"Great hotel in a great location, but pricey"
I have stayed here multiple times. I love the hotel and the rooms, but while the rooms are often on sale, this is made up for by nickel and diming you elsewhere. Parking is $48 per night for guests (including tax which they are not upfront about). And wireless internet also costs a significant amount. The lounge is great, but again very expensive. When […] asked about the costs, the staff shrug and blame it on the "district of columbia." I will definitely stay here again, but only when the room prices are discounted enough to make up for the extra costs. These days it is very rare to stay in a hotel that does not offer its guests complimentary wireless internet and $50/night for parking is just absurd, even in DC. Response by The Fairfax at Embassy Row, Starwood Luxury Collection We certainly can understand your concern when it comes to additional fees applied to the cost of your stay. Considering the convenient location of The Fairfax at Embassy Row to the Dupont Circle Metro, many of our guests do not require a car. Those services such as parking and internet access are provided for a fee only to those guests that need them, thus decreasing any unnecessary charges across the board to all of our guests. We’re thrilled that the attention you received from our Housekeeping staff made your stay more comfortable and hope that we can continue to welcome you back to our hotel again and again. Thank you for your review.

"close to Metro and good resaurants"
This was our 2nd stay at this lovely hotel built in 1922. Rooms are a comfortable size, and more reminiscent of a B & B than a standard hotel room. Hotel's restaurant serves mediocre food, but there are many great restaurants within easy walking distance. My only complaint is they charge for wi-fi service.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Wonderful. Front desk and all we were in contact with were very helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pleasant older hotel, excellently located"
Very nice older hotel, generally well kept up. Very knowledgeable and helpful concierge. Only 3 minutes from the Dupont Circle metro stop (Red line), with some nice restaurants in the neighborhood. The room was nicely appointed, although, it was difficult for the heating to keep the room adequately warm during the cold weather. "LOVELY HOTEL AND STAFF"
This is a wonderful hotel in a great area of DC - near Dupont Circle, shopping, restaurants, metro and more. Has the feel of a Washingtonian hotel - all you would expect. Great breakfast at The Capital Room downstairs. My only disappointment was that the mini-bar was totally empty. I'm sure it would have been filled if asked, but it was surprising given […] the attention to detail displayed in all other facets of our stay. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"A Reasonable Option in a District of Hotels"
The Fairfax is a newly renovated older hotel a block from the Dupont Circle Metro station. It's in a great area, which offers many good hotel choices. The Fairfax is competitive, but not outstanding. Standard rooms at the Fairfax are comfortable, modest sized and lacking in the electrical outlets a modern business traveler expects. Front-desk service […] is friendly but slow. In-hotel food and drink are adequate but no better. Not a bad choice, but, depending on availability, you may be able to find better options in the neighborhood. "Beautiful hotel near Dupont Circle"
This was my second stay at the Fairfax. It is a lovely hotel with nice staff. The rooms are clean and the hotel is very well kept. The valet parking is rather expensive ($40+) per day and the morning breakfast buffet is expensive as well. My one real surprise was, that as I left, I asked for a cup of coffee to go and a water bottle as I did not have […] time for breakfast. I was charged $2.00 for the coffee and charged for the water bottle as well. Most hotels that I frequent (5 star or not) offer a "to go" coffee service in the mornings. This was a little disheartening, but all in all a nice stay. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Fairfax at Embassy Row, Starwood Luxury Collection We’re very happy to hear that your recent stay at The Fairfax at Embassy Row was enjoyable. We certainly know that the cost of staying in Washington, DC can be a bit more costly than other areas across the country and we thank you for your understanding. It’s not something that we like to hear - that you left our hotel a bit disappointed, and we hope that for any future stays we can regain your trust in our hotel. Thank you for your comments.
"Perfect location, less-than-perfect "luxury" hotel"
This hotel was nice, but it was a little tired and we definitely didn't really feel like we were staying at a luxury hotel. Staff were pleasant, but they didn't do the little extras that make you fee like you're being spoiled (evening turn-down service, happy hour, etc.). We moved from our first room because the furniture upholstery and rugs were really […] dirty, and the maid had clearly not finished cleaning the room before we arrived (a towel was hanging on a hanger behind the bathroom door, one of the room robes was missing, etc.) So, we moved to another room and the carpet and furniture upholstery could definitely use some updating in that room, too. Plus the bathtub drain was very slow, so showers were done standing several inches of water. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
Response by The Fairfax at Embassy Row, Starwood Luxury Collection The central location of The Fairfax at Embassy Row allows our guests to fully enjoy the exciting attractions that make up the Dupont Circle area. We’re pleased that it added such value to your stay and that you enjoyed the service levels of our dedicated staff. We do apologize for any inconveniences you experienced and will have our Maintenance Engineers look into any problems with the tub in your room. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and please come and stay with us soon.

I had the misfortune to suffer severe back pain during my stay, which left me pretty much immobilised...so I spent two full days enjoying the hotel bed (very comfy)! Staff were very helpful when I called reception and asked for a doctor to be contacted. I'd particularly like to mention Quatina, who called the room a couple of times to check on my condition. "Wasn't what I hoped for"
Hotels.com had rearranged for us to stay in this hotel due to the fact our original hotel was under construction. I had high expectations after the pictures and reviews listed. We did have free valet which was nice because otherwise, it's $40 a night! So the bad... Upon entering our room, there was still urine in the toilet left. There was a nasty stain […] on the carpet. Two of the four nights, we got sheets with holes in them. There was never a "pillow top menu". Our tv had awful picture and had the "snow" on the screen. Customer service was good. We just had higher expectations and they were let down. Hotel wasn't worth the price in my opinion. The room was pretty small. The water for the shower takes forever to heat up! Oh and no free wifi. "Nice location, but.."
This is the kind of hotel where you pay for the privilege of paying more money. Parking is 40$ per day and Internet is 14$. But that Internet price is per device, so if you make the mistake of buying it using your phone, you'll have to get back on and buy internet service again with your laptop. Good location so I would suggest parking your car elsewhere […] and just using public transit and walking. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very affordable for NW DC"
I was very happy with my stay, the price was very affordable for a hotel of this quality. It is an old building that they revamped and it has a lot of character. Room was clean and bathroom was fine. "Classy, comfortable hotel with the best location."
I have nothing but praise for the way this lovely old hotel has held up and is staffed by caring people. My room wasn't huge, but it had a very comfortable king size bed and great linens and towels. I didn't use the TV or the wi-fi, so I can't comment on those. But I did have breakfast at the hotel twice and can comment on how good it was. I would definitely […] book this hotel again! "Very good hotel"
The Fairfax on Embassy Row was a great choice. I've stayed there before so was not surprised at the quality of the room and service. It's in a very good location, about 20 minutes walk from restaurants in Georgetown and in a relatively quiet neighborhood of interesting architecture, good coffee shops, and a block and one- half from the Metro station. […] The staff were friendly and welcoming. We parked using the valet service and found that also quick and convenient. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Can't understand why this is 4.5 stars."
This hotel is ridiculously overpriced and old. Additionally, Wifi cost $12.95 a day and parking is $40 a day. There are not many places to eat around it, so be ready to shell out another $60 if you want breakfast for a family of four (for very little food and terrible coffee). My daughter had medicine that needed to be refrigerated and they attempted […] to make no effort in helping us since there are no refrigerators in the room. We had to just keep it on ice all night, changing it out whenever it melted. The lighting in the bathrooms was terrible if you want to put make-up on, there's no fan in the bathroom so whenever someone takes a shower the mirrors are fogged up for a long time. Lastly, it took them 30 minutes to bring up another washcloth (because there were only 2 in the room). We'll never stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely Location but Undesirable Rooms"
The hotel lobby was elegant but small, and there was nowhere to sit while waiting for guests. Our room was so tiny that it could not accommodate a chair. We needed to read in bed. The room faced an alleyway, so there was little light. I assumed that we were provided this room because we got a good rate and prepaid. We eventually realized that there […] was only one other guest on our floor. I did not see another room, so I have no comparison. If there were larger and better rooms, the hotel was foolish in giving us this small room. I would not stay at this hotel in the future nor would I recommend it to a colleague. "no pool and free internet in room and self parkin"
I choose this hotel because its rating was 4-1/2 so i thought i must be good. but i was disappointment by that there is no pool in the hotel and there is no free internet in the room and also no self parking option only valet parking was available for $40 overnight parking. there is no micro wave and fridge in the room.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Stunning Hotel... Issue with Check In"
This hotel is a fantastic hotel in a very great location. When I checked in however, there was an issue with the reservation where the hotel had the wrong dates. My confirmation number was correct and had the correct date, however the hotel front desk staff told me that 'I' had to phone up and get hotels.com to contact the hotel to verify the booking, […] rather than them taking my confirmation number and doing it themselves. This issue was between the hotel and the booking site, therefore I would expect the hotel to figure this out on their own rather than make me hang around in their lobby/bar and make the call and then wait for them to have the discussion Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
