Quiet, comfortable, clean, and cheerful hotel in a great area. The eco-conciousness of the hotel advertised on the website is followed through. The only time it got loud was for a few minutes on Saturday night when people were leaving the restaurant downstairs. The staff was friendly, helpful, and professional.I wanted a little bit of Japan, and it […] was perfect. It was great to walk around Japan town and hear Japanese wafting around me. "Nice boutique hotel in the heart of Japantown"
Nice location right in the heart of Japantown with lots of Japanese boutique shops and restaurants around! Also only about one mile away from Union Square that I really enjoyed the walking. Room is clean and modern while the staff is friendly.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Great Area, Clean Room, ok building"
The location is great, close to Fillmore Ave. which is filled with boutiques and great restaurants, not to mention the epicenter of Japantown is right in front of the hotel, so lots of authentic Asian cuisine spots right there. Views are beautiful (i got a room on the 7th floor). The room was great, it had brand new carpet, super clean, the mural i […] got had a "boogie monster" which gave me nightmares the first night, lol, but all good. Staff was a mix of great and blah. The downfall of the building is the restaurant on the first place. Breakfast was TERRIBLE, eggs tasted awful, and oatmeal was uneatable. The younger lady was a sweetheart, but the older guy was unpleasant. Good thing there are tons of breakfast places nearby. Overall good value. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Nice, quiet and convenient neighborhood"
The hotel is easy to get to from downtown. There are several buses that stop within a block or two of the hotel. It is located two blocks away from shopping and restaurants on Fillmore street. The staff was very friendly and helpful and the room was nice and clean. I plan on staying here again the next time I'm in San Francisco.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"A gem of a hotel in Japantown."
Conveniently located off of Buchannan and Sutter you are 5 minutes from Union Square by bus. Buy a Muni pass which includes cable cars and you are set. This hotel is a bit like taking a trip on the yellow submarine and surfacing in a Pokemon video. Enjoy!Genuine Expedia guest review
Though the location of this hotel is excellent - just blocks from Fillmore, this hotel is disappointing. Room had an oder of mildew. Stains on carpet and the window seat. Gross. Bathroom dated - I found long black hairs in my bed covers - I am blond! Will not recommend or stay again. This is a strange place. Creepy.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable hotel in Japantown"
After we had checked in, the desk clerk offered to change our room to another which adjoined that of our last-minute traveling companion and her baby. It made the whole experience much more pleasant. The rooms and bathrooms were generously sized, clean and nicely decorated. The restaurant, Mum's, was cheerfully noisy, and provided good, but not brilliant, […] food. I would definitely go back. When attending the SFFS midnight shows and then the following day's early show, Hotel Tomo is the best choice! Also for shows at the Fillmore.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"great location between civic center and filmore"
close location to restaurants, music venues, Japantown, and more. Each room comes with Kuerig coffee maker, and various coffee samples, a nice touch. Staff was very helpful. Will stay at this hotel again!Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Quiet neighborhood and closeby to japantown and Fillmore. Didn't like how housekeeping opened the hotel door at 9am even before I checked out which is at 12 pm.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Fun area to stay in"
We really enjoyed staying in Japantown. We got to try many good restaurants and cafés in that area, which offer all sorts of authentic Asian foods. The hotel itself was different looking, and we liked the theme. However, don't expect anything overly luxurious. The room was clean, but pretty basic.Genuine Expedia guest review

"Really enjoyed it!"
We stayed the first night at a hotel at Fisherman's Wharf that was really substandard, and moved over into Hotel Tomo in Japantown for the second night. It was spacious, attractive, inviting, meticulously clean, and had all the amenities. The staff was very conscientious and helpful. There is a restaurant in the hotel that served delicious food. Overall, […] it was a great stay and we booked at the last minute for a good price. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great Easter Weekend Stay in San Fran"
Hotel is clean, great location, nearby to public transport, many events and farmers markets in area on weekends. Love the free wi-fi and keurig coffee maker in the room. Only wish is that they provided some water bottles, but nearby shops to buy these. Airport Shuttle is $16 best deal to get back to SFO!Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Small room, short bed"
This hotel reminded me of some I have stayed in in Europe. The room was very small and it seemed like everything was scaled down at least one size. Small sink. Very short bed -- my feet were almost hanging off the bed and I am 5'4". Don't know what a big guy would do here. The restaurant in the hotel had very poor service and food tasted like cafeteria […] quality. If you stay here, I recommend wandering across the street to the little Japanese mall -- there are several good casual neighborhood type restaurants with more authentic food. "Nice budget-ish hotel, rudely disturbed each morni"
Comfy bed, cute decor, decent location close enough to Fillmore...however, it was a very intrusive stay. The first morning I was woken up at 6am by the alarm clock obviously left set by the prior occupant, the second day housekeeping starting banging on the door repeatedly at 8:45am, and on my last day I had arranged for the shuttle to take me to the […] airport at 5am and at 4:56 I had someone from the front desk banging on my door shouting that if I didn't hurry up and get downstairs the driver would leave without me. "Quick visit to San Fran"
My stay was nice & the price was right! The room was clean & large, but the bathroom could use some updating & better quality towels! The restaurant on site was just so- so at best.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"worked out well..."
I would go back to the Tomo. And I would bring water. The vending machines ran or of watery on day 2 of 9. Never saw water in the machines again. Other than this inconvenience, great little centrally located spot.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Didn't stay long enough to say one way or the other about the staff, but it was a decent stay. Room was fairly cleaned and bedding was confortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Above and Beyond - Excellent service"
Our room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. It was an easy bus ride to Union Square and Fishermans Wharf. I was extremely impressed with the service at the front desk. When leaving town, I discovered that earphones and an I Pod had been left in the room. I called, the maids had found them and the front desk called me several times to arrange […] for UPS to ship them to me. I was so impressed with their honesty! They truly went Above and Beyond! We were initially given a room on the third floor, next to one of the staff offices. While the room was fine, it was very loud past 8AM as staff talked and laughed in the hallway. Not sure why the employees are so loud, it seemed unnecessary. To the hotel's credit, they let us switch rooms, but the new room then had heating/cooling issues. So two rooms, […] with two different problems. Had one desk clerk that was very helpful, another that was not. Overall, very uneven experience and I can't really recommend it. The "fitness" room was poor, and the decor, while interesting, did not really add all that much to me. Would stay elsewhere next time in SF. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Stay at the Tomo Hotel"
We enjoyed our stay at the Tomo as we always do. We were going to Yoshi's the night of our stay and it is within walking distance. "Cute and Modern"
Loved this hotel and would definitely stay there everytime I visited the city! The staff was awesome, private parking garage, modern and cute room, and not crackerboxes either! The only downside was we were on the second floor in a room right above their restaurant, so from about 5pm to 9pm it was a little loud but nGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Comfortable Hotel Japantown."
The staff at the front desk and cleaning crew were very friendly and helpful. There is a parking garage, it's small but they have one. Rooms are clean with big TV, small fridge, and Keurig single cup coffee brewer. Stayed one night. It was perfect.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good location, good service, but poor condition"
Super close to Japan town and the Fillmore, hotel staff were really nice, but the hotel was not worth what I paid. The shower did not have a choice in temperature and when we first arrived we were checked into a room that was not yet cleaned. Otherwise it was ok, great location.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"nice hotel close to good jazz clubs"
nice hotel, clean, staff was polite. i rated the staff ok only because they forgot to tell me that there is a button next to the entry light switch that needs to be turned on in order for your keurig machine and other electronic outlets on the dresser and desk to work. not a huge deal but i didn't get to make a coffee in the morning before leaving.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Ok for the price"
A little noisy. I am not too picky and decided to take my chances after reading the reviews. I ended up in the loud room on a lower floor with the crying girls. I think it would have been a better experience if I was on a higher floor. The room was right over the parking garage entrance and they came and picked up the laundry right outside of my window […] at 6 am and it was very noisy as they chucked the laundry bags into the back of the truck. I would have been extremely irritated by that if I didn't have to get up anyway. On the other hand, it was clean and I did feel safe. "<3 of Japan Town"
Hotel TOMO is very nice. The staff was friendly and helpful. My room was awesome with a decent view. The elevators had anime drawings posted on the wall, by people who have stayed there. "Nice hotel if you want to visit Japantown in SF"
This hotel is literary across the street from the Japan town in SF. Multiple Japanese restaurants are in a walking distance from the hotel. There is a Japanese mini-mall accross the street as well. "No parking and the staff was rude."
The employees were rude, the hallways are being remodeled and look like a psych ward with all the writing and scratches on the walls. And there is absolutely no parking. And heaven forbid you ask someone that works there a question because it's a huge deal apparently.Genuine Expedia guest review
The Tomo was fantastic! Greeted by friendly staff immediately as he checked me into one of the 6 best rooms on the property. It is going under renovations so I was a little taken back as I exited the elevator. But I could tell right away that they were just changing the wall paper and really wasn't making that much of a mess. But when I walked into […] my room I 2 greeted by warm sunlight. "A little time in Japantown"
The previous reviews looked good and I liked that previous guests said it was in a safe neighborhood. As a female traveling solo I felt completely safe while at the hotel and while exploring in the neighborhood. The desk staff was extremely helpful and told me where I could park for a less money (saw that on another review) which was across the street, […] the cross the plaza (a city block wide) then cross the street again. Also advised where I could dine on some great sushi. The room was clean, simply and just funky enough with the Anime decor. The bed pillows were great, the bed a little firm for my taste but all else was great and I'd stay there again. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
