"very old, but still good"
I like how it's close to the beach so I can walk there whenever I want, the people are very nice, and the facilities are very clean, I liked the large pool. The room is okay but it is pretty old.Genuine Expedia guest review
"God, I love this place!"
The Galvez Hotel was wonderful. It made our Thanksgiving a beautiful memory. The Thanksgiving buffet was superb and our waiter went out of his way to make sure we were treated like royalty. The service was always above and beyond expectations. We loved the well maintained grounds and hotel structure. The ocean view rooms were comfortable. The history […] behind the Galvez was interesting to learn. Thank you, Galvez. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"VERY SMALL ROOMS"
The room was quite a bit smaller than I had expected. Seriously, very small! Also, the business center does not have a scanner. They said they could scan my documents and email them but the documents I needed to scan were for work and I didn't want them to be able to be viewed by others. A scanner with capability to scan to USB is ideal. The beds were […] comfortable. Oh, and I did not like that you have to cross the street to self park if you come in after the valet closes. It was an okay experience, but not what I had hoped for, especially considering the cost. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great location and amenities!"
The location of the hotel was excellent-across from the beach, and within walking distance to shops and restaurants. The hotel itself had charm and character. It was well staffed, clean, and relaxing, with many amenities including a restaurant, lounge, pool and spa. I would stay in this hotel again, without a doubt!!!!Genuine Expedia guest review
It was a wonderful hotel to say at. Very beautiful. Favorite part was the rain shower. It was nice. Location was right on the Sea Wall. The neigoboor hood was ok behind the hotel but it is Galveston after all so there is one block that's nice next to a not so nice.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"An historic must stay"
One of the few opportunities to to stay in a landmark place and true treasure. Food and service are all excellent. Hard to fault the staff or facilities anywhere.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Allie's Wedding weekend"
Every part of our stay was excellent. The wedding was beautiful. The entire place is as well and the food scrumptious. Have stayed here many times with years between and it never disappoints.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Hotel with a great deal of character"
We had our dog with us so were not able to take advantage of the amenities - which was a pity as there was a beautiful pool area and all the common areas were very attractive - our bad! One drawback was that the room, although clean and attractively furnished, was a bit cramped and overlooked the roof area which had the air conditioning unites - no […] isy! "Booked on the "haunted hallway""
They put us in room 507. I wished they would have told us that this hallway was the most haunted in the hotel. Once we discovered that, we were very uneasy and did not sleep well. Would have liked the hotel to fully disclose prior to giving us that room. We had two unusual incidents occur as we discussed whether the ghost of Audra - on of the hotel's […] legendary ghosts was real. As soon as my friend dismissed it, her cell phone started playing Nora Jones' "Come Away with Me" for about 10 seconds and then it went off. It did the same thing - same song - when we approached our room. Her phone had never done this before. We would have had a more restful stay on another floor, I believe. "I recommend this hotel"
I loved this hotel. It had an old time elegance reminded me of the titanic (before the sinking). My husband and I went for our anniversary and it was special. I loved Paulina at the spa. There relaxation room was very nice. Nice staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Be prepared to do it yourself"
we arrived after a 5 hour drive. The valet/bellman help my daughter unload the car (lots of stuff for 4 people). We went up to the room and after about 15 minutes, my daughter asked how long does it take for them to bring our stuff up? She went down stairs to find the valet/bellman chatting away with the desk clerk. She asked where our bags were and […] he pointed outside. The cart with my laptop, 35mm SLR Cannon camera, medication, etc. was sitting outside, unattended. When my daughter asked about it, he said he'd get fired if he left his station! It was 9:30 or 10PM. She ended up bring the whole thing up herself while they watched on. It did get better. Excellent service at breakfast, room service. The beds were comfy. Lovely hotel. Be sure to visit the basement if you're into history. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Nice hotel, close to the beach, nice pool/hot tub. Awesome Sunday brunch. I would have given the hotel a 5, but dinner at the hotel was not that great. For 2 adults, we spent $90 and the food was at best average, very salty and not what you expect for $90. Eat the brunch and go somewhere else for dinner.Genuine Expedia guest review
I took my Son for the day and it was awesome to finally stay there, I have worked on the Hotel in 1983 and have been there multiple times for various other things, but never stayed there. I am glad we did and it was well worth what we paid.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Beautiful historic, across from the gulf"

"Nice Hotel across from the beach"
A nice place to stay during the Lone Star Rally. It was close to the seawall action and lots of motorcycles to see. Motorcycles could be parked in the front for a cost. Nice view!Genuine Expedia guest review
"Staff needs better management."
Upon arrival at the hotel the parking staff aggressively asked for direct cash payment for parking in front of the hotel, before we could even check in. When asked to please wait until we completed parking and unloading, they continued to aggressively ask for payment, to the point of being a safety hazard. We were on a motorcycle and were trying to […] roll it backward into a parking spot as they were standing beside us demanding payment. We paid the $10 for the parking sticker, tipped the attendant, and reported the incident to the front desk since we were not sure if cash payment was the policy if we hotel guests. We didn't want to be charged twice. When we came back to our room at 1:30 a.m. our key did not work. When we went to the front desk and they said our key had been suspended for non-payment of parking fees. We showed them the sticker and they agreed to reset the key. As this was happening, some of the parking attendants and staff were laughing at the situation. It became clear this was a vindictive act by the parking attendant and staff for reporting their aggressive behavior earlier in the evening. We wonder how a hotel of this quality can allow their staff to lock a paying guest from their room for non-payment of any service, especially since the room was paid on a credit card. Wouldn't the fee in question just be added to the account? We reported the situation to the manager the next morning. I'm not sure if we were taken seriously. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"lovely hotel, needs to be cared for better"
We loved this grand old lady of a hotel. We go it upgraded to a sea view room and cherished the views from both windows. On the down side, the room wasn't clean and the room service breakfast was dreadful. Such a shame this beautiful place is not cared for as she should be.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Loved our first stay at the Hotel Galvez."
We enjoyed everything. We arrived early for the Sunday Brunch. It was great, the best I have had in decades. I sat in the lobby Sunday afternoon and listened to Joyce play the piano so well. She played my request for Claire de Lune. I enjoyed a tour of their museum by the 76-year-old doorman, who has worked here for most of his life. Monday, we left […] our car parked and the hotel van took us to the pier to board our cruise ship - only required a one-night valet fee of $18. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Perfect Hotel for Couples"
Only here for one night but we will definitely be back! Wyndam Hotel so of course it is beautiful! We didn't check out the pool or other amenities as we were excited to get out and about. Directly across the street from the beach, and just a short walk to the Pleasure Pier, which looks fun (if we had kids or rode rides). The hotel offers bikes if you […] would like to bike the seawall. Sunday brunch looked like a feast fit for a king! Packed with people who come here just for the food! Everything you could possibly want was on the table!! Lisa the bartender at night was such a personable person. She has a great smile and a friendly attitude. "Right by the Beach plus a Great Saltwater Pool"
Hotel Galvez is a wonderful place for a romantic weekend getaway or for whenever you want to treat yourself to a beach vacation. While Galveston's beach itself may not be the most appealing at times -- it can be daunting to some who are accustomed to white sand beaches with clear blue water -- the Hotel Galvez has good views of both sunrise and sunset, […] and the saltwater pool feels SO much better on your skin than any chlorinated pool. The hotel also provides bikes if you'd like to cruise the beach or neighborhood, and has a small lawn out front for a nice picnic. The guest service is good, although the restaurant service was terrible. (It may have been just our waiter, but it took a full 45 minutes before she took our order and another full hour before we actually received our food...and we were one of just 8 tables occupied in the entire restaurant, with at least 6 people on staff walking around.) "where to stay the night before you go on a cruise"
Hotel Galvez is the perfect place to stay for a night before you go on a cruise! The room we had was small but for one night was just fine for the 4 of us and the bathroom was beautiful. The Hotel offers complimentary bicycles and we explored the island on them, rode along the ocean, across the island to The Strand and even to dinner at Nick's and back. […] Fun, healthy, convenient, and even for people who are not athletes. The people at the hotel are all very friendly and helpful. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
We enjoyed our stay. We were there celebrating my daughter's birthday. The desk staff were fantastic with putting us on the floor we requested. They were great answering questions for my daughter. "Nice, quick visit to the historic Hotel Galvez"
I stayed at this property because I was coming from out of town for a wedding. The wedding was held at the hotel, so I just thought it would be convenient. It's about a 20 minute walk to the beautiful Strand Historic District, and the Pleasure Pier is across the street, but other than that, it's pretty remote. Check-in, and for that matter, all my […] dealings with the staff, were very pleasant. The room was smaller than the hotel rooms I'm used to, but that's pretty par for the course on "historic" hotels. The room size wasn't so much challenging, though as the bathroom size was. This was definitely a one person bathroom. It was small enough to make it a challenge to change clothes. I will also note that despite the fairly "modern" remodel of the room (tv, phone and decor), the bathroom looked like it hadn't been updated since the 90's with very plain fixtures. While nothing can really be done about the size of the bathroom, I hope their next renovation includes a remodel of the bathroom. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Great Hotel for Weekend Getaway"
Overall it was a really great trip and hotel. Friendly and helpful staff, beautiful rooms and grounds. Also, the shuttle to and from the Strand was a nice/helpful benefit.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Hard to tell this hotel is over 100 years old. Absolutely beautiful, rooms were very clean, service was excellent. If you want rooms with an ocean-side view but the partial view is what's available, skip it and go with the city view. Partial view really leaves a lot to be desired... Didn't see any ghosts.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great weekend get-away for Wedding Anniversary!"
This was the first time at any hotel in Galveston. We chose it due to the reviews and reputation for customer service. It is directly across from the beach! We had a Full Gulf view so that was nice! The staff was very courteous and professional. If you can stay on the weekdays the rates are cheaper. WiFi worked great! We walked to the Pleasure Pier […] which is past Murdoch's gift shops. We did not eat or swim there as we were only staying one night. We plan on coming back with our kids soon! The room temp was perfect. we enjoyed the history of this hotel including the Ghost stories. Had a wonderful time. Room comfort would of been improved but the room was damp and musty when we moved in. Maybe they had shampooed carpet? Lighting could of been brighter.
