The hotel common areas were nice and well maintained. The rooms were quite small and also we'll maintained and comfortable for their size. The barrooms, however, we're not what I expected. The tub/shower combo was very old with a shower head attached at about 6' and the spray coming out at around 5'9"... Not what you expect or want when you're 6'3". Stayed for two nights. The hotel had bicycles we used every morning to ride the seawall. They were in great shape and we had a great time. Only needed a drivers license to rent. The staff was very accommodating. Beautiful pool area with sun and shade. Hotel is old, but well maintained. The parking garage was fenced, but the walk-thru gate remained open […] our entire stay. My husband and I were very excited about staying at the Hotel Galvez because it was our honeymoon. I tried calling two times prior to our visit to find out if there was anything special that we could do in regards to this and got no response. Upon check in we were given a room that the A/C did not work. When we asked to move, we were told that a engineer […] would be sent to our room for research the problem. My husband and I proceeded to the pool for about 4 hours. When we returned to our room the A/C still did not work. We called the front desk again and they told us the same thing. They would get an engineer to our room. At this point our room temp was 85 degrees. We proceeded to get ready for our dinner reservations and a night out. However when we returned at about 1am the issue still had not been resolved. THIS time we were offered another room. So we had to gather all our belongings and move at 1am! This could have all been avoided had we been offered another room earlier that day. After moving to another room and showering, it was apparent that the drain in the bathtub was clogged. Once again I called the front desk and was informed that "an engineer" would be called to look at the problem. Needless to say I had to call two more time and this issue was not resolved until late Saturday night and we checked out on Sunday. Don't let your waiters hang out chatting while restaurant customers are waiting for seating, and *definitely* don't let your manager walk by, look at the customers, and keep going (we did not see him talk to . Instruct your waiters on the need to bring a wine list to the table. Don't let the waiter bring out cold food. Instruct your maids not to have lengthy, loud phone calls outside your rooms. Instruct your maids not to leave the pillows and bedding on the floor when they tidy up, or to leave the lamp leaning up against the wall. And when you ask a departing guest how their stay was, and they say "tolerable," the correct response is NOT "okay, bye." That was your last chance to fix things, and you blew it. This is basic stuff that Holiday Inn and La Quinta consistently get right, and if the rooms were $50-100/night we'd suck it up. It's completely unacceptable in a "luxury" hotel however. "I've stayed at 3 star hotels that were better."
The 2 rooms we got had dirty carpet. I'm not talking about vacuumed... I'm talking about leaving your feet black. It was soiled dirty. We had to was our feet before we went to bed. We opted to pay $219 for ocean view, and we got rooms with foggy windows (they were double pane, with moisture in between, and could not be cleaned or washed clear). We asked […] to be moved, but there were no rooms available. They did give us 2 $80 vouchers for breakfast to compensate. This hotel could be so much nicer. The woman at the front desk, said they were "checking into it". I stopped by later and asked if I would be offered any compensation.
