn't work in one of the rooms, the shuttle service was MIA and then staff attempted to compensate us by giving us free drinks in the hotel bar, the beer was flat and awful, we didn't even drink it. I understand things happen, however the whole experience was awful. We were […] told all day long by staff the hot water tank would be up and running "soon", however it was out for the entire day and we were able to take showers before heading to a wedding. I would never stay here again. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"good but with nickle and diming"
the hotel, room, location, were all lovely and especially nice if there is a conference or concert downtown. However, the breakfast was expensive with very little to offer and there is nowhere to park nearby unless you utilize the valet.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
No shuttle service as stated. Had to ask for extra towels. Had difficulty with the TV. Reading light above the bed didn't work. Leaky ceiling near the restaurant. Free parking in lot across the street is inconvient.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Their restaurant is horrible. DON'T eat there!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Would recommend this hotel BUT would also make them aware of the following: No one available in bar No dinning available unless you were shuttled. No vending machines available-only a limited choice in a small room in the lobby.Genuine Expedia guest review
"My stay experience"
37" TV in a room with 2 beds seem unfitting. No fridge in the room so I could not store essentials for my kids. From 11th floor, I went through each floor down to the 3rd floor before I could find a working ice machine. I observed stains on back support pillows. However, I received quite promptly a request for toothpaste. Despite this I like the hotel […] and would stay again. But this time lower my expectation. I am however satisfied with Hotels.com prompt handling of my complaints. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Nice hotel food service needs improvement."
Hotel was nice. Food service not so good. They only meal we had in the hotel was breakfast (served between 6:30 - 10:30). We were the only people at the hotel restaurant at 8:15 AM. We ordered the breakfast special, pancakes. Pancakes were cold. A replacement plate of pancakes were brought to the table and they were also cold. Waitress just shrugged […] her shoulders and said she would not charge us for breakfast. Pancakes looked like they were made in advance and not to order. We also checked out the breakfast buffet @$10.99/person, only items out were oatmeal, cereal, fruit & muffins. It wasn't until more people came in around 9:00 AM that they decided to fill the warming trays with meat and potatoes. Eggs were made to order. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review

"Not so nice"
Our room smelled like cat urine, there was no hot water in the shower, and the room temperature stayed at a chilly 66°. The Aqua Lounge was horrible. It looks very "cafeteria-like", the food was inedible, and the martinis were served warm.Genuine Expedia guest review

"In town for a concert"
We liked the close proximity for walking to Frankie's Inner City. Hotel was exactly what we needed for an overnight stay. Very clean, staff where friendly as where the valet staff. More knowledge of surrounding area by staff would be appreciated. Would definitely stay again for possibly a ball game next time.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great price for great location"
Only complaint was the valet...the poor kids had to run two blocks to the parking garage causing unreasonable delays.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Close to the Seagate Center"
Comfortable modern hotel in good condition. Very helpful staff. Our room was missing all the towels and face cloths (??!!) and required 2 calls to get sent up. Just one call to replace a non-functioning TV remote. Minor stuff in an otherwise good stay. Valet parking @$16/night was pricey, (they never had to move our car all weekend) but we were only […] charged 1 night so I guess I'd consider it as a reasonable "parking charge". I was very disappointed by my stay at the a Grand Plaza. The first room I was checked into was not cleaned yet from the previous guest. The second room the towels provided had stains on them and there was mildew in the bathtub. The bathroom was extremely small for a high class hotel. The parking for the guests was either valet or in a random parking garage across the street, which staying on a Sunday night was abandoned and I was unsure how safe it was to leave my car there.
"Cheap Hotel in Need of a Makeover or a Good Cleaning"

Friendly staff here and a comfy bed. On the down side, our room was a kind of dingy, smelled of stale cigarettes and didn't feel all that clean. Water stains and crumbling a ceiling in the bath room & well worn furniture and carpet in the room just made the place feel old. To add to the ambiance, some mice had left a few presents on the window sill. We will look elsewhere next time.

1st we have been going there for 14 years to the Weak Signals event at convention center. This was the best location,Now we get there and they cant find our reservations ?we get in our (wet) rooms after fighting the terrible valet system. Now we all (6) have to move to different rooms. We leave to go to eat & there is a 45 min traffic jam in there parking lot to get our cars. The next day they call us and say they cant find our reservations yet!!,we walk to convention center because no one knows how long it will take to get our cars again. You guessed it we leave that night for dinner and we have to wait another hour for the cars. but this time we parked our cars our self for the next day (smart). The breakfast the next morning down stairs was not editable. After all this 3 months later some one there over billed my credit card this week July 8th 2014 for $417.96,i still haven't revived my refund today because the person who worked! there is gone.i called to find out where my money is??they said we will reissue my refund!!.My last time there and all my American Modeler Association friends, all will be notified. lets see how long it takes/ Dave M.

We had a very nice stay here. The rooms were clean and the service was fantastic. They did everything possible to create a pleasant time for us.The free shuttle service to the casino was certainly a plus.We were able to view the river from our room and in the morning sat by the river. The Mudhens were playing the first day we arrived and the stadium was within walking distance. The pool area was nice and also the work out facility.

My wife and I reserved a specific room to watch the fireworks on the Fourth of July (the same room we had the year before, with the reservation made in exactly the same manner). We made our reservation two months in advance, and were assured on the phone that the room was "reserved" for us (along with a confirmation number). When we arrived, the room was given to someone else, and the manager told us that it was against policy to reserve specific rooms; we were given a room on the side of the hotel where we couldn't see the fireworks but, after some complaining, were able to switch to a better room. It turned out OK in the end, but I don't know why they assured us over the phone that we could reserve a specific room, and then were told when we arrived that it was "against policy" to reserve specific rooms. That same date, I talked to several other guests at the hotel, who told us that they were allowed to reserve a specific room at the hotel, and then were given that same room when they arrived. What gives? I am reluctant to return next year, since I'm afraid that the same situation will repeat, and we will end up in a room unsuited for our purposes. Imagine promising friends and small kids that they will be able to watch the fireworks from the room, only to discover you've been given a room that only has a view of downtown Toledo? Yikes. Despite several inquiries, I never got a satisfactory explanation from the manager or staff, who seemed irritated more than helpful with my complaint. .

We stayed for 2 ngts, July 4th & 5th, to watch fireworks & relax. There was no vent in bathroom, the AC could not be adjusted (full blast all the time). We were promised a microwave and frig, but could not get a microwave. The restaurant was closed & only 2 people working in the bar. Waited 30 min for a beer and almost an hr for dinner. Paid $189/ngt for corner view room. The pool didn't have towels on the 5th and no one had cleaned the area all day. WAY understaffed, but the staff that was there did the best they could. Didn't inquire about the spa, but there was not info about it either; doubt if there is one. Not worth the money. We have stayed downtown Chicago & Portland for less money and better value.
"Not a great experience"
07/01/14 Joe G London, Canada
Stayed at this hotel recently with my 2 daughters. Hotel was understaffed and the staff that existed were undertrained and indifferent. Many times there was no one at the front desk at all. If you got lucky (and someone was at the front desk) you'd have to wait 10 minutes to ask a simple question. The bedroom nightlight didn't work and the toilet and shower (which had minimal water pressure) couldn't operate at the same time. No onsite self-parking. Worn and faded carpet. Priceline has this rated as a 3 1/2 star but at best it would be a 2 1/2 to 3 star. Very disappointing experience.
"Worst Customer Service Ever!"

I am a current guest of the Grand Plaza hotel in Toledo. I'm currently staying the nights of 6/29/2014-7/5/2014. Today on Monday June 30th at 7pm I visited the pool area where I was harassed multiple times by your bartender and other hotel employees. After confirming once that I was a guest they continued to return, in an attempt to kick me and other hotel guest out of that area. After coming and attempting to file a complaint with the manager in charge at the time I was left very unhappy with the young woman's attitude. I spend good money to sleep comfortably wherever I travel and expect nothing less from this trip. During this experience I could see why the hotel itself was such a ghost town. The only valuable part about the hotel was the valet. I wouldn't recommend the hotel to anyone. The Guest House in Perrysburg which is a bed and breakfast would be a much better experience they offer much more in a better location for half the price!
"Pretty terrible experience."
06/30/14 katpilch Toledo, Ohio
Stayed at the hotel for a night out in Toledo. I will provide a short list of the problems I encountered. One, the valet parking is $16! That is way too much for the City of Toledo. They offered that I park in a nearby parking garage, which would be $8 for the night. So, I opted for the parking garage. Thankfully, I was able to park my car temporarily outside the hotel so I could take my things to my room before permanently parking my car. Two, the room had NO air conditioning. We tried to turn the temperature down, but it would not work. It was more humid in our room than it was outside. We alerted the front desk of this issue, but they did nothing to fix it. Three, the shower curtain was moldy (black mold near the bottom). Four, the alarm clock in the room went off twice in the middle of the night (we never set the alarm). Five, the fire alarm went off at 6:45am. When we finally go on shoes and left the room, it stopped going off. Tried to get back in the room, but the key no longer worked. When we went down to the front desk to ask why the fire alarm went off (and to get our key re-activated), they simply laughed that it went off and said it didn't go off on any other floors. Apparently, there was no concern or urgency for their guests' safety. Sixth, when we were checking out, the guest behind us in line mentioned that she had taken a cold shower because she had no hot water. We did not have that problem, but I thought I should share. After sharing all of these concerns with the staff, we did get the room comped. The cost of a room (and parking) is way too steep for this type of experience. The only good thing about this hotel is the shuttle service. It will take you anywhere in the Toledo area for free, which was extremely helpful! However, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

I stay in hotels for a living, and am only now getting involved on Trip Advisor (after using it as a reference for years). This hotel is so bad, it made me write my first review.... First of all, the phones in the rooms have white out over the "Crowne" from where this use to be a Crowne Plaza. They obviously kept the name plaza to keep the transition simple. I'm not sure who owns this hotel, but they are terrible and should get out of the business. Our group didn't arrive until 2am or so. We had some large pieces from work to bring in - guess what? They don't have bell carts. Perfect. Off to a great start. After lugging our large pieces up to our rooms we were all greeted to air handling systems that didn't properly work. As previous reviewers stated, there must be a central control for the system as the panel on the room does nothing. We had them set to 60, and I would say it was mid to high 70s in my room. Nothing like that when it's 90 degrees out. Where to go next... The bathroom? Sure, why not... Mold, wallpaper falling down, terrible lighting, paint peeling from vents over your head in the shower. If you're into these kinds of things, this is the hotel for you. But wait, there's more... They obviously reuse the shampoo bottles etc in the bath - how gross is this? See attached photos. Runny old shampoo all over the bottle from where they've refilled it or dumped other bottles into another one to refill. Awesome. Stepping into the rest of the space, you'll enjoy a nice sticky carpet floor that's probably never been steamed cleaned. The bed was antiquated but acceptable and amazingly they had outlets next to one side of the bed. The alarm clocks are so bright at night you won't need turn on a light - be sure to unplug that or turn it on it's face so you can sleep. Lastly, gotta love that horrible in room coffee. I just can't get enough of that stuff. But I digress.
