"Cute, convenient, reasonable"
Tomo is like a very nice motel but better looking. We found it pleasant and clean, great to be in Japan town and close to shops and restaurants on Fillmore. Best thing: a truly excellent shower!Genuine Expedia guest review
I stayed at Hotel Tomo for 2 days. There are lots of activities in the area although the metro system needs some work. The hotel was pretty clean. The carpet was a little run down but it didn't look too filthy. The bathroom was nice and clean. The walls are very thin and you can hear whatever your neighbors are doing...which is sometimes awkward. The […] only improvements would be cosmetic (paint and carpet). Perfect location and friendly front desk staffs. You can find a lot asian food around even late in night. Close to union square (bus stop nearby). Parking needs additional fee.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Good Hotel in Japantown"
Decent hotel in Japantown, quiet area, we had a car which made it very easy to get around. Our room was on the same level as the restaurant, but we hardly heard anything, which is nice. Would happily stay again.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"We enjoy our stay very much"
Wiithout pretending to be a luxury hotel, it was good size room (like the one show in the picture) and has everything you need, like a radio with an ipod doc, small refrigerator and the keuring coffee maker. The coffee provided was very good (italian and french roast) We bought a small bottle of milk that we keep in the refrigerator and that coffee […] was better that any coffee you buy elsewhere. Location is OK, the area is nice and the bus stops right in the corner across the street. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great Home Base"
My fiancé and I chose the Hotel Tomo based on the reviews, and we had a great time. Though the carpet in the hallways is somewhat dated, the Anime theming is fun, the decor is engaging, and the hotel is very clean. Our room smelled of cigarettes when we walked in even though it was a non-smoking room, but that went away once we ran the AC for a bit. […] The front desk staff were very pleasant, helpful, and efficient. We were able to walk to City Hall, the shopping district, etc. with ease. [note: if you are not used to big city street atmosphere, do yourself a favor and call a cab. Japantown is clean and quiet, but closer to downtown the denizens are eclectic]. This is not a hotel in which to lounge around in the room all day -- this is a great "home base" from which to explore the city. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"HAPPY beyond expectations!"
The staff is amazing! So friendly and personable. It was my daughter's 10th birthday, and they surprised us with two Cako cupcakes to help her celebrate. The room is spacious and clean. Location is great. We LOVE this place and will most definitely return.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Reid and Jose were awesome with customer service an help direction. Thanks again! :-)Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I love the Japan Town and Pacific Heights area and that's why we chose to stay here. The hotel is okay, good for the price but nothing special, although the Japanese theme is fun. Our room was on the second floor right next to the restaurant, and smelled very strongly of food, but besides that was clean. Hotel parking is pricey, but we were able to […] find street parking nearby (not good for overnight, as its 2 hour from 8-6 and you have to get up early to move). "Next to Japan Town"
There are quite a bit good Japanese restaurants around in town and the hotel location made me feel safe while walking around at late night. The only thing you might want to be aware it is the parking at this hotel it is not cheap at all.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Near great food joints I Japan town."
Son, husband and I were looking for a hotel in a good location. Hotel tomo was conveniently located to many great restaurants. The room we stayed at was the executive room. It was big and with a balcony. Coffee was complimentary. My son loved the stay and so did we. We walked to the mall. Many shops nearby.Genuine Expedia guest review
Super fun hotel that has spatious, clean rooms. Great restaurant/bar on 1st floor, and friendly staff.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
Good sized rooms for 2 adults, 2 kids. A little noisy in the front rooms. Bathroom a little crowded. Across the street to japantown, easy access to restaurants. Quiet, much less hectic than union square or fishermans wharf.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
The place was a bit worn with the lack of hot water in the morning and second day the maid didn't restock the towels. With that said the place was for the most part clean and fairly central.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Eat someplace else."
We have had better experiences with this hotel. In this past stay we discovered the refrigerator was unplugged only have some food had spoiled. The coffee maker didn't work and nothing was done after we reported it. In the restaurant (Mum) I was served an omelet I didn't order which contained ingredients I can't eat, and they thought that deducting […] $1 from our bill was a fair response! We'll probably go back because it is close to UCSF, but we'll find someplace else to eat. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
"Great value in J Town"
Avoid Union Square, stay at Tomo in J Town and be very happy. Lots of restaurants nearby, and snooty Fillmore around the corner. Good price, great valueGenuine Hotels.com guest review

"Lovely hotel with a sour attitude"
Nice enough hotel. Front desk staff has a terrible attitude problem.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
I see Tomo is doing update fixes, Restaurant better than the last time.. Staff at front desk usually very friendly - though Tues. night guy seemed very tired. Convenient to most of SF -tho' I'm sorry for all the neighborhoods that were torn down for the big Japantown mall - I'd rather see cozy neighborhoods - but that is NOT Tomo's fault.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Good Value - very clean"
My wife and I stayed for one night whilst in San Francisco to see Cirque du Soleil Amaluna. The hotel was convenient enough to the venue (15 minutes to AT&T park) The room was very clean and the bed was comfortable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review

"Great location, beautiful views on upper floors"
We stayed here for 4 nights total and found it perfect for our needs (we're 30-something touring musicians). The garage couldn't accommodate our Sprinter van (10 foot clearance), but it was easy to find street parking and the meters are quite affordable from 9am-12pm. The in-house restaurant serves a nice breakfast, both American and Japanese style, […] and the front desk staff were always pleasant, quick and helpful with receiving packages, adding a room to the reservation, etc. Definitely would stay here again! My friend's friend referred this hotel to me, it's located in the japan town with multiple bus lines to almost everywhere you wanna go. "Hotel Tomo was Just OK"
The price was great..it actually dropped right before my trip so I was glad I hadn't booked earlier. Overall it was OK. It is an old hotel that has been refurbished. The kitchy anime themed art everywhere was funky and could be fun for kids. It didn't work as well for me in the actual room, where the plastic furniture just seemed kind of cheap and lame. […] Overall in good condition, however not perfect as there were cracks in the wood door, etc. I was on the first floor, which is above the lobby level, and where the restaurant is. That was weird, because down at the end of your hotel hallway is this bar and restaurant, so it just seemed odd and a little creepy security wise, because anyone can come in and go to the restaurant, and then they have total access to your hallway. I wouldn't recommend staying on the first floor. The neighborhood is fine, and it is close to Golden Gate park and USF. I walked all around at night, (single female) and didn't feel unsafe at all. "Quiet hotel in hectic city"
Clean and safe hotel in the quiet neighbourhood of Japan Town. Many interesting restaurants and Japanese stores in the vicinity. Muni buses on Sutter and Geary streets offer convenient transportation to the central Union square area. I small minus for the internet/WiFi solution that was not very stable.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Very nice but parking space"
overall very satisfied. This hotel is located in the middle of Japanese town. And just 5 min walking distance from supermarket which was good. But hard to find a parking spot. Their garage is always full. (street parking is free) I stayed in 2nd floor, and it was little loud because there is a bar right next to my room. But not bad.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Pleasant and authentic hotel in Japan town"
Extremely quiet rooms over courtyard. Beautifully decorated and comfortable but firm beds. Decent parking garage with easy access back to lobby. Also some free Street parking. Steps away from dozens of authentic Japanese shops and restaurants. Also close to a very good Asian grocery store, Asian shopping mall, and the famous Boulangere Bakery just blocks […] away. "Attention to Details"
When we checked in, the room had no bath towels so we had to call housekeeping. Next, we noticed that the supplies for the coffeemaker only had one regular coffee and no creamer. Finally, at 11PM, someone opened our door with a key. Luckily, I had the door latched. When the person realized the room was occupied, they immediately backed out. Shortly […] afterwards, I got a phone call from the front desk. Apparently, they didn't have me registered to this room, and therefore, they had assigned it to someone else. I had to give them my last name, so they could figure things out. About ten minutes later, I got another call from the front desk. Surprisingly, the employee's biggest concern seemed to be, not my inconvenience, but to ensure that the mistake had not been made on her shift since I checked in at 3PM. And of course, when I left the room the next morning to get a coffee, my key no longer worked because it had been changed when the "new" guest had been assigned the room the previous night. No apology at all at the front desk when I got my key re-programmed. Overall, the hotel is still a good value and very comfortable, but hopefully the owners read these reviews and will work with their employees on issues such as these. Good hotel for the price. The bed was comfortable to sleep in. You could crack the window open for fresh air. Breakfast not so interesting, lunch and dinner pretty good. Better take a cab or a bus if you are returning to the hotel after dark. 30 min. walk to Union square, 50 minutes walk to Muscone Center. Hotell staff very friendly and helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"My Favorite SF Hotel!"
I love Hotel Tomo! This was my second stay here (I've stayed in SF many times), and it was just as great as the first. First off, the hotel is located in a fantastic little neighborhood, close to shops, dining, and anything else you may need...all within short walking distance. Second, the hotel staff were very friendly and accommodating. We didn't […] have any issues come up, but everyone was very friendly and willing to help us find restaurants and anything else we were looking for. Finally, the price was very reasonable for the location and condition of the hotel. I will definitely stay here again and highly recommend to anyone who is visiting. "Nice hotel, close to Japan town"
This is a nice hotel, clean, and relatively affordable when you take into consideration San Francisco's sky high prices for everything. My only complain is that this hotel takes part in this charity organization, and they will slyly slip in a one dollar contribution without you knowing. I'm all for donating to good causes; I just didn't like not being […] informed. Read moreGenuine Expedia guest review
"Excellent SF Location, Vibrant but Quiet Hood"
We were pleasantly surprised by the quality of our experience, especially the location and the value proposition the Tomo offers. Just two blocks from Fillmore, where the restaurants, night spots and boutiques are charming and abundant. Sutter is not a major arterial, and with the staid Japantown mall across the street, it's very quiet.Genuine Expedia guest review
"Very pleasant stay"
Friendly, helpful staff. Clean room. Free in-room internet. Convenient to bus lines going downtown.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
very good deal for price. the condition of the hotel was moderately run down (outlets too old loose to sustain most electronics, chipped paint, dim/flickering lighting in the bathroom) but the room was very clean and bright with fun modern decor. would definitely come back.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Once more, with feeling...."
The housekeeping and front desk staff are courteous and attentive. I recently stayed there two months ago and decided to come back. The quality of service is consistently high. Had no problems with the room. Parking was a problem and paid for it, but the hotel lot was full and when I informed the front desk staff they immediately took the payment off […] my bill for that day. Had a minor problem with the card key not working and having to go back down to the front desk, but it's happened to me in a lot of other hotels. I like the neighborhood. It's quiet, reserved and even if you can't get parking in the lot, about 5 minutes away (walking) is another, large public lot that is open at least 18 hours a day. But the minor inconvenience is definitely worth the stay in such a comfortable, clean and quiet hotel. It is fast becoming my hotel of choice in SFO. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Downside - no breakfast. So the coffee maker and the refrigerator were nice but a microwave would be helpful.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
"Hotel Tomo funky basic hotel"
Hotel Tomo was a funky and somewhat quirky establishment located in Japan town. The entrance was challenging for bringing in luggage going down a flight of uneven steps from street level. We went up one floor to the first floor to find our room down the hall from the restaurant. Although we were concerned about noise from the restaurant, most of the […] noise came from outside our window which was next to the sidewalk outside. All in all a basic hotel probably closer to two stars than three but in a great location. Read moreGenuine Hotels.com guest review
Hotel Tomo feels comfortable and the staff is friendly. The Japanese cartoon theme makes for a fun and whimsical feel. The hotel is 20-30 minutes from SFO and is walking distance from a great many restaurants.Genuine Hotels.com guest review
